ARMSTRONG INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP GRANT

The Armstrong International Internship Grant is named after the Broward College’s sixth president J. David Armstrong, Jr.. After retiring from Broward College, Mr. Armstrong established an innovation fund to support students pursuing academic and professional development programs.

The Armstrong International Internship Grant will support students participating in one-month international virtual internships hosted by CRCC Asia. Selected students will perform a project-based virtual internship with a company in China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, India, or the United Kingdom in one of CRCC Asia’s 18 Career Fields. The virtual internship will begin on July 6 and will run for 4 weeks. Students will work between 20 – 30 hours per week (30 hours if college credit is desired). – Learn more about CRCC Asia and their Virtual Internships here!

The grant will award up to $1,000 to cover program costs. Selected students are responsible for paying administrative fees ($300) and optional tuition for 3 hours of college credit ($300).

ELIGIBILITY

To be considered for this grant, at the time of application a student must:

• Be an AA, AS, AAS, BS, BAS, or BSN degree-seeking student at Broward College

• Show proof of a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher

• Have completed at least six (6) credit hours in 1000 and/or 2000 level courses

• Have successfully completed ENC 1101 with a minimum final course grade of C or better

• Not be on academic or disciplinary probation

• Not have been a former recipient of the Armstrong International Internship Grant. Previous applicantswho did not receive the grant, however, ARE eligible to reapply for full consideration.

1. Student selection criteria are based on individual student merit and their potential for returning the greatestbenefit to BC upon completion of the internship. The candidates will be evaluated based on the followingcriteria:

a. Statement of motivationb. Grade point average (GPA)c. Resume

2. Students who are selected and accept the Armstrong International Internship Grant are required to participate inone of the following activities during the subsequent semester, whether or not they are enrolled at the college:

a. Deliver a presentation to a student organization, club, or class reflecting on their personal and academicgrowth as a result of this opportunity.

b. Write an article for The Observer reflecting on their personal and academic growth as a resultof this experience.

c. Attend at least one Study Abroad Information Session event to speak to other students aboutthe benefits of this experience.

3. Students who are funded by the Armstrong International Internship Grant are required to complete a one-month, 20 or 30-hours per week virtual internship in the career field of their choice; complete CRCC’S Career Bridge global internship curriculum; and attend all virtual events related to the internship.

4. The Armstrong International Internship Grant does not cover administrative fees ($300) or optional academic fees for 3 credit hours ($300).

5. College credits earned through this internship will not be awarded by Broward College. They will be awarded by another regionally accredited university.

6. The Armstrong International Internship Grant is not part of a Federal financial aid package. It is the student’s sole responsibility to consult with the Financial Aid Office or other agencies if the Armstrong International Internship Grant conflicts or affects current or future aid.

7. No student may receive the Armstrong International Internship Grant more than one time.

APPLICATION MATERIALS

Students must submit a complete application packet to the Greene International Education Institute via email by May 31, 2020. A complete packet will include the following:

1. A signed Armstrong International Internship Grant application

2. An unofficial copy of your Broward College transcript

3. Most updated copy of your resume

4. A 500 – 700 word (minimum-maximum) statement of motivation outlining your academic and personal background, motivation behind completing an international internship, professional and personal goals, and workplace skill you will bring to the internship/will like to develop during the internship.

APPLICATION DEADLINE AND WHERE TO SUBMIT

Completed applications for the Armstrong International Internship Grant should be submitted via email to [email protected] by Sunday, May 31, 2020
