Southlake is a very progressive city with continuous construction of retail/service establishments as well as upscale residential . Southlake is just minutes from DFW Airport and less than 30 minutes from both downtown Dallas and Fort Worth . It’s the perfect location for someone who wants to live in an upscale area and needs to be close to the airport or commutes to Dallas or Fort Worth, but does not want to live in a large city . Ranked third by D Magazine in their July 2004 article, Rating the Suburbs, Southlake was only beaten out for number one and two by University Park and Highland Park in Dallas .

Southlake is famous for excellent schools and sports . Carroll ISD was only one of fourteen Texas school districts in 2004 to have an exemplary rating . In 2000-2001, they were 4-A state champions in girl’s cross country, boy’s soccer, and boy’s swimming . In 2001-2002, they were 4-A state champions in boy’s baseball and boy’s swimming . In 2002, they were 5-A state football champions and in 2003-2004, they won the 5-A state championship in boy’s golf . Then in 2004, they won the 5-A state championship in football and were considered by some to be the best in the United States and were even televised on ESPN .

Southlake Town Square is the center of Southlake and has numerous retail stores and restaurants . It was built to look like an “old American downtown” . All the buildings are two-story and looking at them from a distance, they look as though they were built in the late 1800’s . Walking from shop to shop is a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon or a day off during the week!!

Southlake residential is considered upscale for the most part and is home to numerous professionals and business persons . There is not a bad location for homes in Southlake and deciding on a location to purchase a home in Southlake is simply a matter of taste and money, of course . Southlake is known for organized subdivisions that offer various resident amenities, but there are also numerous multi-acre estates with multi-million dollar homes . There are still some stand-alone homes on streets and roads that were once considered “out in the country” . The largest subdivision in Southlake is Timarron and it offers its residents golf, tennis, swimming, and miles of walking paths . But, one should be prepared to pay more for property in Southlake simply because it is considered such a desirable area .

Westlake is very rural in comparison to the surrounding cities and only has a population of about 700 . It is just minutes from DFW Airport and less than 30 minutes from both downtown Dallas and Fort Worth . It’s the perfect location for someone who wants to live in an upscale rural feeling community, but needs to be close to the airport or commutes to Dallas or Fort Worth .

Though small in population, this little town is very progressive with corporate offices and other businesses located here . Westlake is home to Fidelity Investments North Texas Campus, Solana (a high profile corporate campus), Dallas Solana Marriott Hotel, Daimler Chrysler Westlake Campus, and The Solana Club (a 38,000 square foot comprehensive sports and wellness center) . A mall, the Shops at Circle T Ranch, is also planned for Westlake . It will have 1M square feet and be built on 130 acres of the 2,500 acre Circle T Ranch .

Westlake also established Westlake Academy, an open enrollment Charter School that offers a rigorous international curriculum . Also, depending on where you live in Westlake, the regular public school districts are Carroll ISD, Keller ISD, and Northwest ISD .

Westlake residential is considered very upscale for the most part and, like other communities in the area, is home to numerous professionals and business persons . Available homes in Westlake are limited and for the most part, very large and therefore cost more . Westlake has two organized subdivisions, Vaquero and Glenwyck Farms, that are considered very desirable . Home prices in each of these begin at about $1M . The largest of these is Vaquero and besides casual luxury living, it offers its residents a clubhouse, golf, tennis, and swimming, and exceptional dining .

Colleyville is a very upscale community, but has been able to retain its isolated country feel and the quality of life that it brings . Just minutes from DFW Airport and less than 30 minutes from both downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth, that is exactly why Colleyville is the choice of those who want upscale living, but still want to be somewhat away from it all… but not too far away . Out of 53 Dallas/Fort Worth suburbs ranked in the July 2004 edition of D Magazine, Colleyville was ranked number five . Colleyville was also ranked among the top 100 U .S . cities in Money magazine’s Best Places to Live 2005 article as number 40! Only three other Texas cities were on this list and Colleyville ranked above the other two . It should also be noted that the same article named Colleyville the Number 1 place to live in Texas .

Colleyville is in the Grapevine-Colleyville school district and the schools are considered by many as desirable . Colleyville also has a new growing town center west of Highway 26 with upscale shops and restaurants . A new public library is located in this town center as are new luxury town homes . On the east side of Highway 26, there is a Lifetime Fitness Center and a Market Street grocery store .

Colleyville has numerous organized upscale subdivisions, but some are located off the beaten path and one either needs a good map or a guide to locate them . For instance, to drive to new exclusive Tanglewood or established and prestigious Montclair Parc, two of the abundant upscale subdivisions in Colleyville with multi-million dollar homes, one must take roads that are not much better than one that would be found in the country . A charming setting close to the city but with a rural feel . But different from most country roads, along this road are some big estate homes with some acreage along with some smaller older ranch homes . That’s not unusual for Colleyville because like Southlake, there is no bad location and it is not unusual to see multi-million dollar estates next to 1960’s ranch homes . Colleyville offers a casual sophistication that is hard to resist .

Keller is the largest in population of the area cities and is very active with a great deal of residential new construction . On one of end of the building spectrum, there are affordable homes being built by chain builders and on the other end, there are million dollar homes being built in an exclusive new subdivision . This new subdivision, Manors of Waterford, is the first in Keller to build million-dollar plus homes in an organized subdivision . This is not surprising because Keller is just about 20 minutes from DFW Airport, less than 35 minutes from downtown Dallas, and less than 20 minutes to downtown Fort Worth . And, of 53 Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs, Keller was ranked fourteen by D Magazine in their July 2004 article, Rating the Suburbs .

There are numerous organized subdivisions in Keller that have various amenities . The largest is Hidden Lakes and offers a clubhouse, three recreation centers with swimming pools and play grounds, and soccer fields . Portions of this subdivision are located beside Sky Creek Ranch golf course with some homes backing to the golf course .

Keller has a sought-after school district with 27 total campuses and more than 20,000 students . Because of the continuous population growth, they just broke ground for four more schools and will start another during the 2006-2007 school year . Keller also recently built a new town hall, municipal service center, a recreation and aquatic center, and they expanded the police and municipal court facility .

Keller’s old downtown area, now called “Old Town Keller” is the location of numerous mostly locally owned business establishments . These businesses are in the 100 and 200 blocks of Main, Hill, Elm, Vine, Olive, Lamar, and Keller Parkway . All but Keller Parkway are original street names having been named in 1881 as a part of the original 40 acre town site .
