    5/26KAFMAG 513 January 2008

It has been over two years since the pub-

lication of the rst issue of KAGMAG.

    Although many attempts were continue

the magazine, frequent changes in leader-

ship regularly disrrupted the project. In

fact, no leader could be found to get the

project moving. By the middle of 2006,the project was ofcially abandoned by

its staff, and KAFMAG was spoken of no

more. The projects forum lay dormant.

However, despite the troubles that have

    plauged this magazine, hopefully some

new life may be fed into this dead baby

from the release of this issue.

Although nothing public was ever re-

leased during the time of the project, a few

writers stood up to the plate to contribute

some of their own writings. Several articles

were actually written during the duration

of the teams existence; however, I choseto not put them into this issue because I felt

that they were not sufciently complete

(on which I blame on the understafng of

the team). In addition, some other work

completed by other staff members, such

as the wonderful magazine designs and

layouts of Dan, did not make it into this

    issue.

Regardless, now that you are reading

the second issue, I hope you enjoy what

new effort and life has spurred into KAF-

MAG. This issue has been developed and

put together within a matter of a few days

through a lot of badgering of members

to contribute on such short notice. I give

much gratitude to those members who

took some time out of their lives to add

something to this magazine. I would like to

also throw a thanks out to those who I bor-

    rowed articles from without permission,

potentially putting them into a bad context

(i.e. I stole Rasens post and tried to turn it

    into a article).

As for the future? I am not sure ifKAFMAG will start to follow any release

schedule, less even publish any new issues

any time soon. The life of this magazine is

largely dependent on how much all of you

are willing to contribute on an occasional

basis. Although the original team did have

stafng issues, there was a lack of incom-

ing articles to begin with. I would like

to encourage an environment where the

magazine is not written by its own team

writers but by members like you and me.

Given the free nature that envelopes

this magazine, you do not have to writeabout anime or KAF. As you read through

this issue, you will realize that some other

topics are discussed, ranging from elec-

tronics to politics. As long as your content

is not offensive, it will likely be approved

to be put into the spotlight. And if you are

not sure your idea will pass, feel free to

drop me (or whoever the current editor-in-

    chief is) a message.

    Enjoy the read,

So, what do people have to say about

you? Our reporter, Betabeta, went outto the dangerous streets of KAFC to

ask KAFFERS what exactly they thought

about others. Here we nd out, from the

fruit of her research. Individuals were

selected as they came to mind.

    Although Betabeta was supposed to

write this article, she was unable to meet

the deadline, forcing SK to do her work.

SK is sad. Lastly, remember to take these

comments lightly! No harm or offense is

    particularly intended by this article.

Amatsu A great guy, he is a fun

person to talk to. He is not so random or

    goofy though.

    angelgurl Angelic polygamy-

obsessed KAFFER with the worst connec-

tion on KAF. Her connection is so bad that

she will probably disconnect before you

hit the ENTER key, having been outrun by

    dial-up.

    Asami Relatively unknown KAF-

FER who used to be active, cool, and easyto talk to. Asami tends to run away from

    bad things.

BellaIllusions Full of fun, Bella is

the light at the end of a tunnel (the tunnel

being the bad day, der!). To put it simply,

she is an understanding NUTshell wonder

of fun. Although she be a bit rough, she

makes up by being honest and genuine.Like angelgurl, Bellas Internet sucks, big

    time.

    Betabeta Betabeta is an awesome

promiscuous lady. She is both the best

thing since sliced bacon and a Detective

Conan freak. In addition, Beta is the girl

who is oh so pretty that it B-B-BLINDS

your eyes! People join the chatroom just to

see her there! Her journal is followed like

    someone would read a map.

Blindo He can be very opinion-

ated and yet still stay open to suggestions.

Overall, he is a great friend to play around

and be serious to. Ever want to talk about

signatures? Hes the man [now, dawg].

    Cali-chan Bubbly, British, swim-

ming suit. Cali is so happy and full of life

that you sometimes wonder if British food

has drugs in them! A sweet and kind person,

Cali seem to always be cheerful (you know,

the mood-lifting kind of a person) and fun

to talk and joke with. On the other hand,Cali has this weird obsession with Tony

Slattery and can be extremely moody too.

