Canteen Grand Reopening

After much work, the canteen renovation project is now complete. And what a change!

Patients were invited to a grand reopening celebration on the morning of October 16 where

coffee and fruit-filled Danish pastries were served. Many of the patients’ decorative ideas for

the canteen were implemented - a large wide-screen TV, a cozy fireplace, comfortable

couches and pillows, forest color scheme, and wood accessories. The fireplace was

constructed by the hospital’s Physical Plant, led by Supervisor Tim Payne. It features an inset

for the TV and DVD player. The artistic wall hangings were created by Rehabilitation

Therapists John Sakel and Shane Hickrod and are made out of painted wooden blocks.

The atmosphere has been transformed into a warm and inviting place for patients to visit,

mingle, and relax. In addition to the daily canteen snack and Friday diner experience, other

social gatherings and programs are anticipated such as coffee hour, tea parties, and/or group

programs.

The canteen has always been a popular

meeting place and will continue to be

enjoyed by our patients for many years

to come.

State Employees’ Community Campaign Page 3

This year’s campaign, The Heart of Public Service”, exemplifies the spirit of state employees

and their willingness to voluntarily step up, invest and assist those in need. The annual state-

wide effort gives employees the opportunity to support their favorite charities.

Over 90 ESH employees pledged $23,576.60, that will impact thousands of people in our

community and around the world touched by non-profit organizations.

During the campaign, employees had a bit of fun with a book swap, speed stacking

competition, jeans day, bucket of pledges challenge, and pumpkin contest. In addition to the

pledges, employees collected 459 needed items for the Peace Zone Recovery Center, Tri State

Food Bank’s Weekend Backpack program, and The Salvation Army. What a generous group

we have! Our goal of a 10% increase was achieved by continuous giving and several new

pledges.
