are all used in its

Waste is systemic

The average UK office worker goes through as

many as 6,000 sheets of paper per year Or 25 sheets per day

For each office worker 3720 (62%) of

these sheets of paper are wasted or

unnecessary

1140 sheets could be

printed double-sided

900 sheets could be read on

screen instead

660 are printed

for proof-reading

300 sheets are left

forgotten on the printer

300 sheets are the

wrong documents

420 sheets are

unnecessary duplicates

Inconvenient truths

Most organisations have no idea

how many printers they have or

how many pages they print

Device:user ratios in many

organisations are more than 1:1

… but staff are not always enthusiastic

Those who currently have their own printer express more concerns about sharing – most

notably around convenience and security

Other environmental benefits

Simplified administration andprocurement

Greater visibility of costs andperformance of print/copy network

Energy consumption reduction

Greater efficiency/productivity

Reduced burden on IT department

Cost savings related tohardware/consumables

Q9 - Which do you see as relevant to your organisation?

All IT managers (200)

Most compelling benefits of MPS

Cost savings are

the most

compelling

benefit, although

easing pressure

on IT staff is a

key concern as is

greater efficiency

Savings are scalable

The Carbon Trust achieved an annual saving of

£40k for a 40-man business by streamlining print

Imperial College saved 90 tonnes of CO2 pa just

by putting in a pull print solution to stop documents

being printed and then not collected from the

output tray.

Responsibility for printers,

mfps, consumables are often

different individuals

Invitations to tender are

usually written in a device-

centric fashion which makes

it impossible for vendors to

propose more innovative

solutions

User engagement is

neglected
