we prepared our homes to welcome guests who travel far and

near; where we prepared our hearts to receive the Lord in His return to glory. Let us ask the Lord that we may

witness this preparation with courage to places before us; this week and throughout the Christmas Season.

There will be three priests hearing confession. In addition to Fr. Blaise we welcome back Fr. Tom Ryan and Fr. Martin is assisting from St. George Catholic Church.

Third Sunday of Advent is the candle of Joy.

Reading St. Paul’s instructions in todays second reading sounds a little like a Mission Impossible, not to mention a wee bit Pollyannaish. “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing.” The reality is more like this: Rejoice when something good happens. Pray when we need something. So how do we incorporate these

somewhat challenging practices into our completely challenging lives? It’s actually not complicated or time-intensive. It can begin with one simple practice: gratitude. You’ve probably heard spiritual gurus and self-help experts touting the power of a gratitude journal. There’s a reason it works. Writing down a few things for which we are grateful every day begins to change our perspective and our lives, and it’s just a short leap from daily gratitude to ceaseless prayer. When we begin to count our blessings , we become more thankful for what we have and more aware of what others don’t have. Suddenly our ordinary moments are ripe for prayer. In line at the grocery store, in the waiting room at the doctors office, sitting in traffic, all of it is an opportunity for grace to enter in and for our lives to become a prayer. We don’t have to say nonstop Our Father’s, although that is an option. What we need to do is recognize the miracles in the mundane, the everyday and realize there is always reason to rejoice and give thanks.

Turkey Food Drive Results – Christmas The Knights of Columbus would like to thank the parishioners for their generosity during the Turkey Food Drive. We collected over $3,200 and 66 turkeys (32 of those turkeys were donated by the Eureka). We provided 38 families with a turkey and a gift card to a supermarket this Thanksgiving. We plan on helping needy families this Christmas as well. If you know of any parishioners (including yourself) that could use help with the fixings for a Christmas dinner please call Bob Leroux (702) 613-4324 or Miriam Flores (702) 346-4460.

The Parish Office and CCD office will be closed Tuesday, December 26th through Monday, January 1st.

There will be daily Mass Tuesday, December 26th through Friday, December 29th but the church will not be open after

Mass. On Thursday, December 28th there will not be Adoration or Confessions.

The Thrift Store will be closed December 26 through December 29th.

2018 CALENDARS

We want to thank Virgin Valley Mortuary and

Creative Cleaning for sponsoring the 2018

calendars that will be handed out after Mass

this weekend. These two companies have been

covering the cost of the calendars for many

years and we appreciate their continued support of our parish.

The Festival of Lessons and Carols is a service of Scripture and song that dates to the

late 19th century. In this service, we listen to

nine Scripture lessons which recount the Fall,

the promise of a Messiah, the Incarnation, and

the Great Commission to preach the Good

News. Each lesson is followed by a carol or

other song that reflects on the lesson's message

and a brief prayer.

Come join us on Sunday, December 17th at 4pm.

Following the service St. Martha's Guild will provide

light refreshments in the Gathering Hall.

BAPTISMS: Register at the Parish Office 2 months in advance. Baptisms in Spanish are on the first Saturday of the month at 1pm. English Baptisms are on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of the month at Noon. A $100 deposit is required at the time of registration. Quinceañeras in Spanish are held on Saturdays at 12Noon but not on the 1st Saturday of the month. Quinceañera in English are on Saturdays at Noon. The young woman and her parents are required to meet with the Priest or Deacon prior to the celebration. FUNERAL MASS: Contact Parish Office for a date and time if not already arranged through the mortuary. MINISTRY TO THE SICK/HOMEBOUND: To arrange Communion to the sick or homebound or to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick for someone on Hospice, seriously ill, the elderly or anyone scheduled for surgery

Este es el tiempo cuando preparamos nuestros hogares para dar la bienveni-da a visitantes que viajan de cerca y de lejos, cuando preparamos nuestros corazones para recibir al Señor en su regreso a la gloria. Pidamos al Señor que podamos tener el valor de dar testimonio de esta preparación a

lugares ante nosotros, esta semana y a través de la temporada de Navidad.

El Tercer Domingo de Adviento es el Cirio del Júbilo.

La lectura de las instrucciones de San Pablo en la segunda lectura de hoy suena un poco como Mis-ión Imposible, sin mencionar que suena un poco cán-dido. “Alégrense siempre. Oren sin cesar.” La reali-

dad es más bien así: Alégrese cuando sucede algo Bueno. Oremos cuando necesitamos algo. Entonces, ¿cómo incorporamos en nues-tras vidas totalmente complicadas estas práticas algo difíciles a se-guir? En realidad no es complicado ni ocupa mucho tiempo. Puede comenzar con una práctica simple: gratitud. Probablemente usted ha escuchado a gurús espirituales o a expertos en autosuperación promocionando el poder de un diario de gratitud. Hay una razón por la cual eso trabaja. El escribir cada día algunas cosas por las que debe-mos estar agradecidos comienza a cambiar nuestra perspectiva y nuestras vidas, y es un salto corto de la gratitud diaria a la oración constante. Al comenzamos a enumerar nuestras bendiciones, es-taremos más agradecidos por lo que tenemos y más conscientes de lo que otros no tienen. Súbitamente, nuestros momentos ordinarios se ven propicios para la oración. En la línea en el mercado, en la sala de espera de la oficina del doctor, estancado en el tráfico, todo eso es oportunidad para que nos entre la gracia y para que nuestra vida se convierta en oración. No es necesario decir el Padre Nuestro sin ce-sar, aunque es una opción. Lo que necesitamos hacer es reconocer los milagros en lo mundano, en lo diario, y darnos cuenta que siempre hay un motive de alegrarnos y de dar las gracias.

Resultados de la Campaña de Pavos – Navidad Los Caballeros de Colón desean agradecerle a los feligreses su generosidad durante la Campaña de Donaciones de Pavos.. Recogimos más de $3,200 y 66 pavos (Eureka donó 32 pavos). Este Día de Acción de Gracias ayudamos a 38 familias con un pavo y una tarjeta para el supermercado. Planeamos también ayudar a familias necesitadas esta Navidad. El Festival de Lecturas y Villancicos es un servicio de Sagradas Escrituras y villancicos

que data de los finales del siglo 19. En este ofi-

cio, escuchamos nueve lecturas de las Sagradas

Escrituras que hablan de la Caída, la promesa de

un Mesías, la Encarnación y la Gran Comisión de

dar a conocer las Buenas Nuevas. A cada lectura

le sigue un villancico u otra canción que reflexiona sobre el mensaje

de la lectura y una breve oración. Unase a nosotros el Domingo,

diciembre 17 a las 4pm. Después del oficio, el Gremio Santa

Martha proveerá un refrigerio ligero en el Salón Social.
