Maquoketa Valley moved their re-cord up to 2-0 last Friday when they took on the Monticello Panthers on the Panther’s home feld.

Starting off scoring for the Wild-cats and leading with 220 rushing yards for the game was Ryan Parmely scoring the frst touchdown of the game. Steve Huber made the extra point with the feld goal which brought the Wildcats up to seven points with just over eight minutes left in the quarter.

Bringing the heat in the second quarter, the Wildcats scored 22 points with three touchdowns from Parmely, two feld goals right on target from Huber, followed by a two point conversion also by Huber.

The Wildcats kept the game mov-ing along in the third quarter, with one touchdown from Ryan Parmely with a pass from Jeremy Fischer, and one rushing touchdown from Steve Huber.

A key play in the game was the screen pass, early third quarter, that Par-mely broke for a long TD that gave MV a three-score lead. “That really swung the momentum in our favor and gave us a lot of confdence,” stated Coach Wilson.

What role do you play in the musical? Dorothy Gale

How are you like/not like your character? I’m clearly like my character because we both seem to have a hard time staying out of trouble. :)

What’s your favorite part of the show? It’s defnitely early in the show, but I can tell I’ll love the munchkin scene because Kristin Brehm was born to play a sassy munchkin.

What would surprise people about the show? Now if I told you that, it wouldn’t be a surprise, would it?

What’s your favorite part of rehearsal? I love getting to be a different person and interacting with others. I also really enjoy watching the new people make their own characters. I’m very proud of everyone this year.

Who is your drama role model? Erin Horst Students challenged to prepare

What do you enjoy most about volleyball? I enjoy the competi-tiveness, and the good feeling after winning tough matches.

What’s your favorite drill in practice? Baseball

What’s your least favorite drill in prac-tice? Serve and Chase

What’s your goal for this season? My individual goal is to improve on my back row skills, and increase on how many aces and digs I get each game. My team goal is to go to state, and win three matches in a row with zero miss-serves.

What has made this year unique for you? We are not only a team, but a family. We all stick up for one another. We help lift each other up, and it gives us conf-dence to not make the same mistake again.

What’s your favorite memory from be-ing involved in this volleyball? There are so many, but I love hanging with the back row girls and attempting to twerk on the sidelines in practice.

Why did you decide to do it? I decided to do it because I love helping people and working with others.

What class do you enjoy most? Anatomy and pre-calc

Once you become engaged in a sport for a pe-riod of time with the same group of people, I believe they become a part of your family. Well to me they are anyways.

I was so excited to start this sea-son mainly because I knew it was going to be a great year, even if that means not win-ning every game. I thought this because the girls who are on the team’s this year love the sport. They aren’t here just to do some-thing before another activity or they feel like they are forced to be here. I love the passion and work ethic that we all share.

This is also common in our coach-es, Hannah Grow and Melissa Dutra. Our seniors show great leadership. It’s some-thing about the activities you love when you decide to go out for another year when it’s not always about playing the sport but being around the positive minds.

Angie’s Angle by Angie Wilson

The movie “She’s the Man” is a big part of my life. Well in the fact that when doubt-ing what movie I should watch on a sunday night, it’s always there for me. If anyone has seen it you might recognize this quote:

“Be not afraid of Greatness, Some are born Great,

Some achieve greatness, and some have greatness

thrust upon them”

Shakespeare was expressing that everyone is great! Everyone has his or her own way of getting there. Some get that greatness handed to them. Others work hard to receive greatness. But for some of us have the heart and the desire not matter what the goal is to be great. Don’t be afraid of succeeding. Don’t be afraid of not suc-ceeding. Let insecurities slowly fade and realize that everyone is great in his or her own way.

Do’s and Don’ts of Football Season by Shaylyn Trenkamp

In honor of tonight being the frst home foot-ball game of the season, I’m dedicating this week’s do’s and don’ts to football! Here are your tips on making the best of the rest of this season!

Do come support the Wildcats tonight! (and every other Friday!) It’s Pack the Stands night so come represent and cheer on our boys at home.

Don’t forget the black and gold and your MV spirit (this should be a given).

Do plan it up: carpools, dress-up themes, plans before/after the games, meeting up with other friends, etc.

Don’t neglect the weather; be prepared for all that football season may bring!

Do tell our football boys good luck before each football game and good job after. They all work super hard, and that hard work doesn’t deserve to go unnoticed.

Do have a great Football Friday! Good luck, boys! :)
