Ethernet Wiring
Connecting through an existingnetwork, hub or switch:
Connecting directly from OCS to OCS or Computer to OCS:
Sufficient for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-T Connections including all Horner products

Ethernet Troubleshooting
Step 1:• Connect directly; Bypass the IT department
– Use Reversing cable to connect point-to-point
– Use a small switch to connect 3 or more components
– Give each component a unique IP address:
• 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2, … 192.168.0.255
– If using a computer, reassign its IP address• Through the Control Panel Networking
Get the system working connected directly FIRST!

Ethernet Troubleshooting
Step 2:
• Determine all of the barriers between the Ethernet components– Connected directly? (No barriers)– Just on an internal network?– Available to the internet and the world?
If successfully connected directly or if that’s not feasible…

Ethernet Troubleshooting
Step 3:
• Consult the Ethernet Supplement manual– Hornerocs.com Manuals OCS I-O SmartStacks
etn200-etn300 etn200-300 Supp– Look up the ‘Network Administrator Installation Notes’ under the
‘Installation’ section– Take note of any instructions or warnings depending on the type of
installation being done– Especially take note of the UDP or TCP port for the protocols being
used.
After determining all barriers the Ethernet must go through…

Ethernet Troubleshooting
Step 4:• Configure IP addresses on “The Network”
– Have IT personnel give you a valid, unused address for each component
– Have IT personnel associate an external IP address if access to the outside world is needed
– Have IT personnel provide the Gateway Address if access to the outside world is needed
– Have IT personnel “poke holes” in any firewalls according to what UDP or TCP ports are needed
» Consult the Ethernet Supplement manual, previous slide
After consulting the Ethernet Supplement manual…

Does it work now?

Notes• The IP address that a component is programmed
with (its “internal” network address) may be different from its IP address from the outside world (its “external” network address).
• A domain name can be associated with the external IP address– For example, “webdemo.heapg.com”
• A Flash card must be present for FTP to work • A Flash card with HTML files on it must be present
for HTTP to work!
