Build Community

Even though seats were reserved in mid-January, it was too late to get a large block behind home plate like last year. So we will be in U344, down third base line. They are a few dollars less, still in the shade (most importantly), and great for watching the concert!

Payment is due July 17 (checks payable to Family in Christ)

Please reserve your tickets NOW! Contact Margie Bessler at 303-431-2988 or [email protected]. Invite your family, neighbors and friends!!

This summer, take time to connect with other families at our

Dinners for Eight . . . or So

Summer is nearly here and that means it’s time for Dinners for Eight, a great way to make some new connections with others at Family in Christ. By participating in Dinners for Eight, you will meet others beyond worship or a Life Group in a casual, social setting. Eight (or so) adults are assigned to a group and commit to dining together approximately four times throughout the summer and early fall, taking turns hosting in homes or enjoying new restaurant experiences together, or even meeting at a park. It’s flexible, fun, and really helps you be able to put a name with a face of someone you worship with, but maybe have not yet met. Even if your home cannot accommodate eight for dinner, you can still participate.

Dinners for Eight “reservations” are needed by May 14. Reservation forms, with much more information,

will be available at the Sign Up table in the Great Room; or on our website under “Get Connected” then Adult Ministries

or this link: http://www.familyinchrist.com/dinners-for-8/

Questions? Contact Margie Bessler at [email protected] or 720-837-8522.

Safety & Security Department

In order to provide a reasonable measure of safety and security for our congregation, buildings and grounds the church safety and security department is currently recruiting for security and associate medical positions. Individuals with current or prior law enforcement, military, security and medical backgrounds are encouraged to apply. If you are interested in these volunteer positions and wish to be considered, please contact Randy Borden, John Pisani or Jerry Chesser.

Jerry Chesser, Pastor – Adult Ministries [email protected] 303-525-1009

Hosts and / or Facilitators For information about what’s involved for Life Groups and Park-A-Palooza, contact Morgan (morgan@familyinchrist).

For The Marriage Course, The Marriage Prep Course, or Parent-ing Course, contact Jerry Chesser ([email protected]). These are wonderful opportunities to connect with others at FiC.

Weekly Meals Coordinator

Margie Bessler has blessed our Family for many years directing our Tuesday and Wednesday night meals, but has decided to step down and take a well-deserved break from this ministry. So when you see Margie over the next few weeks, thank her for her dedication, time and effort in building the ministry for all those involved and served.

With that said, our Family is looking for someone to step up and step into this role of coordinating the weekly dinners. If your “purpose” is to cook and serve and you would like to lead this vital ministry, please contact Jerry at [email protected].

We will also take a look at any opportunity for multiple groups to do this ministry, to help split the duties. Many of you may remember we used to have several cook teams who would serve once a month when we first began Wednesday Night Live! Please prayerfully consider taking a role in this area!

Annual Church

Yard Sale

Our annual church yard sale will be Saturday, September 9 from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm in the church east parking lot. As you go through your usable, but unwanted, items this summer, please save some for this sale. The money raised will be used towards our annual Operation Christmas Child project. As we have not room to store things too far ahead of time, please watch for details in the July/August Newsletter on when you can bring your items to the church.

Our 42 Days on Purpose campaign may be over, but it’s still having an impact on our church. Now is not the time to sit back, but to consider how you can get off the bench and into the game by using the gifts and talents God has given you. Here are a few unique opportunities to serve. Maybe you see another need that would line up with where God is leading you… Act on it!

Growing Home Ministry Family in Christ is responsible for on-site help at the Lutheran Center (74th & Samuel, Westminster) May 7—10. Specific help needed: Meal prep and serving on May 7 and 9, plus overnight host(s) on May 10. Contact Dave Rogers (rogersd.com/GH) for more information about this ministry that helps homeless families get back on their feet by providing safe housing, meals, fellowship, and hope.

Sunday Mornings This time is used to teach 6th-12th grade students how to read the Bible in a relevant way that helps them connect with God and each other.

9:00 am: Book of Psalms 10:30 am: Middle School and High School split into different rooms for their respective studies. Middle School is doing an Inductive Study on Philippians—Learning to be Like Christ; High School: The Dare

Inductive Study on Philippians: Do you want to learn how to become more like Christ? Join us as we gather in “The Lodge” each week to take an in-depth look at the book of Philippians.

The Dare: “I DARE YOU! In this moment, I challenge you to become something you have always wanted, but only dreamed about.” This devotional shows readers how to do this in the power of God each week. We'll be going through, step by step, this amazingly practical, engaging and relevant book for High School students each week in our new fun space called "The Cabin.”

