Dear White Flyer Distributor/Gun Club,

Many of you have expressed some concern regarding the recent

price increase. We are also concerned that we were forced to in-

crease cost of targets due to raw materials. This isn’t the first time

we have seen a spike in pitch prices. In late 2011 one of our suppli-

ers shut down due to a fire drastically reducing the available pitch

which drove prices to a record level. At that time we had to take

$1.00 per case increase. Months later the prices started dropping and

we immediately lowered our pricing by $.40. A year later raw materi-

al prices dropped again and we passed on an additional $.45 per case

decrease. We haven’t had a price adjustment since the end of 2014.

The reason for the current price increase is tied directly to the alumi-

num market. Several years ago China flooded the market with cheap

aluminum products in Europe and North America. When that hap-

pened aluminum plants in these areas where forced to shut down

because they could not compete with the lower prices. The alumi-

num market uses pitch to manufacture the carbon electrodes which

are used to smelt the ore. Additionally, the pitch plants either shut

down or drastically reduced their productions. Fast forward to today

and with our thriving economy the demand for high quality alumi-

num has created a comeback for the North American and European

aluminum industry. The reemerging industry is consuming the same

pitch we use in our targets; however the refineries have not scaled

up pitch production accordingly. Since Europe is experiencing a

similar situation it has forced them to use less than desirable and

expensive pitch alternatives in their targets. White Flyer wants to

continue to deliver high quality targets to all of our customers and

we will not cut corners with cheap raw materials. Raw materials are

the largest component in the cost of manufacturing targets and

history shows that our pricing tracks with the cost of those raw

materials. In addition to the increases White Flyer has also taken

four decreases since 2008. If we had not taken those decreases the

cost of targets would already be above what was announced on

March 13th. If pitch production increases and prices drop, White

Flyer as we have done in the past will pass those savings along to

the consumer.

For over 125 years White Flyer has done our best to deliver high

quality targets that shooters have demanded. We continue to sup-

port the shooting world by sponsoring more events and organiza-

tions that any other target manufacturer. We sincerely appreciate

your consideration and understanding on this issue.

A Message to Gun Clubs/Distributors

A Word from Phil Murray

Welcome to the Spring issue of the “White Flyer Orange Crusher” newsletter. We are pleased to announce that Alicia Medina, our newsletter

editor just returned after having a new son, Tobias. With her back on the job again; things will finally return to normal - she was missed!

The last few months and the start of 2018 our White Flyer Targets offered a rebate to those gun clubs that purchased over 5,000 cases of targets

in 2017. The Gun Club Incentive Rebate was so successful that we have implemented it again for 2018. It was gratifying to see how many gun clubs

qualified and how they decided to use their rebate. Some used it for improving their facility while others ordered more targets or donated it to a local

youth shooting program.

The major shoots in all the disciplines are now going strong. Major events in both Arizona and Florida are included in this issue plus coverage on

the 2018 World Cup Shotgun Matches recently held in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Last but not least, we are sure that your White Flyer Distributor has passed on the news of our recent price increase on our targets. As a result of

steep rises in our raw materials plus a booming aluminum industry that has become the largest purchaser of petroleum pitch, prices have gone up over

the last six months. We sincerely regret having to do this but it was necessary. Should you have any questions, please contact your local distributor and

they should be able to answer any questions you may have.

Over the next few months we hope that you will be able to head out to your local gun club and shoot. Our next issue will be out around August

1st and will cover many top events held all over the U.S.

We thank you for your support and business and that you will make it a point to take out a new shooter next time you head to the gun club to get

them started!

NSCA South Central Regional Sporting The South Central Sporting Clays Championships were held September 6-10, 2017 at the Providence Hill Farm Shooting Club outside Jackson, MS. Weather throughout the event was exceptional with temps in the mid 80’s and no humidity. I would have to rate this club one of the most beautiful I have ever attended. Located on 7,200 acres of rolling hills and lakes, everything was manicured and top notch for the shooters. Congratulations to Jimmy Grant and Shane Saxton for hosting a fantastic event. Many thanks to the entire staff and volunteers which included members of the Mississippi National Guard; they were very hospitable and did a fantastic job. Although the shoot had close to 400 competitors (371), attendance was affected by the Houston Hurricane and the impending Hurricane Irma in Florida. The target settings were excellent and a variety of White Flyer Targets were used throughout the courses. Breakage was exceptional and was less than 1% throughout the week. Hats off to the folks at PROMATIC that provided the machines and kept everything running smoothly.

