Yesterday I searched for a listing in our MLS database while having a conversation over coffee at Starbucks. I used Paragon 5 on my iPad.

Sometimes, if I am out over a weekend and want to check one of our various data feeds, I will search using Realtor.com’s great application for my iPad, or Trulia’s very robust mobile app, or the mobile app offered to consumers via our NNRMLS.com consumer portal via my iPhone. If I need depth of information I can search via our reInsight Mobile MLS site. Occasionally, I even search using one of our member mobile IDX sites.

My point is, now late in 2011, we, as consumers, have grown accustomed to having several options. Want to store your info in the cloud? Great! Use Apple’s iCloud, Evernote, or Dropbox, just to name a few. Want a digital signature system? You can use DocuSign, DigitalInk, iAnnotate, etc, etc. This is the wave of technology in the 21st century. All consumers have choices –many choices – and we/they choose those tools that they feel most comfortable interacting with – the ones that best meet their needs.

I see the future of MLS technology as a way to offer members their choice of front end systems with which to interact with their MLS data. This is a future vision, I grant you - right now, our Members must input, search, set showing appointments, etc. through the Paragon 5 interface. But what if you had a choice? What if we could standardize the data to the point that it could interface via an API with whatever front-end you like best? Well, we are beginning to take our first steps toward that vision.

In the coming months, and hopefully before year’s end, NNRMLS will be offering tools that overlay MLS data with an abundance of public records, lifestyle, and historical information as well as valuation and CMA report options. Members will be able to research properties via more than one interface accessing the full data set that lies within Paragon. These interfaces will be secure, proprietary to our Members and real time. You will still access Paragon 5 for listing input and maintenance, but for searching and statistical analysis, these tools will offer you a choice through which to interact with your data. Two of these initiatives are the REALTOR® Property Resource and Move’s product called Find.

Paragon 5 will remain the core service for MLS data, but we are stepping toward a vision of the future that allows members many choices and valuable tools. Members, after all, are consumers. You are our customers and we are working hard to meet your needs and add to your success.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me – [email protected]

Tips for Optimized P5 Functionality

With the introduction of Paragon 5, there is now a wide array of choices you can make as far as what browser you can use, so here are some quick tips to get the optimal performance you need.

A good rule of thumb is to use the most recent version of the browser included with your operating system. For XP, that means Internet Explorer 8. For Vista and Windows 7, that’s Internet Explorer 9. For Macs, that will be the latest version of Safari.

If you are running Windows XP and want to look for a balance of speed with good print quality, try Firefox as an alternative to Internet Explorer 8. Firefox works on all operating systems and is a good backup or replacement if you do not like or have problems with the standard browser that comes with your computer.

• Want Speed?Use Windows 7 & Firefox

• Need Optimal Print Output?Use Windows 7 & Internet Explorer 9

• Working on XP?Upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox

• Working from your Mac?Use OSX & Safari

• Working from a Tablet? Most will blaze through the site, but currently unable to print or input a listing

• Working on an iPad?Two finger scrolls will allow you to view everything, but Safari is not always able to print via the iPad

This error is caused when Paragon is incorrectly logged out, whether that be due to a window crash, moving to another page, or even hitting the back button in a browser as opposed to the green back button in Paragon 5.

The quick fix when getting this error upon login is to close ALL of your browser windows and then return to the sign-on screen and sign in. If this pops up again, check to see if you are allowing cookies from safemls.net, paragonrels.com, and fnismls.com.

Check every month for Tech Tips from Brad!

Our most common tech call is when the caller cannot log in to Paragon and receives an error stating “Please contact your MLS Help Desk for assistance.” Always feel free to give us a call, but most times this is because the shortcut they used was still set to the Paragon 4 address which has been completely disabled by LPS. The correct address for Paragon 5 is http://nnrmls.paragonrels.com.

There are a number of ways to access Paragon 5 including via the NNRMLS Member website (members.nnrmls.com) or via the consumer site (nnrmls.com – “REALTOR Tools” tab). If you prefer a shortcut on your Desktop, here are instructions:

Step 1: Right-click an open area on the desktop, point to New, and then click Shortcut.

Step 2: Type in http://nnrmls.paragonrels.com and then click Next.

Step 3: Type a name for the shortcut, like “Paragon 5 Login.” If a Finish button appears at the bottom of the dialog box, click it. If a Next button appears at the bottom of the dialog box, click it, click the icon you want to use for the shortcut, and then click Finish.

Battery Life of Lockboxes

you can exchange

your lockbox if the battery life is down

to 15%

How often do you pay attention to the percentage of battery life in your lockboxes? Are you aware that you can exchange your lockbox if the battery life is down to 15%?

The amount of battery life in your lockbox is shown on your lockbox key screen each time you release the shackle. Agents should take in their lockboxes to their Association, to be exchanged at no cost, when the battery life is down to 15%. Checking your battery life will prevent the battery from draining completely thereby causing you to cut the shackle and bring the box in to be replaced.

If you have any questions about exchanging your lockboxes, please call your local Board office.

We are happy to let you know that Apple has approved Supra’s updated eKEY version (1.2.2) application and it is available on the App Store. Members who use eKEY for iPhone will receive a notification on their phone, telling them that the new version is available. It is important that all eKEY for iPhone users upgrade to the latest eKEY version (1.2.2).

