From September 2016 we have been offering dementia friendly film screenings. Extending the welcome to all members of the public, we want to create a warm, enjoyable and comfortable atmosphere for those with dementia, their carers and family.

With low lighting, slightly reduced sound levels, people free to move around and come and go as they please, refreshments and a 20 minute interval we hope you will join us as we immerse ourselves in Hollywood classics.

WEST SIDE STORY (PG)

White West Side American gang the Jets are preparing to fight their rivals, the Puerto Rican Sharks. Matters become complicated when Tony falls in love with Maria – the rival gang leader’s sister.

Musical set in the slums of 1950s New York with the soundtrack by Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein. The film won 10 Oscars including Best Picture.

After finding her mother’s diary, bride-to-be Sophie sends wedding invitations out to three men from her mother’s past. Sophie hopes to find her real father so that he can walk her down the aisle on her big day.

Feelgood musical with hit songs from ABBA including Honey Honey, Dancing Queen and The Winner Takes it All. Starring Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and Julie Walters.

WALLACE & GROMIT (U)THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT

Wallace and his loyal dog Gromit must track down the mysterious, fluffy beast that’s been destroying the town’s vegetable plots. With days to go to the Giant Vegetable Competition they need to act fast.

Animated feature of the Aardman favourites, including a star voice cast of the late Peter Sallis, Helena Bonham-Carter and Ralph Fiennes.

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (U)

Jerry is an American World War II veteran trying to make a life for himself in Paris as a painter. Along with his two friends they struggle to find work and Jerry becomes involved with the same woman as one of the friends, unknown to either of them.

A 1950s musical starring Gene Kelly, with music composed by George Gerschwin including I Got Rhythm, S’Wonderful and Love is Here to Stay.

Stan and Ollie are due to deliver a valuable deed to a gold mine left to Mary by her father. When the pair are duped by a vaudeville singer pretending to be Mary (helped by Mickey Finn, Mary’s evil guardian), a caper ensues with them trying to get the deed back.

During World War II on a South Pacific island, Navy nurse Nellie Forbush falls for a French plantation owner Emile De Becque. When Nellie leaves him because of her prejudice against his mixed race children, Emile goes on a dangerous military mission. Nellie begins to regret her feelings of prejudice and hope for the safe return of Emile. Film adaptation of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical. Huge musical numbers include I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair and There is Nothin’ Like a Dame.

Ebenezer Scrooge is a cold and bitter old miser who hates Christmas and exploits his kind-natured employee Bob Cratchit. However, on Christmas Eve Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his old partner Jacob Marley who tells him that three spirits will visit him that night… The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.

Filmed locally, starring George C. Scott, Frank Finlay and Edward Woodward. Will you recognise any of the locations disguised as Victorian London?

Holly Golightly, a New York City socialite, takes an interest in a writer called Paul who moves into the same Manhattan apartment building as her. Paul is a kept man by his ‘decorator’ (a wealthy older woman) and becomes intrigued by Holly. The two become friends and try to find their way in the world.

An iconic romantic comedy based on the novella by Truman Capote and starring Audrey Hepburn. The score is by Henry Mancini and includes the Oscar winning Moon River.
