IEEE SB of Electronics Engineering Nagpur

recently conducted its first Social activity under

IEEE at Zilla Parishad Primary School Kanhan on

26/07/14.

The following topics were discussed:

Conservation of Trees

Basics of Electricity

What to do in case of Electric

Shock, safeguarding ourselves.

Things of National interest

Quiz, games, recitation of VandeMataram

and National Anthem

Importance of Oxygen, presence of pigments

in plants, traffic signs and symbols, tips for

maintaining hygiene, and their knowledge

about current scenario in India was tested.

The Exicom of IEEE SB G H Raisoni College of

Engineering would implement in their corporate

fields. They even made the students understand

about basics of Memory, chips, mobiles and

Laptops; how a cricket game fits within a small

mobile, etc. The problems faced by Students at ZP

Schools were discussed. According to the Teachers,

parents of such children are daily wage workers and

hence they are not able to give proper attention to

their children. Even the parents meeting goes

unnoticed because the parents demand money equal

to what they would get by doing work for the

particular time they would WASTE in school!

Because of these economic problems, education

suffers a lot and how to manage such situations

possesses a big problem. The IEEE SB GHRCE

Exicom instilled within the students, the significance

of working hard for achieving their dreams. They

tried their bit for instilling interest and thirst for

Knowledge in those innocent minds.

Civil Engineering Department of G. H.

Raisoni College of Engineering has organized

Industrial Visit of 7th Semester (Section A & B)

students on 16th August 2014 at “Kapricon Sleeper

Industry Pvt. Ltd. Butibori as a tour for Advanced

Structural Design. It was very interactive session of

students with Site In – charge Mr. Ambade and

Manager (Works) Mr. N. K. Rao. They discussed

well about pre-stressing, pre-tensioning, post-

tensioning reinforcement in railway sleeper, grade of

concrete, mixing proportion of modern concrete,

sleeper mould arrangements, placing and laying of

tendons & concrete according to the Railway Codal

provisions. Total 29 students of 7th Semester

(Section A & B) were present at that site visit. And

all 29 students got plenty of knowledge from site in

– charge, manager (works). Concept of Advanced

Structural Design along with pre-stressing has

marked well and well understood during interactive

session at visit.

Industry visit at 132 kV Hingna-I

Substation

The Industry visit at 132 kV Hingna

Substation is organized for the V sem section ‘A’

students by Electrical Engineering Department on

25th August. In this visit total 74 students were

present.

In 132 kV Hingna Substation, the incoming

power at 132 kV is from Ambazari substation and

outgoing power is towards Mankapur substation.

The power is transferred to the main bus through

isolator-circuit breaker-isolator combination. The

power from main bus is fed into 25 MVA

transformer which stepped the voltage down to 33

kV. And also two 20 MVA and one 25 MVA

transformer which stepped down voltage to 11 kV.

The power is then fed into a 33 kV Bus and 11 kV

Bus where feeders are connected which supply

power to the different loads. 33 kV Bus supply

power is given to 4 feeders and 11 kV supply is

given to 18 feeders. The key points explained to the

students in the yard were Lightening Arrestor,

Coupling Condenser, Wave trap, Isolator, Current

transformer, Potential Transformer, SF6 Circuit

Breaker, Bus, Step down Transformer, Insulators.

A single line diagram was explained with

details along with RTCC (Remote Tap Changer

Cubicle) Panel, where control and monitoring of

power is observed. PLCC room which is used for

communication purpose of lines and Battery room

which constitute of 55 cells of 110V/300 AH and 24

cell of 48 V/ 200 AH were charging. For

maintenance purposes many tests were conducted in

the substation and we observed tan δ test on

transformer bushing. Students were benefited by

both ways theoretically and practically.