    DemonshadowRoleplaying gangsta

of love who never disappoints and is happy

all around. He never wants to ruin the

moods of others. However, if you want to

ruin his~ two words: glasses fetish.

    Don NaciRema Camelot

    187757 Complaining, weird guy full

of negative attitude and with the longest

username on KAF. Although he can befun to talk to, Rema usually speaks too

    negatively about almost everything, mak-

ing it hard to relate to. One could say that

he needs a dose of life besides where he

liveshe is very stuck in his idea of life

surrounding only what he knows and not

the rest of the world. However, when he is

not those things, Rema can be a pretty cool

dude, despite being a bit more direct and

    outspoken than most people.

    DrifterOne cannot forget the Trufe

Shufe that he performed! Drifter, a fee-

spirited foot-obsessed foot boy who loves

the foot, he is the chicken man! He does no

care too much about what others see him

as. Chad is a silly little man who loves his

    video games.

    fcoolycooly is a watermelon from

Mars whose life is largely unknown. KAF-FERs nd him delicious and delectable.

    HexMasked. Mysterious. The smex

    Black cat. Army. Uniform. Goggles.

    Inuyashas Best Friend A KAF

murderer, he is fun to make crime plo

with. His signatures rock too. IBF, a thank-

ful, honest, and cool guy, he can talk and

offer input for any conversation. He is thekind of person to invite over for a movie

    and popcorn and some laughs.

Itu Itu is a magical tea-obsesse

person who uses a gray font and can turn

into many things, in addition to being able

to poof-ith. She is the best person ever

    always commenting on stories, writing

and whatever and giving honest input

    ThE PlOT

The plot itself is meticulously developed

and well told. Do not be fooled by the rst

few episodes. You will not be hearing just

about a singers rise to fame; rather, the

story becomes more complete as it evolvesto revolve around Mitsukis ability to

endure all the setbacks she encounters, the

main one being her search for Eichi and the

cure for the malignant cancer in her throat.

The rst half of the 52-part series tells the

aspirations and dreams of each character.

The latter half develops into a more seri-

ous and mature story. This anime centers

mainly around the genres of romance,

comedy, and drama. (Usually I watch those

    Blood Splattering, Reiatsu powerup, sword

clashing animes. Now that says a lot.)

    ON ThE chARAcTERS

    MiTSuKi

The character is voiced by Myco who also

sings all the ending songs. Mitsuki is just

one character in which you want to cheer

her on throughout the whole anime. Her

willpower to live out her life to fullest

makes you just want to watch how it turns

    out. Mitsukis personality and determina-

tion to suceed as a singer denately drives

the storyline and makes it interesting.

    TAKuTO

He is one of the Shinigami sent to watch

over Mitsuki. His desire to help his friends

and act on the his gut instincts is what sets

him apart from most of the characters. Even

though he is fated to help Mitsuki live

out the rest of the year with no regrets and

take her life at the end of her time, he ends

up helping her. I would consider him as the

hero of the story since he helps Mitsuki

    deal with her emotions.

    MEROKO

Gawd. At the very beginning, she was

so annoying. I felt like I just wanted to

punch her out (xD). However, as the story

progressed, I denately saw the maturity in

her develop as the story progressed. As she

sorts through her priorities, she learns what

love really is and how to deal with it.

In general, there are NO bad characters

in this story. Each character is well devel-

oped and relates back to Mitsuki, the main

    character of the story.

    ANiMATiON

I would say the animation is average to

good. There isnt too much for me to com-

ment except for the fact that the character

are well drawn and the mood compliment

the music which Im going to review next.

    MuSic/SOuNdTRAcK

Go buy the soundtrack! Enough said. The

    soundtrack compliments perfectly with the

mood of each scene. The ending songs

sung by Myco, who does the voice acting

too, are some of the BEST songs I have

ever heard. Myco has a very unique strong

voice compared to many J-Pop singers. Her

range and ability to handle almost any kind

of song will be very apparent once you

listen to her songs. Since this is a music-genre anime, I would say that the songs

    even compliments the storys emotions

really well. In fact, the lyrics hold very spe

cial meaning in the story. Heck, Im even

listening to the soundtrack as Im typing

this review. Ive been listening to it over a

month and I just cant stop. Eternal Snow

the 3rd ending song, is the reason I started

watching this anime. After listening to tha

song for a year and a half, the song stil

does not seem old. Myself, New Future,

and Love Chronicle are just some of the

great songs in this anime. The opening

songs are catchy, but not even on the level

    of the ending songs.