Now that the new eKEY application is available, Members should experience no issues with updating their iPhone Operating System software (iOS5), which has been released by Apple. After updating to eKey version 1.2.2, simply connect your device to your Mac or PC and follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes to update to iOS5.

Time Frame For Entering New Listings andChanging Listings

Waiver of SRPD

• What happens if my seller wants me to hold off on entering the listing into MLS? If your seller does not want the listing entered into MLS for more than 48 hours, complete the “Waiver of MLS Benefits” and forward the signed form to NNRMLS.

• What if there is more than one seller and I can’t get all of the signatures right away? The 48 hours does not start counting until you have received all of the signatures. Make sure that each seller dates the listing at the time of the signing.

• I have to mail the listing package to my client, what then? Keep the envelope that you received the signed documents in. If they are returned via fax keep a copy of the confirmation from the fax machine.

• What happens if I just don’t get the listing into MLS within the 48 hours? The penalty for not entering the listing within 48 hours is a Level 4 citation. The fine for this citation is $250 plus $100 for each day that it is late.

You have 48 hours to enter a new listing into the MLS, and 48 hours to make a change to a listing as well. This time frame is excluding weekends and holidays (2 business days) upon obtaining the seller’s signature.

If you have any questions regarding this policy or any NNRMLS policies please visit, email or call Linda. She can be reached by visiting 5650 Riggins Court, Suite 100, [email protected] or 775-823-8838. Her door is always open.

As of October 1 the “Seller’s Real Property Disclosure” or “SRPD” can no longer be waived. It is a required form to be completed by the seller regardless of who the seller may be. NVAR is currently communicating with Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae and banks to help them understand that it is a state requirement to complete the form. NNRMLS will be doing a search of all active listings to isolate listings with “SRPD Will Be Waived”, then sending an email to the agent/broker letting them know of the new requirement and to remove the verbiage from MLS remarks.

Below is the link to the new SRPD form from the Real Estate Division: http://www.red.state.nv.us/forms/547.pdf

To read the “One Minute Analysis” provided by NVAR, please go to http://www.nvar.org/home.aspx for the abbreviated synopsis of SB 314.

Frequently Asked Accounting QuestionsWhether you have been with the MLS for a long time or are a new Member, there are certain questions that are asked frequently. Hopefully this will help clear up some of these questions:

Can I pay my balance automatically through MLS?Yes, never forget to pay your monthly NNRMLS bill again! For more information, see the article below with details on how to get set up – it’s so easy!

How can I pay online? This is a great way to pay your monthly fees! On this site you can pay your bill, obtain payment history for your tax accounting or register for classes. To learn more go to members.nnrmls.com and then click “Online Payment” and login with your member number and password. Not sure of your password? Call our office and we will help you get logged in.

I paid through my bank account and the money was taken out, but not credited to my MLS Account – why?You must have our proper mailing address! If you are continuing to use the closed PO Box, your check will probably not arrive for more than a week, and possibly be returned to the bank.

I have never been late before - why do I have to pay the $50 reactivation fee?It is the policy of NNRMLS that if you do not pay your past due amount by the 45th day (15th of the following month) there is a $50 reactivation fee that must be paid before you are reactivated. Example: Fees billed for the month of January are due on the 15th of January, but not considered late until February 15th. If you feel that there were unavoidable circumstances for being late, you can write a letter to request a fee waiver (faxed or emailed to the NNRMLS office). If the Administrative Review Panel votes in your favor, the fee will be credited back to your account. But until that time, the fee must be paid in order to reactivate your account.

Agent/Apple Networking Event Planned

NNRMLS has a second Networking Event planned for Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at the Summit Sierra Apple store. Members are invited to stop by and learn how Apple products interface with various real estate related applications, including Paragon 5 and reInsight mobile.

In June, NNRMLS and the Apple Store hosted the first Member event which was very successful! In fact, it was so successful that RE Technology took note and published a nationally distributed article about the event. Marty Reed, VP of Product Solutions at LPS said “It doesn’t surprise me that NNRMLS came up with the Apple store launch idea. They do a fantastic job; they execute everything so well as an MLS. In fact, this Apple store event is something we wish we’d thought of ourselves. Nothing is more powerful than putting a new feature in the hands of an agent and showing them how it can make a positive change in the way they do business.” Click here to read the entire article.

Hope to see you there!

When you watch a UNR football, basketball or baseball game during the 2011-2012 season, you are likely to see exciting advertising for our new Consumer website, NNRMLS.com. You will see a NNRMLS.com TV commercial, hear a NNRMLS.com radio spot, see our NNRMLS.com logo flash on the Mackay Stadium Videoboard during games and even see a banner at Mackay Stadium near the busy concession stand! We are supporting our local college football team as a Home Team sponsor, and in return, receiving great local advertising for our Members!

In addition to our UNR Home Team advertising, we are also targeting commuters driving north through Washoe City on Hwy. 395 with a billboard, one on busy Kietzke Lane in Reno and also Glendale Avenue in Sparks. Billboard ads catch the attention of prospective consumers like no other type of advertising can – they create a brand awareness and strong name recognition among passers-by reaching thousands of people each day.

More local advertising includes field and stadium signs and banners at area high schools. Spectators at games will see our advertising at Reed High School, Reno High School, McQueen High School and North Valleys High School.

We want NNRMLS.com to be known as the SOURCE for local Real Estate! Unlike Trulia, Zillow and other 3rd party websites, all leads from NNMRLS.com go back to our Members!

...we are proud to

promote our Members!
