Spinner

Base A. Open Base File and Edit Helix.Step 1. Open your BASE file saved in Chapter 1, Fig. 1.

Step 2. Expand Sweep1 feature in the Feature Manager, click Helix/Sprial1 and click Edit Feature in the Context toolbar, Fig. 2.

Step 3. In the Helix/Spiral Property Manager set: under Parameters Fig. 3 change Revolutions from .125 to .25 click OK .

B. Surface Loft Profile Sketch4.Step 1. Click top face of sweep and click Sketch

from the Context toolbar, Fig. 4.

Step 2. Click Normal To on the Standard Views toolbar. (Ctrl-8)

Step 3. Click Circle (S) on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 4. Draw a circle starting at the Origin and before you move the cursor away from the circle, right click circle and click Construction

hold down middle mouse button (wheel) and drag to rotate view, Fig. 8.

Step 2. Click bottom face of sweep and click Sketch from the Context toolbar, Fig. 8.

Step 3. Click Normal To on the Standard Views toolbar. (Ctrl-8)

Step 4. Click Line (L) on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 5. Draw line from circle (coincident) in Sketch4 par-allel to right edge of sweep bottom face and into center of nose cone, but not to Origin, Fig. 9.

Step 6. Right click graph-ics area and click Select from menu to unselect Line tool.

Step 7. Ctrl click the line and right edge of sweep bottom face to select both. Release Ctrl key and click

Make Collinear on the Context toolbar, Fig. 10 and Fig. 11.

Step 8. Click Exit Sketch on the Sketch toolbar.

D. Surface Loft Direction Vector 3D Sketch1.Step 1. Click Trimetric on the Standard

Views toolbar.

Step 2. Click Sketch on the Com-mand Manager toolbar.

Step 3. Click 3D Sketch in the

Sketch flyout on the Sketch toolbar. Be sure to click the flyout ar-row to select 3D Sketch.

Step 4. Click Centerline in the Line flyout

on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 5. Draw Construction Line1 out to left from endpoint of line in Sketch4 (at circle), Fig. 12.

Step 6. Right click graphics area and click Select from menu to un-select Centerline tool.

Step 7. Ctrl click Top Plane in the Feature Manager, Fig. 13 and Construction Line1 to select both, Fig. 14. Release Ctrl key and click Make Parallel on the Context menu.

Step 8. Ctrl click Construction Line1 and line in Sketch4 to select both, Fig. 15. Release Ctrl key and click Perpendicu-

lar on the Context toolbar.

Step 9. Click Center-

line in the Line flyout

on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 10. Draw Con-struction Line2 out to left from endpoint bot-tom endpoint of Construc-tion Line1, Fig. 16.

Step 11. Right click graphics area and click Select from menu to unselect Centerline tool.

Step 12. Ctrl click Construction Line2 and line in Sketch4 to select both, Fig. 17. Release Ctrl key and click

Step 19. Exit the 3D Sketch. To Exit, click Exit 3D

Step 20. Save. Use Ctrl-S.

E. Surface Loft Guide Curve 3D Sketch2.Step 1. Rotate view to view body on right of sweep, hold

down middle mouse button (wheel) and drag to rotate view, Fig. 22.

Step 2. Click Spline on Surface in the

Spline flyout on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 3. Draw a 3 point Spline on cylindrical surface of Shell1 solid body, Fig. 22. Start towards bottom with Spline Point 1. Press Escape to end spline.

Step 4. Ctrl click Spline Point 1 and line in Sketch5 to select both, Fig. 23.Release Ctrl key and click Make Coinci-dent on the Context menu.

Step 5. Ctrl click Spline Point 3 and line in Sketch4 to select both, Fig. 24. Re-lease Ctrl key and click Make Coincident

on the Context menu.

Step 6. Hide Shell1 and Sweep1 solid bodies. To hide, expand Solid Bodies folder in the Feature Manager. Expand Display Pane and under Hide/Show column

for Shell1 and Sweep1 click Showto turn off show, Fig. 26. We’ll have a cleaner view as we add dimensions.

Also, hide Sketch4, Sketch5 and 3DS-ketch1. To hide, Sketches in the Display Pane under Hide/Show column click Show to turn off show, Fig. 26.

Step 7. Click Isometric on the Standard Views toolbar. (Ctrl-7)

Step 8. Click spline to select it.

Step 9. In the Spline Property Manager: under Parameters, Fig. 27 check Tangent driving.

Step 10. Click Centerline in the Line flyout on the Sketch toolbar. The cursor should change to XY plane

indicating you are sketching in XY plane. If not, press Tab key to switch sketch plane. Refer to the Refer-

ence Triad at the bottom left corner of the graph-ics area to determine the sketch plane.

Step 11. Draw a construction line up from each Spline Point, Fig. 28. To draw line on Y axis, click Spline Point to start line. Move cursor down along Y axis, when cur-

sor changes to (yellow y) click. To terminate chain, double click back on the construction you have just drawn. Draw a construction line up from the other two Spline Points along Y axis. Use

(yellow y), Fig. 28.

Step 12. Click Smart Dimension (S) on the Sketch toolbar.

Step 13. Dimension Spline Point 1 to Spline Point 2 Along X, Fig. 29. To dimension along the X axis, click both Spline Points 1 and 2, then press Tab key once to

change cursor to . Click to place dimension, key-in the .122 dimensions and press ENTER.