    OvERAll

OMFG. Hellspawn. I had to retype this

whole thing after the KAF server lagged

on me. Now putting that aside, it doesNOT matter what anime youre into.

Youll be pleased of the time well spent

watching this anime after nishing it. Itll

give you a nice fuzzy feeling. Compared

to many endings I have seen, this one is by

far the best crafted and well done. Its not

perfect, but most animes have a crappy

ending. This one aims to please. Ive been

somewhat tight about giving ratings since

I dont want to give so many ten out of

ten scores, but this one, I just cant resist,

but just give it a perfect score.

    Sweet Smiley was apprehended last

Sunday for posession of 25 pounds

of illegal narcotics and the evasion

of the police. He was taken into custody

and is now awaiting trial in a few weeks.

His lawyer was available for comment,

stating that Sweets conviction is upon

false pretenses and Smiley asserts that thepolice ofcers planted the cocaine on him

    prior to arrest.

The smiley was found on smiley

    street when ofcers were patrolling

the area by car. Sweets activities with

another smiley appeared suspicious to the

ofcers, and Sweet was requested to sit

down on the sidewalk. Evading capture,

Sweet made a run for it, causing two

squad cars and a helicopter to be called

for backup. The smiley was found on foot

two miles away from where he was rst

caught.Whether the arrest was falsied or

not, this is Sweet Smileys second arrest

involving the illegal possession of drugs.

The future is unclear for Sweet. Should

the jury nd him guilty, he will be facing

at least 10 years of jail time and a ne of

Yes, the special section detailing all

    the games youve already played.

    Since, I like reviewin games,

and, dont necessarily have enough pocket

shrapnel on hand to buy the new games as

they come out, I tend to review games as I

play them, which, works against me; by the

time I get my hands on new titles, theyre

already several months (maybe years) old.

So, lets look over, say... I dont know...

    BioShock?

BioShock, for, those of you who dont

know, was the recently released, story

    driven, single-player FPS juggernaut that

took both the game review and game buyer

world by storm. But, why? It had no multi-

player modes, scantily-clad women, and no

cyborgs in giant, green armor. In fact, on

the surface, feature-wise, its bare and only

presents to you a story mode with three

static difculties and 50 easily achievable

achievements (most of them tied to story-

related events) One also cannot forget the

mundane things such as upgrading your

    character.

But, where BioShock succeeds is its

ability to tell a story well. This sucker

is atmospheric and immersive, and all

whilebest of allit makes you think.

What was that? A mere video

gamethat most evil of a CD in plastic

casesactually presents to you a gripping,

    morality-inuencing story that certainly

puts any recent lm attempt at storytelling

to utter, irrevocable shame? Well, cut your-

self in half, and call yourself a Munchkin!

    Its nally been done.

BioShock rmly plants you in a world

inuenced by the works of author Ayn

Rand, George Orwell, and any other four

controversial writers you care to men-tion. In the underwater, failed utopia of

Rapture, you assume control of a man who

seems to have only been put into his situ-

ation by mere chance. Atlas, a benefactor,

as one could describe him, offers to help

your character through the nightmare he

has managed to let himself slip into. You

accept his offers, assuming that you will

just help him until at least you can escape

    this underwater world.

It seems pretty ordinary at rst, but, as

the tale evolves, youll nd out it is much,

much, more than you thought it was. Theexcellent storytelling is supplemented

    by the extensive character customization

proided by gene upgrades called Plasmids,

which supply your character various at-

tacks and powers, such as ames emitted

from your hand or mind-control powers.

    These customizations grace the games

cover with all their hulking, menacing,

    glory.

However, the gameplay itself is barely

above-average; its fun, but, even with

its multiple ammo types, impressive and

    useful weapon upgrades, and extensive

character customization, it just feels kinda,

been there, might not have done this, if you

    can follow that.

Despite the disappoiting play, the story

    and atmosphere more than make up for it;

this is a rst person shooter that will even

appeal to both the role playing game fan

    and the crack-addict Halo player.

    An inerview wi Kix

We ge dwn and dir wi e an isel By SK89q

Or reporter sk89q sat down with the

    man himself... over KAFC, and

interviewed him in this Down and

    Dirty series.

