Exchange studies can be very challenging, so
selecting the right university is very important.
Choosing Romanian-American University in
Bucharest means getting high quality studies in an
international university, a wide range of classes
and courses in English, possibility to meet people
from various countries, living in a wonderful city,
called “Little Paris” – Bucharest, travelling around
the beautiful Romania and much more.
Every year we are delighted to host students from
Europe and all over the world and provide them
with the highest quality of education and the best
Erasmus experience.
Romanian-American University was founded in 1991 by it’s
first rector Ion Smedescu. Throughout the years RAU gradually
improved and expanded. In 2002 the University was certified
by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher
Education and received a “High Confidence” rating. It was
also listed in the “University Ranking” research made by
famous German company Kienbaum Management
Consultants in cooperation with “Capital” magazine as the
“Best University in Romania”.
University’s mission is to promote the educational values of
the American academic education given the rich traditions
of the Romanian education. RAU has partnerships with
American Universities, American professors often come to
RAU to teach. Moreover, every year International Summer
School for American and Romanian students is organized
in RAU.

Dormitory is a modern tall
building with 150 rooms. It
is connected to university,
so students don’t even
need to go outside to get
to classes. Internet
connection is available in
each room and there is a
lounge area with a TV in
each floor. There are
three and four people
rooms that cost 100
EUR/month/person and
90 EUR/month /person
respectively.
Canteen is the connection
point between the
dormitory and the
university. It serves
traditional Romanian and
international food for
affordable prices. It also
has a lounge area with
sofas and TV.
If the canteen is closed for vacation or you just want to try
something else, there are several other places near the
University to grab a bite:
The canteen of the Agronomic University – cheap traditional
Romanian food;
Restaurant “18” – serves “all you can eat plus a drink” buffet
during the happy hours (25 RON);
Restaurant “The Gate” – for pizza and pasta lovers for
“student” prices;
There is also a grocery shop “Mega Image” on the same street
as the University.
University has a reading room with English and Romanian
books related to subjects taught at RAU. There is also a
computer room where students can do online research in a
quiet environment or just use a computer if they don’t own
one.
The aula is the biggestroom in the University,used for officialceremonies, concerts,theatre plays, moviewatching and guestspeakers. It fits 450people.
The fitness centre has
modern equipment, sauna
and solarium. Ping pong,
Cangoo jumps and aerobics
are also taking place here.
RAU students get discounts.
Unlike most of the
universities, RAU has a
small chapel inside the
building which students can
visit when they need peace
and quiet. It has an altar
and a reading room painted
with beautiful frescoes, but
no ceremonies are held
here. Thus, people with any
religion are always greeted
here by a priest that also
speaks English.
Every semester RAU
organizes around 10
intensive courses taught by
foreign professors. These
courses last 1-2 weeks for a
few hours every day. In the
end students are awarded
with the certificate of
completion and 2-5 ECTS
credits.
Every year RAU organizessummer schools on differentsubjects where RAUstudents are joined by agroup of foreign students.Summer schools take placein RAU or other universitiesor even countries.
This center organizes conferences,
debates, seminars and summer
schools with guest speakers that
represent well known companies or
universities in the world.
It is an independent training facility
where a courses of IATA/UFTAA
Foundation & EBT are taught.
They are designed for the next
generation of specialists in travel,
tourism and aviation industries.
It is a place where visitors can get familiar with specific
Japanese elements – both traditional and pop-culture. The
objects in this library (books, CDs, etc.) were donated.
Everyone is welcome to contribute to the collection of items
as well.
It was opened in 2008 by the RAU and Microsoft Corporation. In
this center the academic teaching is balanced with the demands
of labour market concerning the IT field. Here students meet
and develop their abilities of working with high technology
through the online Microsoft platform.
It consists of 4 different
centers:
Romanian – Japanese
Studies Center “Angela
Hondru”;
Romanian – Chinese
Studies Center;
Romanian – Korean
Studies Center;
Romanian - Azeri
Studies Center.
Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Azeri language courses with native teachers;
culture, history, clothing, “ikebana”, “taiko”, tea ceremony and Japanese movie history classes;
Japanese business environment courses, summer schools, conferences, seminars, festivals, concerts and other events;
Internships in Japan, Korea, China and Azerbaijan.
Students club is an
organization that aims to create
an enjoyable academic
environment for the students of
RAU. It organizes trainings,
work-shops, charities and
parties.
Tourism club is called “Travel Mates”. It is
a group of students led by a tourism
professor that organizes trips around and
outside Bucharest, participate in projects
and fairs related to tourism, organize
events and conferences.
To apply to exchange studies all students have to fill theforms listed below and send them by post together with 3 IDtype photos (needed for student ID and other documents):
1. Application form for studies;
2. Europass CV in English;
3. Learning Agreement;
4. Application for accommodation (if needed).
The Office for European Programmes will review thereceived documents and selected students will get theAcceptance Letter and signed Learning Agreement. Theywill also be provided with all the information needed for theirarrival by e-mail. After that students will only need to decideon the form of travelling and pack their bags!
