May 30 // Orchard Kids A Psalm about God’s Word BIBLE PASSAGE: Psalm 119 DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. What does God’s Word bring to those who follow it? (happiness) 2. How did the psalmist feel about God’s Word? (Answers will vary, but can include that he loved it like a treasure, more important than gold or silver, and sweeter than honey) 3. What does God’s Word do? (Answers will vary, but can include keeps us from sinning, protects us, and helps us when we are sad, or alone, or afraid) 4. How does God’s Word light our paths? (It shows us the way to go and what to do) 5. What choice did the psalmist make? (To obey and trust God’s Word) 6. What will be true forever? (The Word of God) 7. What is our memory verse? (“God’s Word is true and will last forever.” Psalm 119:160) *Recall the Bible story Things you need: various coloring pages and crayons As your child colors, ask them the discussion questions. Help them answer any questions and see if they have any additional questions. *Word Search Things you need: “Word search” and pencil or crayon Encourage your child to complete the word search with words from today’s Bible story. Ask them if there are words that they do not understand or ask your child to explain some of the word meanings to you in their own thoughts. *Activity Sheets Things you need: Print the additional activity sheets. Have some fun reinforcing what the Bible taught us today. *Living It Out/Pray Our video today talked about Psalms 119 being the longest chapter in the entire Bible! Did you know that the Psalm is divided into 22 sections of 8 verses, each beginning with the next letter in the Hebrew alphabet? This would help people to memorize this Psalm. Imagine-memorizing 176 verses! We are not going to challenge you to memorize this Psalm this week, but we are going to challenge your family to read through it this, and next week. Read through the Psalm, eight verses at a time, as a family. Talk about what words you may not understand. Ask each other what the verses mean. Pray for God to help you understand what His Word means and that He will hide it in your heart as you continue to spend time reading it each day.