SK: So, lets start with the basic question.

How did you nd out about KAF?Kitfox: Well, I believe it was originally

through the Os2 Anime section, after Goo-

gling for anime downloads; after a couple

weeks, I looked around the boards and

    signed up. ^^

SK: Kay... so far, what is the best thing

youve experienced on KAF thus far?

Kitfox: Hmm, tricky. Denitely the chat,

most everyone here is fun. ^^ Although the

    roleplaying section is good too.

SK: What do you do when youre not

    KAFing?

Kitfox: I generally write for/participate in

    roleplaying off-site, or listen to music. ^^;

SK: Sounds fun. If you were to create any

word to add to the known English diction-

    ary, what would it be?

Kitfox: Uhm... I have no idea o.o

SK: Hmm... If you were to change any-

thing about KAF, what would it be?Kitfox: Just nd a way of improving the

chat, maybe combine it with the [A/V chat]

somehow? ^^; but then, I dont know how

    itd cope with the lag.

SK: If you were a care bear, what image

would you have on your tummy?

    Kitfox: Hmm... a fox-head sillhouette?

SK: Okay. If you could have only one

music CD ever, what would it be of?

Kitfox: One music CD, eh? ...probably a

mixtape of Wolfsheim and Edge Of Dawn

    I guess.

SK: Now, if you could ask any person any

one question, who would it be and what

    would the question be?

Kitfox: Tricky... I cant think of anything.

    >< Sorry.

    SK: Pepsi or Coke?

    Kitfox: Coke.

SK: If you could be in any anime, what

    anime would it be?

Kitfox: Gravitation for the music and fun,

    or Loveless for the kitty ears. ^^;

SK: If you could become any anime char-

    acter, who would it be?

    Kitfox: Shuichi Shindou.

SK: What anime is that from?

    Kitfox: Gravitation.

SK: Oh I see... What do you think about

    SK and his bean fetish?

Kitfox: Nya~ Sks ne I guess, although

Ive never really seen his bean fetishism in

    action. .-.

SK: Which KAFFER do you look up to

    the most?

Kitfox: Usaki Ikasu, my Whisky~ ^^

SK: So, when Kit needs to have a bite of

something to eat, what does he go get?

    Kitfox: Skittles! ...Always skittle

    @.@

    SK: Dream job?

Kitfox: Keyboard/synth player in a band.

SK: Ooh, that sounds cool. Whats your

    favorite forum on KAF?

    Kitfox: The roleplaying subforums, al-

though I dont go there as often as I usedto...

    SK: Day or night?

Kitfox: Night, means more people are on

because of the time difference from there

    to here.

SK: Sounds reasonable. Hug or kiss? (and

no, not from me >>... from your special

    someone)

    Kitfox: A kiss.

To anyone that has been KAF for a

while, they know that it has far waytoo many features. Most of them are

for fun, but members tend to forget about

    them fairly soon. Of course, this is not odd;

obsession over blinking colored bars for

a month could be a sign of insanity (the

    unfortunate fate of Usaki).

While most of these amusements have

been largely well-publicized, or so for

at least a short period of time, there are a

few that only some members have had the

chance of discovering. These secrets have

    made some rounds through word-of-mouth,

but the general KAFFER population is still

    oblivious to their existences.

    Ron Paul, a Constitutionalist Conser-

vative, has become a real factor inthe 2008 US elections, rising above

his competition with his strict constitutional

policies and rm agenda. As a member of

    congress, Paul has introduced numerous

pieces of substantive legislation during his

term, many more than most members of

    Congress.

According to his website, he purports

himself to be the leading advocate for

    freedom in our nations capital.

    bAcKgROuNd

In his earlier years before politics, Paul

considered becoming a minister with histwo other brothers, but instead elected to

enter into the career of medicine. However,

before Paul could complete his degree, he

answered the call of his nation, serving

in the United States Air Force during the

1960s. While in service, Paul moonlighted

in a San Antonio church hospital near his

base for a mere $3 an hour.

    Rons congressional career began in

the 70s. In the late 70s and early 80s,

Paul represented the state of Texas in the

House of Representatives (19761977,19791985) and became the rst member

of Congress to propose term limits, among

other things. In 1984, Paul, a graduate of

the Duke University School of Medicine,

voluntarily gave up his seat and returned

to his medical practice. He returned to

Congress in 1996 and has since worked torestore the constitution and signicantly

reduce government taxes. As a 2008 presi-

dential candidate, he brings new hope to

    the American democratic system.

