A Report on the IACC Delegation of Higher Education Institutes to US and Canada
May 22nd – June 3rd, 2011
Background & Composition of the Delegation
The governments of the United States and India have acknowledged the positive contribution of cooperation
in the field of education. Governments of both the countries are committed to collaborate in the area of
education through increased exchanges and enhancing the role of private players to carry it to new levels.
The Obama-Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative, which was announced last November, will provide USD
10 million in combined funding to increase university linkages and support junior faculty development
between US and Indian universities. The preferred areas of collaboration are distance education, vocational
training, research, skill development, setting up new universities, private-public-partnership and faculty
exchange.
With nearly half-a-billion Indians under the age of 25, the challenge of educating all of them could be realized
only through partnerships and the willingness of the educated Indians to give back to society.
With a view on promoting collaborations between Indian and US Universities, the Indo American Chamber of
Commerce, the only bilateral Chamber of Commerce in India, which is committed to development of Indo-US
business and trade relations under the aegis of the IACC Indo US Education Forum proposed a delegation of
Indian Higher Education Universities led by Dr.Sankaran Raghunathan, Co-Chair of the IACC Indo US
Education Forum and Dean of National Management School Chennai to the US and Canada from May 22nd

Testimonials from Delegates
Prashant P. Khambaswadkar, Chief Consultant, MET Bhujbal Knowledge City, Nasik
“At the outset let me express my deep and sincere gratitude's to you and Mr.R.K.Chopra for inviting me and
making this trip to New York a memorable one ! I started out on this trip like Columbus not knowing exactly
what value add this journey to the west will unfold. I must put on record that I gained immensely and
unexpectedly as this was my first experience with IACC. My special thanks to you for taking so much
effort without which visiting so many Universities, colleges and Academic centres would not have been
possible. Right from our visits to Rutgers University to FDU to SUNY upto Stevens College was a great
experience which has resulted in we at MET, Bhujbal Knowledge City, Nasik entering into MOU / tie up's with
atleast two Universities. Thanks to this visit, we have been able to establish a connect with good no of
Universities in the US which we will now leverage as an advantage to foster a partnership allowing faculty and
student exchange, joint research projects and benchmarking with these Universities to improve capabilities
back home. The Universities in the US have also gained through the Indian delegation as they have now been
directly connected to reputed Indian Corporates in one go !
In conclusion, I must thank IACC for organising this delegation ( the SUITE 2011 PLUS nafsa) which was very
informative and was a great networking opportunity. Many thanks to Mr. S.K.Mitra too for encouraging and
enabling every delegate to gain maximum out of the conference. Sapna, your hardwork, great coordination
and communication skills as well as your very positive attitude made this trip more than successful. I urge IACC
to continue the good work and organise yet another trip next year to the US combining SUITE 2012 with visits
to various Universities on the west coast and participation in NAFSA.
I look forward to hearing from you on next year's program with dates and all..”
