What Funding Boards Exist?

•Dean’s Fund▫Sponsored by the Office of Dean of

Students▫Fund up to $400▫Based on your application, there is no

meeting or presentation for this funding board

▫2 CORE consultants sit on this board▫Deadline to apply is on the campus

organizations website.

What Funding Boards Exist?

•Health Education Center▫Will fund up to four $750 grants to

students interested in designing, planning, and implementing an AIDS/HIV prevention program.

▫Application materials are available in the Health Education Center (HEC) or at www.health.uci.edu

▫App’s must be turned into the HEC office by December 2, 2009

What Funding Boards Exist?

•Community Service Funding Board (CSFB)▫Sponsored by CSA (Center for Service in

Action)▫Funds up to $150▫Available for students org’s that

demonstrate plans for hands-on community service projects or programs

▫A rep. must be present at the next CSFB meeting following the submittal deadline

•Multicultural Programs Committee (MPC)▫Demonstrate a multicultural component in

the event- sponsored by the cross cultural center

▫Funds up to $200▫A rep. must be present from the

organization at the next MPC meeting following the submittal deadline

What the Funding Board Considers•Number of undergraduate students

benefiting from the event

•Location of Event

•Whether it can occur without allocation of ASUCI funds

What the Funding Board Considers•Degree the undergraduate

club/organization has attempted to fundraise for the event

•The total amount requested

•Whether it is a new or traditional program

Some Important Information

•First Come, First Serve Basis

•Have between 1-3 representatives present at the interview

Some Important Information•Fundraising Events receive funding on a

loan-grant basis

•Turn in receipts within 60 days of the event

•The event has to be open to ALL UCI STUDENTS

• If there are any changes in the event proposal, immediately contact the Funding Board

Funds will be given for…

•Publicity

•Equipment Rental

•Facilities/setup

•Honorarium*

•Entertainment

Funds will not be given for…

•Political Campaigns

•Programs conducting religious services

•Internal Club Costs▫Banquets▫Retreats▫T-Shirts▫Etc…

Funds will not be given for…

•Outreach Programs/Events

•Off Campus event, unless there is no viable facility on campus

•Event with alcohol

•Philanthropic event when money is given directly or indirectly to an organization

Things to Consider

•Only up to 25% of the funds allocated can be for food

•At least 75% of the people at the event has to be UCI Students

•ASUCI doesn’t control content of event and supports freedom of speech within an academic context

When Funding Request is rejected•First talk to Student Program Funding

Board about why the request was rejected and attempt to appeal

• If denied, talk to a Legislative Council Member and have him/her sponsor a legislation to appeal

•The legislation must pass by 2/3 approval with approval of Executive Cabinet

Fund Misuse•The Funding Board can freeze the allocated

funds of the event, if the funds were not used in accordance to the original event proposal

• In the case that the funds are frozen, the funding board will notify the program’s representative

•The program representative can appear before the funding board and explain the fund misuse.

Fund Misuse• The board will than make a decision regarding the

event after the representative has explained the situation

• In the case that the funds stay frozen after the explanation from the event representative, the organization representative may appeal to Legislative Council, and have a Legislative Council Member sponsor a legislation to appeal the freezing of funds

• Depending on the severity of the misuse of funds, the funds may be returned to the funding board, as well as the possibly of barring from the organization to apply for Student Program Funding Board Funds for the reminder of the academic year

What happens after

•All ORIGINAL receipts must be turned in within 60 days of the event

•All unused funds will be transferred back to Student Program Funding Board Funds

•Complete a evaluation form about your event and turn it in to Student Program Funding Board no later than two weeks of the event