    POliciES

His policies stand greatly above theothers. He has never voted to raise taxes,

for an unbalanced budget, for a federal re-

striction on gun ownership (which gives us

the ability to defend our rights), for a con-

gressional pay raise (voting against raising

his own income), taken a government-paid

junket (buying a representative a day out at

a country club to discuss ideas). Neither

has he ever voted to increase the power of

    the executive branch (presidential power),

or for the Patriot Act, nor for letting gov-

ernment intervention take control of theInternet.

Paul made an early stand against the

Iraq war, does not participate in the Con-

    gressional Pension Program and returns

a portion of his ofce budget to the US

Treasury annually. Ron Paul is a stric

    constitutionalista true conservative

If Ron Paul were to be elected, he would

give the government back to its people: the

citizens of the United States of America.

If you want to know more about Ron

Paul, winner of the January 10th FOX

debate, you can visit his campaign website

for moreinformation. If you want to discuss him

and his policies with me, Yoshi, feel free to

send me a private message or to discuss it

    over the chat.

The opinions in this article are notnecessarily representative o those oKAFMAG, KAF, its sta, its members,

    nor its third-parties.

Aaron Russo: Do you think America is

going deeper and deeper into becoming a

    police state?

Ron Paul: Yeah, I think were moving in

that direction, because theres not much we

can do without permission. The absence of

a police state is that people are free, and

if you dont commit crimes you can do

what you want. But today, you cant open

up a business, you cant develop land, you

cant go to the bank, you cant go to the

doctor without the government knowingwhat youre doing. They talk about medi-

cal privacy, thats gone. Financial privacy

thats gone. The right to own property

thats essentially gone. So you have to ge

permission from the government for almos

everything. And if that is the denition of

police state, that you cant do anything un

less the government gives you permission

were well on our way. This is something

that people eventually, I hope, will get sick

and tired of, and say enough is enough.

Often translated as Tale of Saiunkoku

(literally means Tale of the Land of

    Many-Colored Clouds), Saiunkoku

Monogatari follows the travails of Shuurei

Ko. The Saiun government is split into 8

provinces, each named after a differentcolor with purple being located in the

capital as the ruling family. In order of

power they are: Shi (purple), Ran (indigo),

Ko (crimson) [under the guise that red and

blue make purple], Heiki (turquoise), Kou

(yellow), Haku (white), Koku (black), and

Sa (brown). Only the heads of the family

and their immediate relatives are allowed

    to wear the family color.

Shuurei, being the only daughter of

Shouka Ko, the eldest son of the Ko family

is, for all practical purposes, the princess

of the Ko clan. However, after giving uptheir garden and money to the common

folk during the famine brought about by

the struggle for power eight years ago, her

family has fallen on hard times. She lives in

a huge house, with a pond, and what would

have promised to be beautiful cherry blos-

soms, but unfortunately, they dont bloom

anymore. Nonetheless, her house is falling

apart. She shares the living quarters with

her father, Shouka, and the boy he adopted

eight years ago named Seiran, and they

barely have enough money to feed them-

selves much less x up the house.

Shouka has a high ranking position as

    the Head Librarian of the Royal Archives;

however, the pay isnt much, thereby forcing

Shuurei to work as well. She is very skilled

at playing the ehru (a musical instrument

resembling a wooden ladle with a string

stretched between the top of the stick and

    the wooden cup like thing at the bottom;

played in a similar way to the violin). So

skilled, in fact, that people are willing to

pay to listen to her play. Shes a very good

cook and is a determined girl with a verystrong character, which leads her to accept

the job of becoming the emperors tempo-

rary consort and convince him to take up

    his rightful throne.

    iMPORTANT chARAcTERS

Shuurei is a young woman who spends

most of her time either working or teaching

young children in the temple school. She is

the only daughter of Shouka Ko, the eldest

son of the Ko family, so that practically

makes her a princess, however shes unable

to live like one. Her family has fallen on

hard times since they gave their garden,

sh, and money to the starving citizens of

Saiun during the struggle for power eightyears ago.

