A MOUSE STORYA MOUSE STORYA MOUSE STORYA MOUSE STORY

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife

open a package. “What food might this contain”, the mouse wondered -

But he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap!

Retreating to the farmyard the mouse shouted out the warning:

“There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said;

“Mr Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no

consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.”

The mouse turned to the pig and told him: “There is a mousetrap in the house!

There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The pig sympathized but said; “I am so sorry, Mr Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray.

Be assured you are in my prayers.”

The mouse turned to the cow and said: “There is a mousetrap in the house!

There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The cow said; “Wow, Mr Mouse, I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose.”

So the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer’s mousetrap - alone.

That very night, a sound was heard throughout the house -

like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer’s wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness she did not see it was a venomous snake

whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer’s wife.

The farmer rushed her to hospital and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows that you treat fever with

fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farm yard for the soup’s main ingredient.

But his wife’s sickness continued, so friends and neighbours came to sit with her around the clock.

To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer’s wife did not get well. She died. So many people came for the funeral that the farmer had the cow

slaughtered to provide enough meat for them all.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and you think it doesn’t concern you,

Remember - when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.

We are all involved in this journey called life.

We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another

YEAR OF YOUTH 2018

“If you can’t feed a hundred people then feed just one.”

- Mother Teresa

Founder of the Missionaries of Charity

First felt a call to religious life at age 12.

Our parish will conduct the annual

Catholic Mission Church Appeal

on July 21-22, 2018

‘How beauful upon the mountains are the feet of the

messenger who announces peace, who brings good news…’ Isaiah 52:7

Next weekend our parish will be holding the annual Catholic Mission Church Appeal. This year we are invited to help

to heal a na,on through educa,on in Myanmar. Led by Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, the Church is developing an

alterna,ve system of quality educa,on, with comprehensive teacher training programs and the establishment of

new schools, especially in remote areas. It has been called an “educa,on revolu,on”, and the poten,al impact is far-

reaching. Please come prepared next weekend and give generously to this important work. You will have an

opportunity to become an integral part of this inspiring work by joining as a monthly giving partner. This regular

contribu,on will directly support educa,on in Myanmar. Freecall: 1800 257 296 catholicmission.org.au/Myanmar

Message from the Peace Through Justice Group. FINALLY!!! We are very happy and relieved that the books, art & craft items, textiles & sports goods that we sent off last year to the camp for internally displaced people in Sth Sudan have finally arrived at their destination! It took more than 20 pages of paper work, a lot more money than anticipated & an unbelievable amount of patience and hard work to get the goods out from the customs in Uganda and into the hands of the Sisters of Mercy there. They managed to send them on (after further 3 months or so) to Kampala where they were stuck for nearly a year because on-going fighting made the trip to the camp impossible. Finally, last month in a lull of fighting some soldiers accompanied the goods to the camp, but now the communication is interrupted again. We hope to convey the thanks of the children and pictures to you in the future. Many thanks for all the good work and prayers.

OUR MISSION PRAYER

We, the St Ignatius community, are called to live the good news. We pray that we become the people that Jesus Christ called us to be. We pray that we know the Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit

through knowing Jesus in prayer, scripture and liturgy. We pray that we give hope to others by a practical, personal kindness, affirming each person's dignity, worth and destiny in Christ. May we live out this mission of our Christian vocation in the spirit of St. Ignatius.

Face-to-face Safeguarding Training recommended mainly for those engaged

with children & vulnerable adults

In light of the Royal Commission recommendations and national draft standards by the new national body Catholic Professional Standards Ltd, the Safeguarding Office

have thoroughly overhauled the safeguarding training content to meet new requirements. The current training provided face-to-face is specifically targeted for

those in more leadership positions, or are engaged with children & vulnerable adults. The Safeguarding Office has been working with Catholic Church Insurance & Catholic

Professional Standards Ltd in creating online based training that would be more concise and convenient for volunteers. This online training may become available by

the end of the year. Please speak with your Parish Office to request details on where training sessions are

being hosted throughout 2018. Alternatively, those who are not due for training, are listed as minimal – moderate on People & Culture (HR) Team’s Volunteer

Requirement Matrix or are not engaged with any children & vulnerable adults may

postpone their training until online options become available at the end of 2018. The Archdiocesan People & Culture (HR) Team have been reviewing their Volunteer

Requirement Matrix document, which outlines what checks & accreditation measures are required of each volunteer role. For all volunteer requirement and background

checks questions, please contact the People & Culture (HR) Team & the Volunteer Coordinator, Mr Pat Casey.
