IntroThe apostrophe is a part of
punctuation; it is used to indicate missing letters or possession. Here are some examples:
Sally’s donkey is fat and ugly.
Or…
I can’t dance with that octopus.

Do you get it?? The first example was of possession.
This is how you use it:You put the name or thing
Then our beloved… apostrophe! Then you add an s. Here is an example
Fatty’ s foot. Or…Gertrude’s pet giraffe

BUT…
![Page 5: A p o s t r o p h e s](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062222/56815e4f550346895dccc911/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
If the word is plural…Just add an apostrophe
on the end!!Pour exemple…
The fat girls’ onions.Or…
The gorillas’ uncles.

The other type of usage of theapostrophe is for missing letters.
You use it to make a word into what we call a contraction.
A contraction is a shortened word, like shouldn’t; it was used when a letter
was skipped; they add should and not together, then remove the o.

There is no real pattern for finding contractions;
you’d be better off just looking on
Google.
