A good day for Mycology!

According to ResearchGate,

Dr. Cathie Aime was

acknowledged as the researcher

at Purdue with the most reads of

M.S. and Ph.D. Graduates Chao Cai, Ph.D. Yen-Ju Chen, M.S. Trevor Stacy, M.S.

Welcome our new Graduate Students to our Department!

Ben Westrich is a Master’s student under Dr. Bryan Young. His research

will focus on the evaluation of various herbicide programs to be used in

an MGI soybean system with emphasis on controlling populations of

giant ragweed (Ambrosia trifida) that is either resistant or susceptible to

acetolactate synthesis-inhibiting (ALS) herbicides. Currently under

Syngenta’s development, MGI soybeans are tolerant to preemergent

applications of mesotrione and isoxaflutole and post emergent

applications of glufosinate. The goal of his research will be to determine

an effective herbicide program to be used in MGI soybeans and develop an increased

understanding of the mechanisms of ALS-resistance in giant ragweed.

Ryan Hockemeyer has joined the department as a PhD student during

the summer of 2018. He will be conducting his research under Dr.

Leonor Boavida’s supervision. His research will include characterizing

functional role of tetraspanin proteins in sexual reproduction in

Arabidopsis thaliana.
