Early exploration on the Yorke Peninsula Early exploration on the Yorke Peninsula Bio-geochemical analysis with an optical emission spectroscopy finish was used by Captain Hughes, who in 1851 observed: “tree roots in the area burnt with green flames….convincing him strong lodes must exist so he instructed his shepherds to look for copper”. (Blainey – The Rush That Never Ended)
James Boor found green pebbles by a Wombat hole near Kadina, Hughes identified it as copper carbonate, pegged the ground and with capital from Scottish merchants Elder and Smith sunk the first of several shafts on the Wallaroo Mines.
Funds returned from this investment helped build the great Pastoral House of Elder-Smith, and two £20,000 donations by Hughes and Elder led to the founding of Adelaide University.

Moonta Project exploration history timelineMoonta Project exploration history timeline
Historical exploration at Moonta was dominated by mid caps and majors which needed to find very large resources. This presents Adelaide Resources with a valuable historical database and a scale opportunity. The opportunity is significantly enhanced by improved copper prices since the mid 2000’s.

Alford West Stage Two drilling FPXRF (preliminary) intersections Alford West Stage Two drilling FPXRF (preliminary) intersections
Adelaide Resources has utilised a Field Portable X-Ray Fluorescence (FPXRF) Analyser to test 1610 samples (aircore samples and QA/QC standards and blanks). Samples were unprepared and run using “soil” Mode for a period of 30 seconds per test. Internal orientation test work confirms that FPXRF is an effective method for estimating copper values but lacks the sensitivity and detection limits for conducting direct gold analysis.
Intersections calculated by averaging 1 metre samples. Top cut applied with assays greater than 10% Cu cut to 10%. Introduced QA/QC samples indicate acceptable analytical quality. Intersections are downhole lengths. The FPXRF results reported herein should be considered indicative but not definitive and will be superseded by routine conventional laboratory analysis currently in progress.
