On behalf of everyone at Schlumberger, I am pleased to welcome you on board. I hope you will soon feel you are part of the team. All regulatory approvals have now been received and we can freely share information and work together.

This is an exciting time for our organization as we combine Saxon’s rig engineering and management capabilities with Schlumberger’s existing expertise from both the Drilling Group and Integrated Project Management (IPM). Our technology integration approach is focused on evolving the engineering of the drilling system from a simple combination of discrete services to optimal systems. This will be accomplished by customizing design and modeling capabilities to better address our customers’ needs. Saxon’s expertise is a key enabler to further advancing our drilling efficiency, leading to superior performance in challenging land-based operating environments.

Saxon will remain a standalone business reporting to me, alongside IPM and the geographies. Any integration efforts and associated timelines will be communicated in the weeks and months to come by the integration team led by Affonso Ferreira.

As a reminder, it is business as usual. The safety of our people and the quality of service we deliver to our customers must continue to be our priorities. We recognize, appreciate and wish to protect your valued customer relationships and brand.

This Quick Guide to Schlumberger has been put together to help you and your family better understand your new organization. I look forward to meeting many of you in the near future and making the most of the opportunities we can create together for ourselves and our customers.

Our ValuesAt Schlumberger, we have three core values that guide everything we do.

Our people thrive on the challenge to excel in any environment. Their dedication to safety and customer service worldwide is our greatest strength.

Our commitment to technology and quality is the basis of our competitive advantage.

Our determination to produce superior profits is the cornerstone of our future independence of action and growth.

The roots of our corporate values can be traced back to the Schlumberger family values, which steadfastly insisted on the importance of learning and education, and which later took form in the belief that one must always keep a close eye on the customer’s needs and the company’s greater purpose in the world. Conrad and Marcel Schlumberger believed in the idea of driving their company’s future success by reinvesting profits in the business, particularly in research and development.

“I agree to disburse to my sons, Conrad and Marcel, the funds necessary for research study in view of determining the nature of the subsurface…the scientific interest in research must take precedence over financial interests.” Paul Schlumberger, 1919Conrad Schlumberger

Our HistoryFounded in 1926 by two brothers, Conrad and Marcel Schlumberger from Alsace, France, Schlumberger is best known for the invention of wireline logging—a groundbreaking technique used to measure the presence of hydrocarbons in oil and gas wells. Since then, the company has developed its reach, both technically and geographically, such that today it offers the most complete range of oilfield services available from any single company—from seismic exploration to mature field rejuvenation.

Your skills and expertise will ensure that Schlumberger continues to lead the oilfield services industry by anticipating our customers’ changing needs.

The role of the Groups and Segments is to deliver superior technology and service quality to our customers, making the most of our strong quality management systems and the highly competent people within our GeoMarkets*.

How We WorkOur Identity

The Schlumberger Blue Print – Our Identity defines us as a company and outlines Our Purpose, Ambitions, Values and Mindset. The document is designed to assist employees in understanding and applying these elements in order for Schlumberger to continue its success in today’s increasingly complex and competitive oil and gas industry.

The principal element of The Blue Print, known as Our Mindset, comprises four types of behavior—Commitment, Integrity, Teamwork and Drive. All Schlumberger employees are accountable for adopting this behavior in terms of our attitude, words and actions as we interact with each other and with our external stakeholders. Our future success depends on it!

“At Schlumberger we are each committed to treat each other in a professional way, based on mutual respect, trust, and individual dignity.”

SafetyThe safety of our people is paramount in Schlumberger and a core part of our culture. In addition to policies and standards related to safe operations, we focus on individual well-being and on equipping our employees with the necessary training to prevent accidents both within and outside the workplace. In particular, many accidents and fatalities that occur are driving-related.

Both Schlumerger and Saxon have a strong reporting culture for Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environment (QHSE) information using the Web-based application QUEST.

“It is a great feeling to come back from a job thinking, ‘I have done it.’ You get a unique sense of achievement that can become addictive.”

