TRANSCRIPT
This term for Monmouth Li-brarians Association has been constructive. During the 2011 – 2012 tenure the Executive Board has achieved a number of our goals. We have created a digital presence on both our blog and Facebook, offered an interesting autumn pro-gram with Rosalind Reisner, and met for regular meet-ings to discuss and imple-ment much needed change.
Unfortunately these accom-plishments are not enough to validate our existence. Factors such as poor at-tendance to programs over past years, the inability of professionals to continue to serve as Board members, and more accommodating
opportunities to network have led the Executive Board to vote on our dissolu-tion.
I want to express my most
heartfelt gratitude to every-
one for your allegiance and
support during Monmouth
Librarians Associations’ fifty-
one years of existence.
Your efforts and contribu-
tions have made an instru-
mental impact on the library
community. We will treasure
memories made and look
forward to creating more in
the future through other en-
deavors. Thank you and
best wishes.

C.A.P.E.S. Program Offers Free Archival Assistance The Caucus Archival Projects Evaluation Service (CAPES) is funded by the New Jersey Historical
Commission and operated by members of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference – New Jersey Caucus. CAPES offers free general assessment surveys of archival collections held by
non-profit organizations in New Jersey. The survey includes reviewing and providing recommendation for improvement in the following areas; physical facility (environmental factors, fire and security protection), storage (shelving and containers), reformatting materials (microfilm/digitization), collection arrangement and description, and policies. A detailed report will be provided and can be used to supplement other grant applications.
To be eligible, you must have collections that are open to the public and relate to New Jersey history. Only archival materials (books, papers, maps, photographs, audio-visual) are sur-veyed. Government archives are not eligible. Follow-up visits are available to those who have already had their first CAPES visit. These ses-sions can include a staff training workshop, focused collection survey, or a reassessment of
your original report if the visit was many years ago. The CAPES program is in its 23rd year of providing free archival and preservation consultation to public libraries, academic libraries, museums, historical societies and other non-profit organ-izations in New Jersey. In December 1988, members of the New Jersey Historical Commission and New Jersey Caucus of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference jointly established the program that has, to date, provided consultations to more than 400 organizations in New Jer-
sey. Please direct any questions to Frederic Pachman, CAPES Program Coordinator, [email protected]

The Atlantic Highlands Branch Dedication Ceremony
took place on Thursday April 26, 2012.
The newly renovated library is now a branch of the
Monmouth County Library System.
In July 2011, Monmouth Librarians Association Board members approved an ex-panded archives policy for the Association. The official repository for our records is the Monmouth County Archives in the headquarters of the Monmouth County Li-brary in Manalapan. Your co-archivists have been collecting and organizing the records that document the 50 year heritage of the Association. In September of 2011 the records were trans-ferred to the Monmouth County Archives. Jordan Slavens, a Rutgers Public History Intern, was assigned by Gary Saretzky, County Archivist, to process the collection which became Record Group COON9600 and consists of more than 40 folders, about 2 cubic feet.
You can view this record group at
http://co.monmouth.nj.us/page.aspx?Id=3953.
Please contact us directly to donate photographs and materials that document our
Association history.