The results are as follows:

Westy Hogans

The 111th Westy Hogans was held at the Pennsylvania State Shotgunning Association Home Grounds in Elysburg, PA September 8-10, 2017. Over 800 shooters from sixteen states and Canada participated in the tournament. Special thanks to the PSSA staff and all of the volunteers that stepped up over the three day event to help keep everything running smooth. September is a tough time of the year to host a large event with teenagers back in school and many of them playing sports and other extra-curricular activities over the weekend. PSSA managed to make it happen along with many shooters volunteering to score or load when they weren’t shooting. Temperatures ranged from the low 60’s to high 70’s with enough wind to make targets challenging at times. White Flyer AA ¾ targets performed extremely well with less than 1% breakage in the entire event!

The results are as follows:

Singles Championship – 688 entries – Champion – Dave Bicknell, East Haven, CT 200x200

Doubles Championship – 400 entries – Champion – Steve Huber, Orwigsburg, PA 99x100

GRAND OPENING

NEW GULF COAST SPORTING CLAYS COURSE

Corpus Christi Pistol and Rifle Club (CCPRC) is proud to announce the ribbon cutting and grand opening of it’s new Sporting Clays course on Saturday December 16, 2017. The new Sporting Clays course is a 16 station course on 45 acres. The landscaping was designed to look much like the coastal grass plains of Texas with oak motts (groves) scattered around the course with plenty of open area to set targets. The Sporting Clays course is the cumulation of a process started in May of 2015 with a Target Range Grant application presented to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department by club manager Craig Cook and sporting clays committee chairman Jeff Hyde (now President of the Board of CCPRC). The grant program with the Texas Parks and Wildlife, through a federal assistance grant with the US Fish and Wildlife Service (under the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act of 1937, most often referred to as the Pittman–Robertson Act) is covering about 75% and CCPRC the other 25% of the cost to build the course. The Pittman–Robertson Act is funded with the taxes gun owners pay when they buy firearms and ammunition. The course was designed by Heyward Cunningham of Promatic, Inc. Heyward comments that “the course will be a target setters dream with all the open space and air in which to set and throw targets”. Initially the course will be open on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 pm to thirty minutes prior to sunset (about 5:00 pm in the winter), Wednesdays from 10:30 to thirty minutes prior to sunset, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The club will have golf carts for rent. Pictures of the course and more info about CCPRC can be found at these websites; https://www.facebook.com/ccpistolandrifleclub and https://www.ccpistolrifleclub.com/

USA Shooting Athlete of the Year Honors

Rhode, Sanderson Earn USA Shooting Athlete of the Year Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO

USA Shooting is proud to announce six-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode and three-time Olympian Keith Sanderson as its 2017 Female and Male

Athletes of the Year.

Athlete of the Year awards were determined from a points system where points were earned based on finishes at competitions throughout the year.

Six-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode earns her fifth Athlete of the Year honors. Photo courtesy of ISSF. With a year that saw so many stellar perfor-

mances from USA Shooting Team athletes, it took the near-Herculean task of winning two International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup

gold medals, one ISSF World Cup silver medal, a fourth-place finish at the ISSF World Championship and finishing off the year by winning the ISSF

World Cup Final to earn to earn Rhode (El Monte, California) the distinction of USA Shooting Female Athlete of the Year.

“It’s a great honor and very humbling,” Rhode said of winning her fifth USA Shooting Female Athlete of the Year title. Rhode also received the honor in

2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012. She was named 2016’s USA Shooting Female Shotgun Athlete of the Year.

Rhode’s greatest competition for the year’s top honors came from within her own discipline as Dania Vizzi (Odessa, Florida) had a year more than wor-

thy of earning Athlete of the Year accolades. Vizzi became World Champion in September by topping a world-class Finals field that featured two of the

three most recent Olympic medalists including champion Diana Bascosi and Rhode. Success at the World Championships is nothing new to Vizzi having

now medaled in each of the last four World Championships. Vizzi also won the National Championships while also being a finalist at World Cup Lar-

naka and ending her successful year with a bronze medal at World Cup Finals.

After becoming the first Summer Olympian to win six medals in six straight Olympic appearances following a bronze-medal performance at the 2016

Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, it would have been easy for Rhode to rest on her proverbial Olympic laurel wreath, but that’s never been an

option the year following the Games for Rhode.

“I haven’t deliberately taken any years off after the Olympics,” she said. “It is a lot easier to maintain my shooting at a certain level rather than having to

build back up because I didn’t train.”

With so many highlights to choose from, when pressed, Rhode said that her shoot-off with Olympic champion Bacosi of Italy to win the World Cup

Final topped them all.

“The World Cup Final is the crème de la crème of competitors and by invitation only. You have to be at the top of the game to be invited. To be com-

peting with that talent and get into a shoot-off and go 22 straight in doubles, it doesn’t get much better.”

