Student: TravisTeacher: Rin RibbleLocation: Madison Fourteen-year-old Travis has been playing violin for five years but initially didn’t think he’d continue after his first year of fifth-grade strings class at school. Travis started taking lessons with Rin and realized he could play anything he wanted on the violin, not just classical and fiddle music. While he does study the classics, he enjoys playing popular music hits like “Hey Jude,” “Under Pressure,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and, most recently, “Stairway to Heaven.” He is still learning and improving every day and plans to continue lessons for the next few years.

Duane Padilla Workshop. Renowned jazz violinist Duane Padilla will host a free workshop at Heid Music Oshkosh on Thur., Mar. 1, from 5:30-6:30 PM, and at Heid Music Green Bay on Sun., Mar. 4, from 12:30-1:30 PM. Reserve your spot today at HeidMusic.com.

String Fest. Heid Music Green Bay is celebrating all things strings, March 1-4, with an expanded inventory of orchestral instruments. Flute Fest. For flutists of all levels this annual event will feature guest artist Marianne Gedigian on Sat., Mar. 10 from 8 AM to 5 PM, at the UW-Whitewater. Get more information at WisconsinFluteFestival.org.

Sax Summit. Saxophonists are invited to attend FREE masterclasses and perform with the Wisconsin Saxophone Orchestra. Jeff Coffin, a member of the Dave Matthews Band, will perform on Sun., Mar. 18 from 12-6 PM at UW Oshkosh. Register at UWOSH/edu/Music. Doctors in Recital. Doctors in Recital is a collaborative event with Appleton-area physicians and sponsors to help raise funds that benefit community programs. The beneficiary of this year's program is the Fox Valley Memory Project (FVMP). The event will be held Sat., Mar. 24 at 7 PM at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley.

Heid ‘n Seek. An extension of our 70th anniversary celebration, Heid ‘n Seek is a scavenger hunt designed to give away great prizes. Each month a product will be marked with a Heid ‘n Seek sticker at each Heid Music location. Clues to find the product will be released on Heid Music’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. The first three contestants who correctly identify the marked products in-store will win.

Heid Music is bringing awareness to music education through the Music Matters Intiative. During Music in Our Schools Month (March 1-31, 2018), Heid Music will match up to $10,000 of individuals’ donations to their school district’s music program. Be sure to stop in at your local Heid Music store to help bring more music to your district. Donors will also be recognized throughout the stores!

Steinway Piano Competition. Sponsored by Steinway & Sons, this new event is giving young pianists a chance to perform in front of professional adjudicators and a live audience for a chance to win up to $1,000. Les and Dar Stumpf Youth Arts Scholarship. This scholarship is for students K-12 who reside in the Appleton, Hortonville, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Little Chute, Menasha or Neenah school districts and and who participate in an arts discipline.