Ever since she was a little girl, shes

dreamed of taking the Civil Service Exam

and becoming a government ofcial so that

she could help the people. Unfortunately,

women arent allowed to take the exam,

and so reluctantly, Shuureis had to step

away from her dream (though she hasnt

stopped secretly hoping just yet). She gets

a step closer to realizing that dream when

she accepts the job to become Ryuukis

temporary consort and tutor to help him

take an interest in the kingdom. Whilethere, though, she has a near encounter

    with deathsomeone seems determined to

    kill her.

Seiran Shi* is a very quiet person.

He was found and adopted by Shouka,

Shuureis father, thirteen years ago and has

lived with them ever since. He cares about

them more than anything else in the world.

He is about 21 and is very protective of his

adoptive family. He often provides a listen-

ing ear to Shuurei whenever shes got a lo

on her mind, but he doesnt conde in her

as much as shed like. Seiran has vowed

to spend his life repaying Shuurei and herfather for their kindness.

When Shuurei moves to the palace

he became the troubled emperors roya

bodyguard. He is very good at hiding his

emotions, but despite this, Ryuuki eventu

ally gures out Seirans big secret. This

discovery brings them closer together, and

when Shuurei accidentally walks in on

them hugging, she thinks that Ryuuki has a

romantic interest in him because the towns-

people believe the emperor is homosexual

After Shuurei leaves the palace, he returns

to his job of guarding the rice granarythough he will forsake that position when

certain people ask favors of him or need his

    help.

mosexual by almost everyone around him.

    Trauma produced by domestic violence

has caused in him to rarely show emotion.

Seien, the second son, was the only one

who really cared for him. Shouka taught

him basic writing and arithmetic after nd-ing the young prince wondering the Royal

    Archives. Shortly thereafter, Ryuukis fa-

ther died from an illness, Seien was exiled,

his mother passed away, and his other fourbrothers killed each other ghting for the

throne, leaving little Ryuuki alone with no

other choice but to take power. However,

once King, he did nothing, causing manypeople to label him as a useless, stupid

emperor. He, of course, has his reasons,

which start to be revealed shortly after

    Shuurei enters the palace.

These three, among others, peaked my

interest in the series. Though they t anime

archetypes, they are transformed into three

dimensional characters by the plot, which

    provides endless character development as

it progresses. When I sat down to watch the

rst episode, I didnt expect to nd it any

different than other shows in the romanticcomedy category; however, I quickly be-

came enthralled with the story. The setting

is the ctional country of Saiun, whose

architecture and culture resemble that of

ancient China. The opening song, Hajimari

no kaze (Winds of Beginning) sung by

Ayaka Hirahara is an appropriate lead in

to the show, and mixes well with the rest

of the soundtrack. In whole, the music

enhances the ancient setting because all of

it is played with traditional instruments.

A glance at the promotional picture for

the series (full of so many beautiful men!)

coupled with the summary talking about

Shuureis decision to become Ryuukisconsort for six months, immediately led

me to draw the conclusion that the series

would inevitably end as most people

expected Ouran High School Host Club

to end (the main character being forced to

    choose between several impossibly beauti-

ful men practically throwing themselves at

her). Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised

when the series went in the exact opposite

direction. The situation that quickly be-

comes evident is not unique to the series.

In todays world, several countries still

grapple with the issue. Yet, it explores thistopic with out trying to make a political

statement. Its documentation of the state

of affairs of Saiun is almost historical in

nature; the journey documented proves to

be one of the major contentions of the rst

    season.

    The show is not all work and no play;

there are plenty of light hearted scenes to

keep the viewer entertained. A character

I found particularly amusing was the ec-

centric youngest brother of the Ran clan,

Ryuuen. Dressed like a prince, he wanders

from place to place, playing his ute (so

badly that it can cause people to go insane

if forced to listen to it for prolonged periods

of time), and playing cards. He is so pecu-

liar that people distance themselves from

him, but he is actually genius. The hilarity

    surrounding his character typically comes

from his bad ute playing and tendency

to behave as if those around him were his

    servants.

Though the series isnt 100% action,

all the time, every episode, it is very in-

triguing and out of the ordinary. For thesereasons, it has become one of my favorite

shows. The cast is large, yet everyone

    important receives plenty of development.