Three-time Olympian Keith Sanderson earns his second Athlete of the Year honors. Photo courtesy of the ISSF.Sanderson (Colorado Springs, Colora-

do) earned the distinction by winning gold at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final. Sanderson finished the Final with 33

hits, just one away from the current World Record. Earlier in the season, the Rapid Fire Pistol specialist and three-time Olympian also won silver at the

USA Shooting National Championships and finished in sixth place at the ISSF World Cup in Gabala, Azerbaijan. He picked up the air pistol to compete

at the recent Winter Airgun Championships and finished fourth overall while winning the Day 2 Final.

Sanderson was also named USA Shooting Athlete of the Year for Pistol in 2014 and 2015 and Male Athlete of the Year in 2009.

“I’m really happy to receive this award, and very humbled by it too,” Sanderson said. “Every World Cup for me is training for the Olympics to have a

consistent performance. I’m training for the Qualification and a Final and I’m happy to see that I’m closing in on how to do that better and get good at

both. Pistol needs a role model right now so people can see that we can win. When more people in this country see they have a chance, we’ll get more

people shooting pistol and we’re more likely to get someone winning an Olympic gold medal.”

Long-time Shooting Industry Leader Keith Enlow Named as New CEO

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (October 30, 2017)

USA Shooting’s proud tradition of excellence will now be overseen by long-time shooting sports industry executive and outdoor enthusiast Keith Enlow, who has been named the new Chief Execu-tive Officer for the organization. Enlow has served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Remington Arms and President of Barnes Bullets for the past seven years. A collegiate and competi-tive athlete himself, Enlow also brings with him an athlete-first mentality and a lifelong personal his-tory of competing, coaching and succeeding at the highest corporate and athletic levels.

A 25-year firearms industry leader, Enlow has driven growth and built an extensive network while in leadership positions with three top industry companies including Winchester Ammunition, Alliant Techsystems (ATK) and Remington Arms. Enlow brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and education as it relates to sales, marketing, product development and operational efficiencies. Enlow’s passion for the outdoors, hunting and the shooting sports gives him extensive first-hand knowledge while allowing him to leverage new partnerships and relationships for the organization that will directly impact athletes and provide the resources necessary to accelerate high performance.

“We could not be more pleased to welcome Keith Enlow to USA Shooting and put his business acumen, proven leadership abilities and strong indus-try experience to work in beginning a new, exciting chapter for our athletes and organization,” said USA Shooting Board of Directors Chair Jeff Price. “Our team and community will embrace his professionalism, energy, drive and motivation as we strive for excellence moving forward.”

“I am truly humbled by the quality of people involved in USA Shooting, including the athletes, Board members and staff, so I am beyond eager to join this great team,” Enlow said. “I hope to create excitement for USA Shooting that will generate the needed revenue to support our Olympic and Para-lympic athletes and the winning tradition of this organization.

“My primary focus will be on revenue generation to provide for and support the success of our great athletes,” added Enlow. “This in turn enhances the shooting sports for America’s youth and hopefully provides a winning formula for donors and our many current and future sponsors. I also plan to help increase awareness within the shooting industry and urge for greater involvement in supporting America’s shooting team. The association of our Olympians and Paralympians and the way they represent our industry and the United States of America is an opportunity we need more people to get behind.”

Enlow got his start in the shooting sports industry in 1996 when he was hired by Winchester Ammunition as a new product development engineer. He spent five years in that role before being promoted to Product Marketing Manager. Winchester Ammunition has been an important sponsor for USA Shooting since 1999.

From 2003 to 2010, Enlow was the Business Development & Production Programs Director for Alliant Techsystems (ATK), which manufactures and tests small caliber ammunition for the U.S. Army.

As CEO, Enlow takes over an organization that has enjoyed a tradition of excellence previously built by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and the NRA. In April 1995, USA Shooting was formed and became the full-time National Governing Body for the international shooting sports in the United States. Since then, USA Shooting Team athletes have won 22 Olympic medals, including 10 gold, five silver medals and seven bronze medals over the span of six Olympic Games – fifth most among all U.S. sports during that time.

A Missouri native, Enlow earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with honors from the University of Missouri in 1995. He competed in track and field for three years as a pole vaulter. He obtained his Master of Science degree in Business from Lindenwood Uni-versity in St. Louis in 1998.

An avid outdoor enthusiast, he is an Executive Board Member for the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI) as well as the National Defense Industrial Association. He also serves as a board member for Outdoor Dream Foundation, which provides outdoor experiences for terminally-ill children. An NRA Life Member, he is also a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Associa-tion of the United States Army and the NSSF.

Enlow has been married to wife, Stephanie, for 21 years and they have two children together -- Tanner and Corinne. He’ll begin employment with

USA Shooting on December 4.

control, how should we handle this problem?

Answer: Our targets undergo a 27 step quality control process. However

if you do think you have a problem please advise us of the following:
