A GUIDE TO
HYDROSEEDING
What is
HydroSeeding
?
HydroSeeding fuses seed with fertilizer, lime, biostimulants, polymers, tackifiers, and other additives.
These elements are then mixed with water
and hydroseeding mulch.
The resulting mixture is sprayed onto the
ground to form vegetation and
control erosion.
Benefits
- Less germination variance
- Reduced labor costs
- Excellent erosion control
Applications
- Athletic Fields- Pasture Mixtures- Native Grasses
- Wildflowers- Roadside Mixes
How HydroSeeding
Works
Mulch is the key to hydroseeding success.
- It stimulates germination.
- It prevents seed dormancy.
- It stops erosion.
HydroSeedingMulches
Several Types of HydroSeeding Mulches
exist in the market.
- Paper Mulch- Wood Fiber Mulch
- Wood/Paper Blend Much- Pourable Mulch
- Straw Mulch- Cotton Fiber Mulch
Factors Determining
The Ideal HydroSeeding
Mulch
- Price- Application
- Local Availability
It typically comes in 40-50 pound bales.
Many require a HydroSeeding/
HydroMulching machine
to break it up.
Jet Agitation vs. Mechanical
Agitation
Deciding between these two
is a major decision to make when purchasing a
HydroSeeding or HydroMulching machine.
Jet Agitation Systems
Jet Agitation systems use a centrifugal pump to mix and spray mulches on a HydroSeeding machine.
Strengths
- They are very simple to use.
- They are inexpensive
Limitations
- They were only designed to mix one type of mulch.
Paddle Agitation Systems
Paddle Agitation systems use
a shaft with steel paddle attachments.
Strengths
- They can mix any type of mulch.
- They can mix thicker slurries
than Jet Agitation Systems.
Limitations
- They are more expensive
- They are more complex.