    Saiunkoku Monogataris second season is

coming to a close. The series was licensed

in 2007 by Geneon Entertainment, and

slated for stateside release in August of that

year; however, with the recent shutdown of

the company, it is unsure of what will hap-

pen to the series in the United Sates.

Online, there is fantasy. We can

    present ourselves to others how

    ever we want without revealing

    any undesirable traits about ourselves

    Extending our imaginations into role

plays and chat rooms, we let ourselves

believe almost anything for a minuteamount of time. This is apparent when

    online relationships begin.

Now, I do not think that an online

relationship can never work, but I know

from rst hand and observation tha

people tend to take an optimistic view in

believing that the person they have come

to care for would not deceive them be-

cause of the strong power of love. While

I agree that love may be a large part o

making a relationship work, I also believe

that those who are involved in most online

dates are blissfully ignorant and naive.I may come off as harsh, but only so

because I know friends that have made

the typical mistake. I have been there to

listen to them during their revelations

about how the person they put so much

time and devotion into ended up being

    someone completely different.

    Establishing an good online relation

ship requires more to begin with and more

to work with than the average relationship

There are four primary aspects to turning

an online relationship into realistic one inthe real, ofine world.

    KEy ONE: AgE

Yes, age. Too many online relation-

    ships involve under-aged teenagers

generally within the age range of fourteen

and seventeen. This is problematic fo

many reasons. At this point, you are nei-

enough to take a relationship from just

forums and chatrooms into the streets for

a real date. Age does have a large impact

on how your relationship will progress.

For one thing, if you are old enough, your

parents cannot stop you from seeing this

person and you will have likely already

have gotten a job to cover the expenses of

    travel.

    KEy TwO: diSTANcE

In reality, attempting to date one person

living in another country is neither smart

nor realistic. Closing the gap of an ocean is

hard and often times a deal breaker. There

is nothing that cannot turn that ocean into

a river at the age of sixteen. Money might

make the crossing easier, but money does

not grow on trees. Being states apart is less

of a challenge, but in the end, it is still a

life-changing decision to be with them.

Being closer in proximity removes much

of the risk and trouble. At a future date, you

may think about making the commitment

to move closer to the person you love, but

it is an important decision whose answer

is most likely no given the cost and risk

    involved regardless.

    KEy ThREE: FiNANcES

    Love does not buy you a plane ticket;

that is not how life works, unfortunately.

Neither will it buy gas or train tickets. Out-

side the Internet, we know and understand

this, but for some reason we start to believeanything when we are talking to someone

online. Finances is not something that can

be forgotten. Undoubtedly, it will cause a

large strain on any relationship. Trusting

your mate to handle the nances is also

troubling. Entering into a new environment

without your own means and relying on

someone else can bring a lot of unneces-

    sary stress.

    KEy FOuR: cOMMiTMENT

This would be obvious to anyone, but

sadly, many times your signicant other

may just not be sufciently committed to

ever take it to the next level. They will

discuss it but may never actually worktowards the goal. Ultimately, this leads to

frustration and a breakup. If you cannot

commit to meeting a person you love, then

how can you commit to making the move?

When you come to realize that you need

more than just love and you decide whether

or not you have the other requirements then

you can decide if youre ready to take the

    risk and make the commitment.

In the end, a relationship is made up

of a lot of things and there are a lot of re-

quirements to make it work out. So many

people online dont think about all of the

things that make a good relationship. They

gure love is all you need. And while love

is a big important part, regrettably, its

not enough. Be smart when online dating.

Know the risks and know that the person

on the other end of the internet connection

may not be what your fantasy believes

him or her to be. Accept responsibility and

reality in a relationship and be ready for

the rough road ahead. In your mind its all

wonderful, but once you log off and go tothe airport to meet them, the reality sets in

    and the real trials begin.

Rachelle and Alan have become the second KAFFER couple to turn their online

relationship into reality and keep it alive. (Austin and Nikki being the frst, married andhappy.) The two frst hooked up over two years ago back in 2005, then moving into

the same apartment a ew months later. The two still are happily together as partners

looking orward to a happy marriage some day.

Mae is an American rock band I

have become fond with in the

    last few months. An acryonym

    for Multi-sensory Aesthetic Experience

(based on a course name that the drummer

took), they t into the piano rock and rock

genres. If you like JRock, this is surely

not for you. They play light music, mix-

ing in a variety of classical instruments.

