You’re Invited to… Dinner & A Movie Friday, September 7

6:30 p.m.

You are invited to join us for a pulled pork dinner in the Calvary Fellowship Hall followed by the movie “Like Arrows” in the Worship Center. The evening is free of charge and childcare will be provided for those children who do not attend the movie. The movie is rated G and we will leave it to parents’ discretion as to whether or not to allow your children to attend the movie.

About the movie… When conflict, rebellion and resentment overwhelm their family, Charlie and Alice are forced to change their parenting strategy, and are surprised to find effective, life-long solutions were closer than they imagined. So that we may plan accordingly, please sign up at the lobby counter or at the children’s check-in counter by September 4.

Calvary Family—we ask that you bring a salad or dessert to share. Please invite friends, too! Daycare / Preschool Parents—you need not bring anything as you are our honored guests!

CALVARY

Questions have power… Unanswered questions linger. Within the church today, there exists a deepening chasm of unanswered questions. Ignoring these questions can lead to individual skepticism and wholesale disbelief. In Unanswered, author Jeremiah Johnston, Ph.D., provides you with the information, insight, and confidence needed to help friends and family discover God's goodness for their lives, even in the midst of difficult times.

Led by Pastor Rick Slattery Location: Youth Theater

Women at Midlife: Embracing the Challenges by Jeanie Miley Mondays, 6:00-7:15 p.m.

beginning Sept. 10

Midlife - it’s not a specific age, but a season of change! Midlife is a time of transitions – some welcome and some not so welcome. Relationships and responsibilities are changing as children leave home and aging parents require care or attention. Careers wind down and we may be faced with a loss of purpose or direction for the future. Whether you are struggling with the challenges of the present, mired down by mistakes in your past, or excited about the prospects of the future, this Bible Study is for you. This eight week study will explore what God’s word says about midlife. There is a brief study guide to be completed each week. We will then gather together weekly to share in a time of laughter, learning, and prayer as we support each other as women. This is not a video study, but a time of reading / discussion of God’s word.

Women’s Bible Studies... JOY IN THE MORNING

Breaking Free by Beth Moore Wednesdays, 9:00-11:00 a.m.

beginning Sept. 12 *childcare available

Beth considers Breaking Free her life message. This in-depth Bible study leads you through Isaiah 61:1-4 to discover the transforming power of Christian freedom by drawing parallels between the captive Israelites and the spiritual strongholds in our lives. First released in 1999, this updated edition includes 11 new video teaching messages, along with updated Bible study content and testimonies from women like you who have found freedom from their personal captivity. No matter what life stage you're in or struggles you're going through, if where you are isn't where you want to be, don't stay there. Break free.

Please sign up at the women’s kiosk to participate in the studies.

Childcare volunteers are needed! Please contact Hilary if you would like to serve.

SUNDAY MORNING COMMUNITIES

September Community Offerings

ROCK Community “Chasing God With Three Flat Tires”

Pastor Rick Slattery and 12 “guest” co-teachers will come together to tackle the problems of being a Christian in today’s world from a biblical perspective. Sometimes it feels like we are running on empty when it comes to life, not just our faith. What do we do when it seems that God is on vacation when we need Him most? Come discover the beauty that can sometimes be hard to find in the challenges when we drive our lives toward God. Location: Chapel

ENCORE Community Beginning September 9: A Tour of Israel… Where… When… Why?”

Have you ever wanted to go on a tour of Israel? This class, led by Mike Stevens, will take you on such a tour and it won’t cost you anything. We will study the geographical, topographical, and political nature of Israel which is essential in understanding the scripture. As a result, we will visit the significant cities during the time of Jesus and discover why he chose a particular location to preach some of his most significant sermons. No tour would be complete without understanding the Jewish culture and its significance. Your Bible is the only passport necessary. Location: Fellowship Hall

PARENT / STUDENT CLASS August 26, September 2, September 9, September 16

Our annual combined Parent/Student Sunday School class begins Sunday, August 26 and will run a total of four consecutive Sundays. We will have fun, food, healthy interactions, helpful teaching, and good discussion about where we are headed this year as a youth ministry. It’s a great way for parents to be encouraged and to connect with other parents and youth leaders. Location: Youth Theater

ADULT COMMUNITIES Sunday Mornings 9:00-10:10 a.m.

A special thank you to Helen Walraven who served as our Kitchen Coordinator for 10+ years. We are so grateful for

her faithful service over the years. Helen has resigned from the Kitchen Committee, but our kitchen remains in good hands. Serving on the committee are Anita Auch, Shirley Fournier, Claris Kelly, Jackie Koster, Peg Rempfer, & Cheryl Wenzlaff who will serve together as a team. We encourage you to help them out when you can by serving with them at potlucks, funerals, and any other functions our church has. If you are interested in serving on the kitchen committee, please contact one of the committee members. The Trustees would like to thank all of those that helped out on our work day on August 11. The work that was done has greatly improved the look of our church. What a blessing it is to have skilled and hardworking people willing to dedicate their time to our church.

We had a great time hosting the summer College and Career group studying the ideas and influences that compete with a Christian biblical worldview. About 10-12 folks attended throughout the summer. Most of the young adults that regularly attended have returned to college or have changing work schedules, so the College and Career group will no longer be meeting unless there is interest to continue study through the fall. If you are interested in a young adult bible study in the fall, please contact Kelly (701-527-5833) or Nell (701-527-5832) McPhillips. If there is enough interest, we will reconvene the Christian Worldview study group.