Youth Group—Sundays 4 to 6 pm (thru May)

6 to 8 pm (beginning June 4) Connect with us! Each gathering includes a fun and creative game, a segment of worship and prayer, and either a relevant message/video or small group discussions. Plus, you’ll get the occasional free food! You won’t want to miss the fun, so come and join us. Specifically, May will include large group nights with our high school and middle school students, and our final iron group night of the school year, which is where we meet in small groups. In June the time changes of our gatherings from 6:00-8:00. In addition, we are going to change the format of the nights to fit our needs as a group and embrace the summer experience. There will be more information to come on that. We hope to see you there each week.

Please note, NO YOUTH GROUP on: May 14 - Mother’s Day May 28 - Memorial Day June 18 - Father’s Day

MISSON TEAM: If you are part of the mission team, please be aware of the mission trip meeting dates the next two months: May 21, June 11 & June 18.

What?! The school year is almost over?! Believe it or not, summer is right around the corner, which means new and exciting things for LIFT Ministries. The first thing to note is our time change that happens during the summer. We currently have our regular gatherings every Sunday from 4-6; however starting June 4, our regular gatherings will be Sundays from 6-8. These gatherings and opportunities for the youth include: large group, iron groups, a summer kick off, retreats, fun-days, and more.

Also, there will be a guys’ retreat June 2-4 for all boys, 8th grade and up, called Epic Hero (more information below). Vacation Bible School for the children’s ministry is June 19-23. We are looking for youth interested in being leaders. Important dates for this event are trainings on May 21 and June 4. Be on the lookout for more information about other events and opportunities in the works. Contact Wes, Carrie, or T.O.M. if you are looking for more information or have any questions.

We are in the midst of our series, Shine! during Youth Group time. This exciting series is teaching and training us how we can share and shine the light of the world to our friends and community. We watch a short, thrilling video, then dive into stimulating conversation and discussion. You won’t want to miss the rest of this series!

Epic Hero: Chasing Lions What: An epic weekend for all boys going into 8th grade – 12th grade. Experience the life-changing weekend calling all young men to be epic heroes for Christ. Learn how to face the lion(s) in your life in a tangible way, just as Benaiah faced and conquered his lion in a pit on a snowy day. The boys will experience this fantastic story through peers, messages, and more. Of course, there will be manly food, historic games, mountain adventures, and wait for it... paintball. Who: Any 8th-12th-grade boy is welcome! Any interested friends, too. When: June 2-4, 2017 Time: Meet at Family in Christ at 5:30 pm on Friday; we’ll return Sunday, prior to youth group. Where: The glorious mountains of Red Feather, Colorado in cabins. Registration: due May 21 — contact Wes for more information.

Little Lambs Nursery Ministry infants & toddlers / 0 — 4 years

Available at all worship services, our little ones will grow in faith through an interactive program that includes Bible stories, singing praise, play, and prayer.

The Nursery can always use more volunteers during all services. Help nurture our littlest members and give their parents a chance to be filled with meaningful and undistracted worship, without their kiddos.

Please contact Angela to volunteer. Angela Schenk, Director ([email protected])

Sundays 10:30 am

Join us for our Deep Blue curriculum. Children will get to know Christ and the Bible through fun games, crafts and group learning activities. Classroom ages are:

Pre-school — 3 and 4 year olds Age 5 and Kindergarteners

1st and 2nd graders 3rd, 4th and 5th graders

Sundays 9:00 am Instead of a more traditional Sunday school class, W.O.W. teaches Bible messages in a new and action-driven way in a group setting. This is a great option to keep your kids engaged if you attend worship and/or an adult class during both hours. Instead of children doing the same Sunday school class twice at 9 and 10:30, they will get two completely different lessons and settings! This gives you, the parents, an opportunity to worship at 9 and participate in M.O.R.E at 10:30! WIN!!

If you have questions or wish to volunteer, please visit our Children’s Information Desk or email us at [email protected].

If you are new to Family in Christ, you might want to know about baptism. Baptism is available to individuals upon their profession of faith in Jesus Christ, as well as to children of parents who are members of our congregation.

The baptism of infants witnesses to the truth that God’s love claims us even before we are able to respond in faith. Parents wanting to preserve baptism for the time of their child’s personal profession of faith in Christ may present their young children for dedication.

Baptisms and dedications are part of the worship experience at Family in Christ and are administered during our weekend worship services. The mode of adult baptism—either by immersion or aspersion (sprinkling)—is the choice of each individual.

If you would like to know more about baptism, please contact Pastor Paul.

DEACONS

The Council of Family in Christ consists of lay people elected to serve as Elders or Deacons for a 3-year term. Along with Pastor Paul, the Council works together for the w e l f a r e o f t h e congregation and to foster community outreach.

The role of Elder is one of shepherding the flock and encouraging them to understand their calling to care for and support one another.

The role of Deacon is servant-oriented, to offer mercy, and oversee the benevolence ministry.

Photos to help put a face with a name of each Council member are available by the coat racks at the west end of the church.
