Black Cat Wear Parts began manufacturing cutting edges inEdmontonAlberta in 1968. In the followingdecadeasmachinesizeandhorsepowerincreased,BlackCatinvestedheavilyinthelatesttechnologyandequipmenttoproducehigherquality,harder,tougher“ThroughHardened”edges. Manyothermanufacturersduring that timewere clinging to theolder technology,makingtheir carbon edges thicker to compensate for the lack oftoughness.Thatdedicationtobeinganindustryleaderfueledthecompany’s growth and continues today. Black CatWear PartsnowoperatesmultipleproductionfacilitiesinNorthAmericaandChina,distributingtheirindustryleadingproductsworldwide.

Edmonton,Alberta,Canadaisthelocationofthecorporateheadoffice as well as a 36,000 square foot manufacturing facilityand a 24,000 square foot warehouse and distribution facility.The Edmonton manufacturing facility is mainly responsible forprocessing heavy construction blades for bull dozers, loaders,excavatorsandscrapers.Thewidevarietyofpartsandlowerrunquantitiesofthesepartsdictatesaflexiblemanufacturingsystemthat is able to process order quantities from 1 to 10 efficiently.Larger run quantities, although less frequent, are also easilyprocessed.

Two additional production facilities are located in Selkirk,Manitoba,Canada.Thelargestfacilityis29,000squarefeetandislocatedonRailwayStreetadjacenttotheGerdauAmeristeelsteelmill.Theoriginal12,000squarefootSelkirkplantislocatedfourkilometers awayonMain Street. These twoplants concentrateonhighervolumeconstructionmachinerycuttingedgesincludinggraderblades,snowplowbladesandcarbideinsertblades.

In2003BlackCatbegantodevelopanofferingofcomplementarycast wear parts to offer a broader range of parts for theirdistributors. Investing heavily in research and development,design, and quality assurance, the company is determined todevelopa“first-tier”productoffering. Therangeofthesepartsgrewquicklyandnowincludesalargevarietyofbucketteethandadapters, ripper teeth, bucket lip and sidebar protection items,bulldozerendbits,halfarrowshapedbladesandsegments,andnumerousothercomplimentarywearparts forabroadrangeofapplications.

In2008BlackCatopeneditsnewestproductionfacility,awhollyowned enterprise with approximately 55,000 square feet ofmanufacturingspace located inSuZhou,JinJiaBa,China. Thefactory isadjacenttothesteelmillthatproducesthefeedsteelused in production. In 2012 Black Cat commissioned a 110,000sq/ftstateoftheartfoundrythatnowproducesawiderangeofworldclassproducts.Twohoursby truck to theShanghaiPort,the China facility offers a competitive source of grader bladesandothercuttingedgesaswellasan inspectionandpackagingcapability for castings. The ability to consolidate these productlinesprovidesBlackCatdistributorswithamuchbroaderrangeofproductsfromasinglesourcewithasignificantfreightadvantagetomanydestinations.