Our Code of ConductThe Schlumberger Blue Print in Action—Our Code of Conduct is a practical guide to the behavior required of all Schlumberger employees as we go about our daily lives. It applies to all Schlumberger directors, officers, and employees of the company. It is designed to help each employee handle business situations professionally and fairly. It explains how our actions reflect on the company and how the company is therefore the sum of our actions. The Blue Print in Action reinforces the Blue Print – Our Identity.

Getting and Staying ConnectedIn Q3/Q4 2014, you will be given access to vast information resources. The availability of these resources will be communicated as part of the integration.

The Hub Once you are connected to the Schlumberger intranet (The Hub), you will be able to access corporate news, Discounted Stock Purchase Plan (DSPP) and many other resources.

Corporate DirectoryThe Schlumberger LDAP system will allow you to search the contact information of all Schlumberger employees.

Career Networking Profile (CNP)Your CNP is a way to introduce yourself to others—a sort of “short story” describing your career to date, a personal statement, areas of expertise, and any other skills or training you may have. Your CNP is created through Eureka or the Career Center and is accessible to other employees. Create a CNP at www.eureka.slb.com/CNP.cfm.

Instant MessagingSchlumberger uses an instant messaging tool called Microsoft Lync, which allows you to see when your colleagues are online, away or in a meeting. You will be added to this system and will be able to lookup all employees. This tool facilitates contact with colleagues around the world and helps you to nurture your network.

IT SecurityEmployees with computers will be asked to complete an online IT security training and to undergo a web-based test. We also have a classification system for information and customer data as well as using Rights Management Services from Microsoft to protect permissions to Office documents when necessary.

Me and My CareerWe value the unique perspective, knowledge and experience you have built up through your career. We also realize that joining a new organization is never simple, especially for those in established careers.

Our Personnel PhilosophyWe believe that the creativity, energy and expertise of our people provide the foundation for our success. We aim to attract, develop, motivate and retain our people based on the following principles.

■ Promote diversity of nationality, culture, gender and thought.

■ Train and develop continuously.

■ Promote based on performance and potential.

■ Offer borderless career opportunities (either geographically, functionally or to a new business line).

■ Offer a competitive compensation and benefits package.

■ Respect and care for individuals and their families.

Schlumberger gives its employees the option to select whether they are open to international assignments or if they would prefer to remain in their home countries. Schlumberger is committed to the development of its people, both in their home countries and abroad. Geographic mobility is just one way that employees can choose to develop their expertise within Schlumberger.

“Key to a successful integration is respecting the cultural differences of our businesses and managing the pace of change. Our focus continues to be the safety of our employees and the quality of service to our customers. We must apply honesty and integrity in all that we do.” Left: Affonso Ferreira, Integration Manager, Saxon.

What You Need to Know

Performance ManagementManagement by Objectives, or MBO, is central to the company’s performance. At the heart of this performance management system is the Appraisal process, the main objective-setting and performance-appraisal tool. Objective setting occurs at the beginning of each calendar year with quarterly reviews taking place between managers and employees. The annual appraisal session, to assess whether objectives for the previous year have been achieved, occurs at the start of the year. This will be introduced to Saxon employees beginning January 2015.

Promotions Promotions are based on performance.

Career CenterThe Career Center is a way for each employee to participate in the management of his/her career plan in the company. It allows an employee to update his/her job preferences and personal considerations. In addition, information is available on the full range of Schlumberger jobs and lists the people who currently hold the jobs so that the potential paths for pursuing career goals are visible.

Dual CareersSchlumberger recognizes dual-career couples wherein a Schlumberger employee has a spouse or partner who is pursuing a professional career inside or outside of Schlumberger. Any employee may enter himself or herself into the Career Center as being part of a dual-career couple. The company’s knowledge that you are part of a dual-career couple facilitates the dialogue necessary between you, your manager and Personnel so as to enable the best possible career moves—particularly as related to mobility.

Training and DevelopmentAt the time of your annual appraisal it is important to discuss your training and development needs with your manager. Available Schlumberger courses can be seen in iLearn, our online training and competency management tool. Whether for specific or generic training, this is the place to find the training courses you’ll need to develop in your career. (Access to iLearn will be scheduled later on and will be done in phases).
