Dear Fellow Members,

Some of you may know that the fiscal year for the Chamber begins in October, and thisdrives much of our planning, thinking and assessment. We welcome new Board Members, recognize those completing their terms or replacing a member, thank those continuing toserve, and set our sights on the 2018-2019 year.

Following the slate proposed by the Nominating Committee, I am happy to announce, that a separate article in this newsletter contains the names of those dedicated members that will lead the Chamber. The Board Membership is comprised of individuals that havebeen involved in the Chamber for many years; and in total the Board represents a diversity of businesses: from small entrepreneurs, to veteran financial executives, to the educationalarena, healthcare groups and communications.

I encourage each member to introduce themselves to our Board Members because they are eager and want feedback on the direction and goals for the Chamber that will make it even stronger. An excellent opportunity will be at our September 13, 7:00 a.m. AnnualMembership meeting which is our September Breakfast Connection at the Sheraton Houston Brookhollow Hotel.

Speaking of, it is imperative that we have a strong member presence at our Annual Meeting, not only to fulfill our by-laws, but to ensure that you the member are informed about the activity and standing of the Chamber. Please take ownership in this organization and attend. If I may end with a pertinent quote, here is what Louisa May Alcott said about teamwork:“It takes two flints to make a fire.” Let’s all work together to make it our Chamber’s bonfire for success.

Famil iar Faces Carole Pickel

This issue we recognize a woman with azest for the Chamber and for serving herclients with uncompromising expertise

and care. Ambassador Carole Pickel was born inthe Heights, spent time in Rio de Janeiro, Braziland made her way back to Houston, actually onher birthday! Carole attended Spring Woods andNorthbrook high schools and earned a degree inOperations Research and Computer Science fromTexas Women’s University and the University of Dallas.Applying her college education, she took on IT positions

beginning with Vernon Savings & Loan where she was on theIT staff. For subsequent years, she worked in IT positions forseveral companies including Intel, Intelligroup, Westlake Group of Companies, and others. After 24 year in IT, and beingimpacted as a Dotcom casualty on the West Coast, she cameback to Texas and began providing valuable financial advice forclients and business owners. A career she continues to embracestoday as a Financial Representative for OneHouston Financial.

Building client confidence is a testimonial to Carole’s ability to help clients by increasing theirincome in retirement on average 30-50%, or byhelping business owners by saving IRS taxes backthat can go into retirement accounts. Carole joinedthe Chamber in 2017 and did so because “I lovehelping folks connect for business and pleasure.”This attribute is apparent as she is involved in numerous organizations including: Women in Insurance & Financial Services (WIFS) andWomen in Technology (WITI).

Traveling to places, especially off the beaten path appeals toCarole as well as cooking for friends and being recognized as an oenophilist, or in other words, a person who enjoys wines, usually a connoisseur. And, when it comes to distinction, Carolproudly points out that “I am a shell back, crossed the line in1967, something no Pollywog would understand.” What line you ask? Well, none other than the Equator line and accompanyingceremony. Thank you Carole for being an Ambassador, and foryour continuous support of the Chamber and its members.
