Act of Spiritual Communion:
My Jesus, I believe that You are
present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire
to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You
sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself

Dear Parishioners and Friends, We are celebra ng the feast of the Ascension this weekend.
As more of you are able to a end Mass in person, I think we can see (in a very real way) the Church rising up again in splendor, because Our Lord is in charge! Yes, Christ Jesus ascended to the heavens promising to take us back to Himself one day. But in the here and
now, as we are able to gather again to pray as a community of believers, it’s safe to say that Christ is rising even here on earth. He is rising through his church, through the liturgy, through our prayers, and through the good works that we do. What a good hopeful sight that is!
I can offer a few recent examples to prove this point:
♦ Over the last two weekends, we welcomed our new Catholics into the Church. ♦ This Sunday at 6 PM Mass, we will honor the high school graduates from our
parish at a special Mass for them. ♦ Archbishop Aymond will be celebra ng the sacrament of Confirma on at our
parish. ♦ and our First Communion children will come to receive the Lord Jesus in the
Eucharist, as well! Surely, this is substan al proof that the Church IS rising again in the ac on of her members.
Let me come back again to the graduates for just a second. As you know, this
has been a very bizarre year for the seniors of the Class of 2020. Many of them missed out on the ordinary rituals that mark a senior year of high school - including proms and even gradua on ceremonies. This fourth nine weeks was unlike anything any of the students has experienced (I would even say, including school the year a er Hurricane Katrina hit South Louisiana when these young men and women were in kindergarten.) And yet, with your help, our prayers, the grace of God, and their own determina on, they have arrived at this point - a very happy point in their lives. I’m sure that the 2020 graduates from our parish and from the whole area will do impressive things in the years to come. My hope and prayer for them is that they con nue to allow Christ to rise up - in their minds, their hearts, and their souls. My hope is that they allow the Lord Jesus to con nue to be the guiding light of their lives, and that many people will see HOPE in them - and they can draw from sense of determina on of these great graduates.
Some of the seniors from our parish have already joined the armed forces.
Others are preparing for college. S ll, others are helping their families to recover a sense of normalcy as everyone gets back to work a er the coronavirus’ worst effects have passed. I suggest that Christ Jesus is in the middle of all that. The risen Christ is at work in all of this. Christ is the hope for us all, whether we graduated this year or not.
And I do believe that more Catholics are rediscovering that truth! So for our gradua ng seniors, may you con nue to welcome the risen Christ as
THE best Friend in your lives, and for all of us, may we keep on the good path to Christ in the heavens one day!
Yours in the risen Christ,

What does a dispensa on from
Mass mean?
A dispensa on from the diocesan bishop releases Catholics from fulfilling their Sunday obliga on (Mass). Since public Masses are limited in the Archdiocese of New Orleans un l further no ce, this means that if you live in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, the right thing to do is to stay home for your safety and the safety of others. Though there is a sadness for not being able to par cipate at Mass, one should not feel guilty for not going to Mass. You have a free conscience to stay home. In addi on, one who is sick should always be conscien ous and stay home for the protec on of others.

Public Masses are limited, but your priests are s ll serving, s ll praying

LETTER FROM ARCHBISHOP GREGORY M. AYMOND
6 | SAINT LUKE THE EVANGELIST CATHOLIC CHURCH
May 12, 2020 To: Clergy, Religious and Laity Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Welcome home! Yes, our parish church is a home where we gather as God’s family to experience the risen Christ. So many have expressed to me a real hunger to receive Christ in the Eucharist during the last 2 months. The “stay home mandate” called for a radical change in daily life and called us to patience. Thanks to health care
workers, First Responders, community leaders and those who had to work on the front lines for the good of the community. Thank to parents, school administrators and teachers who created virtual schools for our children. I know some are still hesitant to gather with others. Please recall that Catholics are dispensed from the obligation to celebrate Mass on Sunday during the pandemic. Heartfelt gratitude to our clergy who continue to lead God’s people in this challenging time. Pastors were very creative in finding ways to bring the church into the homes of so many people. Please join me in asking God for his healing touch on those who are ill and peace to those who have lost loved ones in death. In time more will be allowed to gather for Mass. Please be patient! Please wear a mask. Please observe social distancing. Please pray! Wishing you God’s peace and protection, I am Sincerely in Christ, Most Reverend Gregory M. Aymond
We are so proud and excited to welcome these new Catholics into the fullness of our faith!

Ursuline counselor offers ps to soothe children during coronavirus pandemic excerpted from the Clarion Herald By Tracy Buccino, High School counselor at Ursuline Academy MARCH 17 • Listen to and validate your children’s concerns. If your child tells you
they have heard scary things about the coronavirus, avoid automatically dismissing their fears.
• Provide your children with information about the virus but keep it
simple, age-appropriate and fact-based... You may wish to tell them that most kids and most people in general aren’t getting very sick and that only a small group has had serious problems. Follow that up with assurances that if they or someone they love gets sick, there are people who will help them.
• Manage/monitor your children’s access to media coverage and
social media and be aware of the impact it may be having on their emotional state.
• Try to manage your own anxiety. .. calmly let them know about your concerns, then brainstorm together ways that the whole family can cope with this stressful situation.

THE GOOD SAMARITAN MINISTRY HAS REOPENED WITH SOME LIMITATIONS. We are so glad to be back to serving our community. Our first priority is your safety and ours while the virus is s ll prevalent. So, we have some new procedure that MUST be followed. 1.) Drive up for FOOD, DIAPERS, or FORMULA will be done by comple ng paperwork outside in your car, slipping that paperwork through our mail slot to have your request validated and approved aid given by u lizing our enclosed alcove. You will not be allowed into the office for any reason, including the need to use a restroom. Please have your own pen and ability to write on a hard surface handy. 2.) Financial aid/SNAP requests will s ll need a phone interview to verify your eligibility for an appointment. If eligible, we will email, mail or pre-package required paperwork to be picked up through our mail slot. 3.) We will require proof of s mulus and unemployment benefits in addi on to more rou ne valida ons of ID, other income sources, bills, and bank statements. Once all paperwork is received and validated, an appointment will be made for a phone interview with a counselor to determine aid or apply for SNAP. We want nothing more than to pray with you, give spiritual hugs and provide comfort in these troubling
mes. That day is on the horizon, but un l then, to provide aid, we must first be safe. Thank you for understanding. We are in urgent need of: canned chicken (7-12 oz can), spaghe sauce (24 oz can), cookies (36 ct), pancake mix (1 lb box), pancake syrup (20 oz), deodorant (1.5 oz), shampoo (12 oz), and we also need: canned beans, mixed fruit, jelly, tuna, peanut bu er, dry beans, rice meals, mashed potatoes, rice.
