Welcome to...16 international students at COD this year as part of the Community College Initiative Program. Sponsored through the U.S. State Department, the program recruits participants from underserved and unrepresented countries and provides them with a one-year, non-degree academic program at a U.S. community college. Since starting with the CCI program during the 2012-2013 academic year, COD has hosted 124 international students from around the world. I can tell you that the energy and enthusiasm at this time of year is palpable and contagious. COD is one of only two community colleges delivering I-DEA in Illinois. Welcome to the New Dean of STEM: Jennifer Cumpston has been named COD’s new Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Jennifer has a significant background in science, education, education administration and leadership, and will oversee Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Electromechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, Engineering, Math and Physics. Administered by Rice University, the program encourages use of free textbooks, which eliminate cost barriers for students and allow unrestricted, immediate access to learning materials.
