MATTHEW 9:9-13 (NIV) “As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax

collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ On hearing this, Jesus said, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’”

WELCOME, REGISTRATION and ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE “Behold the Lord” arr. Weber BRINGING IN THE LIGHT

CALL TO WORSHIP: L: Let us gather together in the name of the risen Christ. P: Let our hearts proclaim the joys and wonders of God’s Love. L: Let our lives show forth our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. P: Let our walk through life share God’s light wherever we go. L: And this day let our voices join together in song and praise to God. All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!

HYMN “Come, Christians, Join to Sing” No. 225 CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Prayer of Confession: (In Unison)

Lord, so often we have known Your grace and mercy but we have not shared it. And too often we have received Your accepting love and yet we did not tell others around us about You. O Lord, in our silence we have simply not been the obedient children You would have us to be. Forgive us, Lord, and help us proclaim Your Love for all to hear. In Christ we pray. Amen.

Announcements for August 25, 2013

RENOVATIONS UNDERWAY

The renovation of the Zieske Hall and Fireside Room restroom facilities continues. The project, will take approximately two months to complete. During the construction project, the Zieske Hall and Fireside Room facilities will be closed, and there are

signs around the campus directing you to the restrooms by Souers Hall. Thank you for your patience during this project, which will provide our congregation with clean, functional, state of the art, and ADA compliant restroom facilities. A diagram of the two areas is in Souers Hall.

OPPORTUNITIES

If singing is your thing, we have a place for YOU! With the beginning of a new church year we are recruiting members for both of our choirs. If either one of these groups interests you, contact Sue Kujawski at (623) 935-3411. Chancel Choir is the traditional group that sings for the 8:00 and 9:15 a.m. services. Singers should have previous choir experience. The ability to read music is preferred but not necessary. We are especially in need of tenors and baritones. The Chancel Choir rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 6:45 – 8:15 p.m. and they sing two services per Sunday, three Sundays per month, September – May. Chancel Singers is part of our Praise Team for the 10:45 a.m. service. These singers should have an interest in praise-song and contemporary worship and all voices are needed. The ability to read music is helpful but not necessary. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 7:15 p.m. and we sing at one service per week year-round.

Thank you for the generous donations to the Agua Fria Food Bank! We were able to help make a difference in our community!

MINISTRY CONNECTIONS

We are looking to expand our committee and warmly welcome any contact from those who might be interested. This is a great opportunity to connect members to others, connect yourself, and connect others to God. Some responsibilities that w e are searching for in volunteers include: Outgoing personality – enough that you like to talk to others and not afraid to make introductions (we will introduce you too); want to connect members to different ministries by facilitating information via an email welcome and/or placing a few phone calls to

members weekly or bi-weekly. You will be well versed on the different ministries at The Church at Litchfield Park and be informed on who the membership chairs are. Interested parties, please contact Toni Davies at (623) 363-5474 or [email protected].

“THE STORY”

TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY

Beginning Tuesday, September 10th at 10:00 a.m. in Souers Hall Led by Pastor Jim Butler, the "Greatest Story Ever Told" is more than just a cliché. God goes to great lengths to rescue lost and hurting people. That is what The Story is all about—the story of the Bible, God’s great love affair with humanity. Condensed into 31 accessible chapters, The Story sweeps you into the unfolding progression of Bible characters and events from Genesis to Revelation. Using the clear, accessible text of the NIV Bible, it allows the stories, poems, and teachings of the Bible to read like a novel. Sign up in Souers Hall; book cost is $7.
