A Letter from the President I can hardly believe it is March! What a great meeting in February. I am

still getting calls and emails about Sissy Franks’ ethics presentation! The

examples of the programming you have seen this year are the level of pro-

gramming we plan to deliver throughout 2014. I had a great programming

meeting with your President-Elect Jeff Ryan and Conference Committee

Chair, Tracy O’Brien. With the standard set by our predecessors we

pledge to continue to bring you solid programming and not just sales

pitches’ or empty content. Our goal for the remaining of this year and

2015 is to continue to find solid ENGAGING presentations.

The survey results were clear. You want to hear from people just like

you. We hope to unveil the remaining half of 2014 programming this com-

ing month. Please don’t forget the student social which will be held at the

Learning Center for Rapides Parish (LSCRP) on Wednesday, March 19th

from 11am to 1pm. In April, we have Jessica Luparello, a Senior Attorney

with Cleco. She will be delivering a great overview of Social Media and the

Workplace. In May, we have Reldon Owens, the Director of External Af-

fairs at the Bossier Group of Companies and Diamond B Construction. He

will be delivering an engaging presentation on SWOT analysis and how

they can be used not just in your company but in your life.

I also want to take this moment to remind everyone that time is running out if you have not yet registered

for the LASHRM State Conference in Baton Rouge. You can still register now if you go to http://

louisianashrm.shrm.org. They have an exciting line up of speakers and it is such a great opportunity to

network with your peers statewide.

Finally, I want to also invite any that have an interest to serve on your CLSHRM board. We have many op-

portunities for the 2015 year, and now is the time we would like to begin hearing from those of you that

have an interest in serving others, pushing yourself, and being a part of a great team that is helping move

Human Resources in Central Louisiana to the next level. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the

Student Social!

PATRICIA “PAT” LACOUR

About Pat:

From Pollock, LA-After escaping from the rattlesnake capital of the world

where I was born-Sweetwater, TX

Married to Doug LaCour. 2 children and 1 grandson. 4 brothers and am espe-

cially close to sisters-in-law since I never had sisters of my own.

Education:

B.S. in Business Administration and Fashion Merchandising from LSU.

Graduated from the LSU Graduate School of Banking and the Mid-South

School of Banking (Memphis State University).

Served 3 years as a member of the Board of Regents of Mid-South School of

Banking.

Things About Me:

I am willing to try nearly anything. I feel that if you can do it, I can do it and I learn by trying...and making mistakes.

I do needlework - crocheting and sewing - and a few years ago I took some painting classes. I’m not bad with painting

but my drawing is elementary (more like Picasso than Michaelangelo)!

I like to read, usually one or more books each week.

If I could vacation anywhere it would be at home, Disney, Toledo Bend, or more exotic places. On my bucket list I’d

like to take an Alaskan cruise that goes inland to the glaciers and then out to sea to do a bit of whale watching.

I liked every subject in school except for Home Ec. I was a nerd!

If you followed me to lunch daily you would say that Subway was my favorite, but it’s just something to get me through

the day. My favorite dessert is Crème Brulee.

I absolutely hate cleaning the kitchen when I haven’t been the one cooking and making the mess! (Remember...I don’t

like Home Ec.)

If I could meet anyone dead or alive other than Jesus, I would like to sit and talk with some of the US Founding Fathers

like Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, or Benjamin Franklin to get their first hand perspective of the founding of the

US.

If there was an autobiography of my life it would be named “Happy Accidents”!

My most prized possession is the diamond ring from my husband. It’s not hugely valuable, but it’s special.

Employment History:

There is life after 20 years of banking! I have been employed by the Rapides Foundation for almost 19 years serving

multiple roles including Accounting and Systems Manager. I saw a cartoon last year that said “I wouldn’t have so many

bad hair days if I didn’t wear so many hats”. Currently I supervise the financial accounting for TRF and its subsidiaries,

CMAP and The Orchard Foundation; grant administrator (contracting, payments, reporting, etc.); building manager and

liaison for tenants/sub-tenants; security and access systems management; purchasing; and of course HR and benefits

coordinator (this one is most challenging to me because I’ve never been involved with the hiring/firing/evaluation side

at any other time in my career).

Favorite Quote:

“If it’s not in writing, it never happened”

I first read this as a comment from Cathy Ryan in one of Tom Clancy’s books. I think it was Executive Orders.

ANTHONY “TONY” SHORB MURRAY

About Tony:

Grew up in Billings, Montana.

2 Sons: Bailey (13) and Noah (10).

I am the oldest of three boys; my youngest brother is 10

years younger so I feel like I have been a dad most of my

life!

My mom and dad just celebrated 39 years of marriage and

now live in Pensacola. My brothers live in Chicago with

their families.

Education:

Billings West High, Class of 1996

Things About Me:

I was a co-owner of a coffee shop and juice bar “Artspace

Espresso” for 2 years (1994-1996). To this day I will

drink espresso but I hate regular coffee.

My talents/skills are playing piano, SQL programmer,

Computer Networking.

I love music, paintball with my boys, LSU Football, travel-

ing, and traveling to watch LSU or hear music.

Favorite Band: U2

Favorite Movie: Star Wars

My favorite subject in school was History.

If I could vacation anywhere it would be Costa Rica or somewhere warm!

The thing I miss most about being a kid is watching cartoons on Saturday morning.

I love Mexican food - Ninfa’s in Baton Rouge, LA

I hate cutting grass.

If I could meet anyone it would be Pope Francis.

If there was an autobiography of my life it would be named “It’s not failure if you learn from your mis-

takes”.

My most prized possession is any pair of my glasses - I’m blind as a bat!

ST. PATRICK’S DAY FUN FACTS!

The Shamrock: One of the main symbols of St. Patrick's Day, the shamrock, comes from the legend that St. Patrick taught the Irish about the Holy Trinity by creating a par-able around the three-leafed shamrock. The shamrock was significant in pre-Christian Ire-land as a symbol of rebirth and of the three major goddesses, Brigid, Eriu, and The Mor-rigan. Green: Speaking of shamrocks, another major theme around St. Patrick's Day is the color green. The original color associated with St. Patrick was actually blue. In fact, green was long considered to be unlucky: it was said to draw fairies, who would steal away peo-ple--especially children--who wore too much of it. Eventually, though, with the rise of the shamrock as a St. Patrick's symbol, green became the major color of St. Patrick and of Ire-land in general. Snakes: One of the major legends surrounding St. Patrick's Day is St. Patrick chasing the snakes out of Ireland. It's thought that the absence of snakes in Ireland led to this leg-end, but in fact, it's highly unlikely that snakes ever lived there in the first place. Still a fun story, though, if you're not super into reptiles. Guinness: Guinness is perhaps the most popular St. Patrick's drink. Actually, it turns out that Guinness is pretty popular all the time: it's estimated that on any given day, 5.5 million pints of Guinness are consumed around the world. On St. Patrick's day, however, that number more than doubles, topping the charts at an astounding 13 million pints worldwide.
