Order of Worship Theme: Sovereign over the Nations

Announcements

Prelude The prelude is a time to prepare for the worship of our holy God. Pray that God would meet His

people as we gather. (Please silence all phones and electronic devices.)

Call to Worship *

The service begins with a scriptural “call to worship.” It is God Himself who calls His people to worship. We do not call ourselves, but it is the King who opens His gates and beckons us into His courts. Worship is a reflexive and deliberate response to His gracious call.

Galatians 1:3-5 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,

who gave Himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Confession of Faith Westminster Larger Catechism # 184 & 193

Q. 184. For what things are we to pray?

A. We are to pray for all things tending to the glory of God, the welfare of the church, our own or others, good; but not for anything that is unlawful. Q. 193. What do we pray for in the fourth petition?

A. In the fourth petition, (which is, Give us this day our daily bread,) acknowledging, that in Adam, and by our own sin, we have forfeited our right to all the outward blessings of this life, and deserve to be wholly deprived of them by God, and to have them cursed to us in the use of them; and that neither they of themselves are able to sustain us, nor we to merit, or by our own industry to procure them; but prone to desire, get, and use them unlawfully: we pray for ourselves and others, that both they and we, waiting upon the providence of God from day to day in the use of lawful means, may, of His free gift, and as to His fatherly wisdom shall seem best, enjoy a competent portion of them; and have the same continued and blessed unto us in our holy and comfortable use of them, and contentment in them; and be kept from all things that are contrary to our temporal support and comfort.

Prayer for the Congregation

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

Amen.

Tithes and Offerings / Offertory Giving is an act of worship.

We give because all we are and all we have are gifts of God’s grace. For those who are currently unable to attend the worship service you will find on the

Scripture Reading* Psalm 2

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together,

against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.

Then He will speak to them in His wrath, and terrify them in His fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.”

I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to Me, “You are My Son; today I have begotten You.

Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your heritage, and the ends of the earth Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron

and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.” Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve

the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, for His wrath is quickly kindled.

Blessed are all who take refuge in Him *Please stand if able

Why Do heathen Nations Rage? 2A

Verse 1: Why do heathen nations rage? Why do peoples plot in vain? Kings and rulers join to wage war against God’s royal reign. Speaking out against the Lord, His Anointed they defy: “Let us break apart their cords, cast away their chains” they cry. Verse 2: He who sits in heaven laughs; God derides and mocks them all. Then to them He speaks in wrath, fear and dread on them do fall:

“Yet according to My will, I have set My king to reign; Fixed on Zion’s holy hill, My Anoinyed will remain.” Verse 3: I will tell of His decree: this to Me the LORD did say, “You are My beloved Son, I have brought You forth this day. Ask for all the earth abroad; You shall own the nations far. You will break them with a rod, dash them like a potter’s jar.” Verse 4: Therefore kings, be wise, be warned; rulers of the earth, give ear. Come with awe and serve the LORD; mingle joy with trembling fear. Kiss the Son His anger turn, lest you perish in the way, For His wrath will quickly burn. All who trust Him—blest are they!

Almighty Father, Bless the Word (Doxology)

Verse 1: Almighty Father, bless the Word Which through Your grace we now have heard. Oh, may the precious seed take root. Spring up, and bear abundant fruit. Verse 2 We praise You for the means of grace As homeward now our steps we trace. Grant, Lord, that we who worshiped here May all at last in heav’n appear. Verse 3: Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above ye heav’nly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

The proclamation of God’s grace.

God’s will for His Church is for the Church to proclaim and defend Truth (I Tim. 3:15) so that God’s people may avail themselves of the ordinary means of grace in order to grow in grace and manifest the fruit of the spirit. (Col. 1: 5-6, WSC* #89)

The growth of God’s people.

God’s will for His people is to enable them to more and more die to sin and live unto righteousness. (I Thess. 4:3, WSC* #35)

The magnification of God’s glory.

God’s will is for all things to glorify Him. So, whether we eat or drink, or whatever we do, it is to be for the glory of God. We are to let our light to shine before men so that they might see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. (I Cor 10:31; Matt 5:16). Therefore, man’s chief end is to “glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.” (WSC* #1) *Westminster Shorter Catechism
