Exemplar PEA paragraph

Ness presents the monster as huge and frightening. When Conor stands up to the monster, the creature responds with force.

‘with a roar it pounded two fists against the house.’

Ness uses the sound verb (onomatopoeic verb) ‘roar’ to show how loud and strong the monster is, because ‘roar’ means a powerfully loud noise often associated with a ferocious animal. This suggests that this character is angry and wants to attack Conor is some way.

Also ‘pounded’ is a violent verb which is used to describe how the monster bangs on the house in a very forceful way. The addition of ‘two fists’ rather than one, implies the creature used all of its strength to frighten Conor.