Step 14. Dimension Spline Point 1 to Spline Point 2 Along Y, Fig. 30. To dimension along the Y axis, click both Spline Points 1 and 2, then press Tab key twice to change cur-

sor to . Click to place dimension, key-in the .159 dimensions and press ENTER.

Step 15. Starting from the top, dimension the three Spline Point Tangent Weighting, Fig. 31.605.793 .216. To dimension Tangent Weighting, click the Spline Point to display the Circular Spline handle and click the Circular Spline handle , then move the cursor out away from spline and click. Set the value in the Modify box and press ENTER.

Step 16. Starting from the top, dimension all three Tan-gent Radial Directions , Fig. 32323.7º 127.21º144.77º To dimension Tangent Radial Direction, click the construction line and Circular Spline handle , then move cursor up and to left of Spline Point and click. Set the value in the Modify box and press ENTER.

Step 17. Exit the 3D Sketch. To Exit, click Exit 3D

F. Surface Loft.Step 1. Show both Shell1 and Sweep1 solid bodies.

To show, expand Solid Bodies folder in the Feature Manager. In the Display Pane under Hide/Show column for both Shell1 and Sweep1 click Hide to turn hide off, Fig. 33. Show all hidden Sketches. To show, for all Sketches in the Display Pane under Hide/Show column click Hide to turn hide off, Fig. 33.

Step 2. Click Surfaces on the Command Manager toolbar.

Step 3. Click Lofted Surface on the Surfaces toolbar.

Step 4. Rotate view to view body on right of sweep, hold down middle mouse button (wheel) and drag to rotate view, Fig. 35.

Step 5. In the Surface-Loft Property Manager: under Profiles, Fig. 34 click line in Sketch4, Fig. 35 click line in Sketch5

expand Start/End Constraints under Start/End Constraints: set Start constraint type Direction Vector click angled Construction Line2 at top in 3D Sketch1 set End constraint type Direction Vector click Construction Line3 at bottom in 3D Sketch1

under Guide Curves click in Guide Curves box and select 3D Sketch2 click OK .

Step 6. Hide any Sketches. To hide, click Sketch in graphics area and Hide on the Context toolbar, Fig. 36.

Step 7. Save. Use Ctrl-S.

G. Replace Face1.Step 1. Click Replace Face on the Surfaces toolbar.

Step 2. In the Replace Face Property Manager: under Replace Parameters, Fig. 37 Target faces for replacement click right side face of sweep, Fig. 38 click in Replacement surfaces box click Surface-Loft1

click OK .

H. Move Body1.Step 1. Hide Surface-Loft1. To hide, click Sur-

face-Loft1 and Hide on the Context toolbar, Fig. 39.

Step 2. Click Insert Menu > Features > Move/Copy.

Step 3. In the Property Manager set: under Bodies to Move/Copy, Fig. 40 click swept body, Fig. 41under Translate

Delta Y .032 press Tab key on keyboard click OK .

I. Surface Offset (Copy).Step 1. Click Offset Surface on the Surfaces toolbar.

Step 2. In the Offset Surface Property Manger: under Offset Parameters, Fig. 42 click cylindrical face of nose cone, Fig. 43 Offset Distance 0

click OK .

J. Replace Face2.Step 1. Rotate view to view body on right of sweep,

Step 2. Click Replace Face on the Surfaces toolbar.

K. Extruded Cut.Step 1. Hide Surface-Offset1. To hide, click Surface-

Offset1 and Hide on the Context toolbar, Fig. 47.

Step 2. Click Top Plane in the Feature Manager and click Sketch from the Context toolbar,Fig. 48.

Step 3. Click Trimetric on the Standard Views toolbar.

Step 4. Click Circle (S) on the Sketch toolbar.

L. Move Face.Step 1. Click Insert Menu > Face > Move.

Step 2. In the Move Face Property Manager set: under Move Face, Fig. 52 select Offset click outside face of sweep, Fig. 53 under Parameters

Distance .02 uncheck Flip direction click OK .

M. Fillet1 Full Round.

Step 1. Click Fillet on the Features toolbar.

Step 2. In the Fillet Property Manager: select Manual, Fig. 54 under Fillet Type

select Full Round Fillet add a Full Round Fillet to side, bottom and inside face of sweep, Fig. 55 and Fig. 56. Tip: after selecting a surface and before moving cursor, right click to move selection to next selection box. Rotate view to view bottom of sweep, hold down middle mouse button (wheel) and drag to rotate view, Fig. 56. click OK .

N. Fillet2 Full Round Trailing Edge.

Step 1. Click Fillet on the Features toolbar.

Step 2. In the Fillet Property Manager: under Fillet Type, Fig. 58

select Full Round Fillet Add Full Round Fillet to outside cylindrical face of nose cone, bottom face and inside cylindrical face, Fig. 59. After select-ing a surface and be-fore moving cursor, right click to move selection to next se-lection box. click OK .

O. Circular Pattern.Step 1. Click Trimetric on the Standard Views toolbar.

Step 2. Click Circular Pattern in the Linear Pattern flyout on the Fea-tures toolbar. Click the flyout arrow to select Circular Pattern.

P. Combine Bodies.Step 1. Click Insert Menu > Features > Combine.

Step 2. In the Combine Property Manager: under Operation Type, Fig. 63 select Add drag a selection to select all, Fig. 64 click OK .