At rst, I fell in love with only ahandful of songs. Cover Me; Goodbye

Goodnight; Mistakes We Knew We Were

    Making (love the intro background)

Someone Elses Arm; Last Call; and

Suspension were the songs I started with

I never got settled with some of thei

other songs at rst, but now they are

growing onto me too. Anything, Brink

of Disaster, Just Let Go, Paintless, Sum-

mertime, Telescopes, and The Ocean are

some of these songs. Try a listen at these

too; the style varies a bit in these.

Their discography includes threefull-length albums, ve other compila

tions, and one DVD. Samples of their

music can be found around the Internet

Try iTunes or any other music purchase

service to get the tracks quickly.

Who else is a fan on KAF? The only

one I have met has been Rasengandragon

Maybe you will add to the list?

With Itu, there will be no arse kissing or

bull. She is thoughtful, smart, and teneds

to follow through with what she says she

will do. Creative, reads, and cheers up

people. A very exuberant person: joyously

unrestrained and enthusiastic. Handwrittenletter > Email.

Jayu MakushoA bishie who is too

pretty for the likes of mortals. Often associ-

ated with Urahara, Jayu is an inventive man

who has cool ideas to make things more

    fun.

    Jimmyjoesr Guns. Bombs. War.

Jimmy is the man with a plan... too blow

stuff up. The soldier of KAFm he is very

technical, but can have fun when he

chooses to do so. If you pull his buttons*triggers*, he res off the best stuff. Great

    guy to know!

KessiTiny, hyper girl who eats only

sugar for all her meals. She is very random

and always lightens the mood. In addition,

she is unbakeable and tends to breaks

chairs. As her TCG card put so, she likes to

put boys into gay love affairs!

    Kitfox Hyper Brit. Real hyper.

Too hyper... Maybe it is because he never

sleeps? He likes wine, boys, smex, and boy

smex, and some more boy smex.

Mizu-chan A friend of Cali, Mizu

is Yet-Another-Hyper-Brit (I tell you, they

have drugs in their English Breakfast!).

Easy-going (and no, not that kind, you

    pervo!). Sweetheart.

Man on a Mission Best thing ever.

MoaM loves Jojos Bizarre adventure and

    Fist of the North Star.

    Oriana Gayest gay. Kekekekeke.

    *hugs Oriana*

    Platinum Trickster NegiRP. Robot.

P and T and N. Dinosaur riding ninja pirate.

PTN likes talking to KAFFERs in chat and

giving SK lap dances at his pleasing. Being

the fourth Terminator, he is also the proud

creator of KAF Monopoly (almost). Eat

    veggies. Or meat.

RahX Beef jerky. Best person ever.

Very helpful. Wise. Patient. Great person to

talk to. RahX loves cooking and cleaning,

adventure, and is the rst and only person

to nd a wife on KAF. He brings life to

    the chat and KAF with his sense of humor.Austin always adds his input to anything;

hes always positive. Kind and knowledge-

able. Looks like Jesus. Metal Jesus.

Raisurinu He sucks! :0 Rais is a

smart guy, even though none of his posts

show that. He is a relatively unknown RP-

ing administrator who is rarely on KAF.

    Touch Rais, now.

    Rasengandragon Smart man who

keeps his cool; interesting to talk to. In

addition, Rasen is also a half naked guywho is sometimes KAFCs background.

    Patient.

    Rem-chanGrammar nazi. Bouncy!

    RiogiRiogi is an administrator who

makes an awful lot of awkward jokes, but

he is still fun to talk to and he knows his

    stuff. DOTH NOT QUESTION RIOGI.

SaiyukiFG Sexy, sassy, and an a

    around saucy girl.

    sk89q A bean. Canadian bean at i

too. An overly too random weirdo, SK is

    boobs and butts, a lot.

    Twinblades Really nice

    Friendly. Awesome to talk to.

    Usaki Ikasu Promiscuous, smex

man lover who is smex-crazed. Tastes like

a rainbow, but not with Skittles. Usaki is the

man who steals all the men from angelgurl

Indeed, he likes being all smexiful. His

smexiness cant be described with words

In addition, Usaki is Kitfoxs raep-victim

[sic] and an art mastah. Simply, Jeremy is a

cool, chill guy, that is, when he isnt making
