. . . From the Pastor. . . From the Pastor. . . From the Pastor. . . From the Pastor
Well, here we are at the beginning of another brand-new year. And so, the very first thing that Una and I want to do is to wish you and your family a very happy 2017. May this new year be the kind of year that all of us have been hoping and dreaming and praying for. May it also be the kind of year that is not just the beginning of another new presidency here in the United States, but indeed the kind of year that will begin to bring peace and goodwill to all of
God’s creation throughout the world.
In addition, I would like to take this opportunity to invite who-ever can join us on January 7th for our annual leadership planning party in Hunter Hall. This is an opportunity for all of us to come together to plan and prepare for what we would like to see happen-ing in our church for this coming year. Let us also remember that we each bring our own unique gifts and graces that can help us all grow and mature as we strive to become the life giving and life renewing disciples that God in Christ has called and created us to
be.
Let me also say that I would like to encourage all of us, espe-cially each birth month groups, Jan, Feb, March etc. to take on a new, New Year’s challenge to pray for and actively invite someone, especially a child, a youth, a young family, to become a part of our Bright Star church family. Please remember that people usually do not always just show up at a place they do not know anyone. They typically come when they are invited and when they feel welcomed by the people they meet and greet there. So, be the one that they are
connected to.
And while we are talking about outreach, Una and I will be planning a Mission Journey to South Africa in 2018. Originally, I planned to take our youth to a youth conference that is scheduled for July of 2018, but that time of the year is a little too cold. Also, I’ve been told that the conference is for the global planning youth team. So, mark your calendars for November of 2018 and we will
share more details later.
Una and I would also like to invite you to join us on Saturday January 21 at 6pm for a dancing and dessert party in Hunter Hall in
honor of our 40th wedding anniversary.
Last, but certainly not least, Una and I would like to thank all of you for who you are and for the different ways that you encour-age and support and bless our lives. We thoroughly enjoy visiting with you, sharing some meals together, and we deeply appreciate the cards, the gifts, the baked goods, and the various ways that you
make us feel part of this special place of grace.
Thank you and may God continue bless you. Happy New
Year!

DISTRICT NEWS
SAT, JANUARY 28 - 9:00 am-11:30 am
The Evangelism Ministry Team is offering a church-wide workshop entitled "Evangelism - Hospitality in the Church." The workshop is conducted through our North Georgia UMC Conference and is de-scribed this way: "This workshop will explore the various opportu-nities to share the faith through the gift of hospitality in the church and as a church. We will look at welcoming, speaking and listening, serving, comforting and healing, receiving, releasing, and celebrating."
This is one of five evangelism workshops sponsored by the Confer-ence in their Worship section of resources. There will be no fee or materials to purchase for the workshop, but you might enjoy reading a book by the presenter, Delia Halverson, "The Gift of Hospitality in Church, in the Home, in All of Life", (available on line at ama-zon.com).
Bright Star is a friendly, welcoming church, and we look forward to learning how we can employ those gifts and graces even more in ministry to each other and our community. All are welcome. Please contact Laura Frank for more information, 770-316-7201.

Give a Gift for Life Will you honor a mother, father or other special person in your life and at the same time give the gift of life to unborn children by helping to support the Free Ultrasound Program at PRC Medical?
PRC statistics indicate that when a woman can actually see her baby through a sonogram (ultrasound picture), over 90% of the time she will choose to give it life!
Your coins, bills, or checks help cover the cost of operating our free Ultrasound Program ($163 each). PRC Medical will send the person you honor a special card telling them of your gift in his or her honor. You may also give in memory of a special person in
your life.
