Your hospital has chosen the Ambix act iv pump for you to use. Your nurse will have explainedthe information you need to know for your specific t reatment and the way you need to setyour pump up.
You can always refer to this booklet which supplements the instruct ions given to you by yournurse on how to use your Ambix act iv pump.
We have also produced a quick reference guide for the Ambix act iv pump.

How to prime and load your Ambix act iv giving set
PRIMING THE SET MANUALLY:
You will need to prime your Ambix act iv giving set s lowly.
Close the Ambix act iv clamp.Spike your bag with the Ambix act iv giving set and hang up. 1
2Hold the line taught.3Create an ‘S’ shape with the line.
Open the Ambix act iv clamp to start priming the line. The blue cap on the end will prevent4any leakages.
Close the Ambix act iv clamp when the line is fully primed. Remove the blue cap prior toconnection.

INSTALLING THE SET:
Open the door with the lever.Match the green mark on the Ambix act iv giving set to the green mark on the pump.(Make sure the foot of the clamp is facing outwards).Match the blue mark on the Ambix act iv giving set to the blue mark on the pump.Close the door and push the lever back into place.
REMOVING THE SET:
Stop the pump, by pressing STOP/ ESC.To turn off the pump, you need to pressON/OFF for 3 seconds or more.The pump will count down 3.2.1. off.Open the pump door.Remove the Ambix act iv giving set.Dispose of the set – follow the correct procedure.

How to use your Ambix act iv pump
Switch the pump on1
to choose from volume over t ime/continuous/Press2 intermittent/ramp modes. The symbol relating to
the mode you have chosen will display. For specificmodes refer to the relevant pages.
Start the infusion3
To stop the pump4
Press to retrieve the last volume of fluids infused.5
and hold for 3 seconds to zero the volume infusedPress6 before you start.

Switch the pump on1
Press until you get to the following symbol2
Hold to reset for new infusion.3
Set the target volume. Maximum volume is set at 60 0 ml/ h.4
Set the application t ime. The flow rate will calculate automatically.5

To set your specific mode - Ramp Mode
This mode is used if you would like your fluids administered continuously, with the flow rateincreasing at the beginning and decreasing at the end, if required.
Switch the pump on1
Press until you get to the following symbol2
Hold to reset for new infusion.3
Set the volume.4
Use the top -/ + buttons to switch between the screens:5
Set the total t ime and “UP” and “DOWN” time by using top -/ + buttons.

To stop the pump, hold7

To set your specific mode - Intermit tent Mode
NOTE: This mode is not suitable for use with parenteral nutrit ion
This mode is used if you have been instructed to administer your fluids at a calculated rate.After the dose has been administered the pump stops for a defined period or before deliveringadditional doses required. To show the total infusion duration and remaining volume press.
Switch the pump on1
Press until you get to the following symbol2
Hold to reset for new infusion.3
Use the top +/ - buttons to switch between the screens:4dose sett ings (dos, A), interval sett ing (int, B) and start delay (ds, C).
Set the dose t ime, interval t ime5and start delay.
Set your volume and the6 number of intervals.
Press7
To stop the pump, hold8 for 3 seconds.

Alarms and Safety FeaturesWhen an alarm occurs, the pump will show all symbols (see below).The affected part will flash to indicate the reason for the alarm.
The alarm symbol will flash and indicate that an occurrence has taken place.
Set Insert ion
The set is not inserted correct ly.The wrong set used.
Remedy
Check the posit ioning.Clean the clamp.Use an Ambix act iv giving set.
Pump Mechanism Blocked
Contact Calea Patient Services or the helpline.
Downst ream Occlus ion
The infusion will stop.Check below the pump for the following:Kink/ blockage/clamps/air part icles.
Remedy
Remove the kink/ blockages/clamps/air part icles.
Upst ream Occlus ion
The infusion will stop.Check above the pump for the following:Kink/ blockage/clamps/air part icles.
Remedy
Remove the kink/ blockages/clamps/air part icles.

Alarms and Safety Features
Line Empty
The bag is empty.The set is not fully primed.The air sensor area is contaminated.The infusion will stop.
Remedy
Stop the infusion/Change/Check the bag and Ambix giving set.Prime the Ambix giving set.Clean (see cleaning procedures).
Bat te ries are not charging properly
The pump is plugged in at the mains.
Remedy
Contact Calea Patient Services or the helpline.
Bat te ry is low
From the first alarm you will have 30 minutes of battery power left.
Remedy
Plug the pump into the mains.
Bat te ry is depleted
No external power available.The infusion will stop.
Remedy
Check the installat ion in the holder.Check the contact pins and the pump.Check the cable and connect to the mains.Plug into mains to complete or stop infusion.

Alarms and Safety Features
Door Open
The pump door or lever is open.The pump door is installed incorrect ly.The pump door mechanism is defect ive.The infusion will stop.
Remedy
Close the pump door and the lever.Remove the door and re-hang.Contact Calea Patient Services or helpline.
Target volume pre-a larm
Only available if the target volume is act ive.
Remedy
Be aware that there is only 30 minutes left of the infusionfrom the first alarm.
Target volume achieved
The infusion will stop.
Prevent ive maintenance
Perform for maintenance.

How to clean your pump
Please make sure that you clean your pump before connecting it to you and it is disconnectedfrom the mains.
It is very important t hat you clean your pump
When contamination occurs.At least once a week.
Once cleaned leave the pump to dry for approximately 5 minutes before using.
WARNING:DO NOT SUBMERGE THE PUMP IN WATER.
DO NOT USE IN THE DISHWASHER.
Pump and Holder
Clean using a lint-free, damp cloth or a lint-free cloth soaked in disinfectant.Please dry carefully.Clean contact pins with cotton wool soaked in disinfectant, if required.
