The first two volumes of the Aeronautical Research Council's new series, the Fluid Notion Memoirs, cont,ain extensive bibliographies.

y B. Thwaites and published by the Clarendon Press early in l$O, contains over 800 references, and &a.G.nar Bour~~~~~&ay~e~r~, edited by L. Rosczrhead and due for publication about a year later, contains over 1,000 references. The majority of these references are taken from some 200 journals and periodicals which seem to cover fairly completely the field of incompressible fluid flow.

The editors cf the two books have saved space in their bibliographies by referring to thcsc periodicals in abbreviated form.

Xany of these abbreviations have been taken from the indispensable World List cf Scientific Periodicals, the latest edition of which was F-.spF.--==-"Fy.-=- -w msmbby Buttertiorths in 1932. T‘S0 such List, hovrever, can remain completely up-to-date, and it is not surprising that there are many periodicals connected with the tiver-expanding science of aeronautics which are not yet to be found in the World List, and for which the editors have had to choose suitable abbreviations. As far as possible, these have been chosen in a v?ay consistent with the methods of the World List.

In tirder to remove any possible ambi&ties and to assist those who wish to consult the original works, this Current Paper gives all the abbreviations used, together with the full titles and places of origin. The editors of the two books are encouraged to hope that, in view of its coverage, this list will be of wider value and that the abbreviations which they themselves finally adopted may become generally used by scientists engaged in similar studies.
