CENTRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL PROGRAM

Dear Central Community School Board, It is with gratitude that we submit our proposal for softball at the Central Middle School. Our primary mission is to enhance the quality of the girls softball program providing quality instruction for female athletes at the 6th and 7th grade level. This instruction will provide our young athletes with all the physical, mental, and character building tools necessary to achieve a life of wellness, health, and sporting excellence. The proposal will lay out the foundation for funding, season length, equipment, and other concerns. Other successful programs in our conference that currently have a middle school softball program include the Mount Vernon School District, Solon School District, and Clear Creek Amana Schools and 8 current teams in our conference. Local area schools that have middle school softball include the Northeast School District, Camanche School District, and Cal/Wheat has proposed to their school board to start up middle school softball. Having another quality program in our school district enhances our value and helps to attract new families to our school district and allow athletes to play on some of the first class fields in all of Iowa. Thank you for this opportunity to present this to you and we are excited at the thought of working with these athletes in the near future. Respectfully, Central Softball Staff .

POINTS OF FURTHER DISCUSSION SOME OF OUR ATHLETES DO NOT MEET THE AGE REQUIREMENTS FOR AMATEUR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION (ASA) BECAUSE OF ONE OR NO TEAM AT ALL AND HAVE TO SIT OUT A YEAR. THIS WOULD ALLEVIATE THIS LOSS OF PLAYING TIME. A MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM WOULD AFFORD US THE BENEFIT OF PLAYERS IN OUR PROGRAM FOR 7 YEARS. THIS WILL MEET THE SAME ADVANTAGES THAT OTHER PROGRAMS IN OUR SCHOOL GAIN INCLUDING WRESTLING, BASKETBALL, VOLLEYBALL, AND TRACK/FIELD. SCHOOLS IN OUR CONFERENCE THAT ALREADY HAVE AN ESTABLISHED MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM INCLUDE (8) MOUNT VERNON, SOLON, ANAMOSA, CLEAR CREEK-AMANA, CENTER POINT-URBANA, INDEPENDENCE, VINTON-SHELLSBURG, AND WILLIAMSBURG. ONLY CONFERENCE SCHOOLS THAT DO NOT HAVE A PROGRAM INCLUDE MAQUOKETA, SOUTH TAMA, WEST DELAWARE, DYERSVILLE, AND CENTRAL.
