Textile materials for motorcycle use are mainly polyamide (nylon) or polyester.

The smallest component is the filament, spun to a thread and then used in the weaving process.

The weave usually has no stretch. Lycra, a stretch fibre, can be mixed into the weave, but the fibre influences the strength.

The melting point for these materials lies around 240º- 260º C. Frictional heat after a fall will, in cases, exceed these temperatures, depending on the underlying surface.

The seam design and its thread have less importance, because the material is worn down before the thread.

Aramide fibres (Kevlar), heat resistant up to 500º, should be usedin a high concentration (90-100% content) to be effective.

Textile materials are mostly dyed in baths. The thread, too, can be dyed. Embossed patterns are mostly done on polyesters.

Textile garments are more suddle to use and easier to maintain.

It is important to have the right size, to allow the protectors their proper position. The customer should try the riding equipment together with what he/she usually wears underneath. Most textile clothes can be washed at 40°. Remember to remove the protectors. No rinsing products shall be used with functional membranes. The garments can be ironed after washing, to activate the impregnation. Washing temperatures should be checked against the information on the label.

Textile garments should be impregnated after every third washing to keep moisture out and dry quicker.
