TAILOR MADE SOLUTIONS

POWER PRODUCTION AND STEAM GENERATION FROM ALL KINDS OF FUELS

Leipa | Germany

AE&E provides a broad range of proprietary technologies based on numerous patents. Advanced technologies are available for the utilisation of many solid, liquid and gaseous fuels. TECHNOLOGIES FOR ALL KINDS OF FUELSSTEAM GENERATORS

With a broad range of proprietary technologies AE&E is able to offer first-class solutions in the

energy business. No matter the fuel source, suitable combustors and boilers are available

for most of the traditional fossil and also renewable fuels.

Fluidised bed boilers Fluidised bed combustion is characterised by thorough mixing of the fuel in a dense cloud of heated solid particles under control-led temperature conditions. This excellent mixing leads to improved heat and material transfer during combustion allowing various fuels to be fi red simultaneously in the same boiler. A wide variety of coals can be combusted, as well as clean biomass and many other forms of fuels, such as biofuels, waste wood, sawmill residues and green wastes.

AE&E has successfully designed and built fl uidised bed combus-tors for Refuse Derived Fuels (RDF) and developed a special Copeland reactor for thermal treatment of industrial and sew-age sludges.

The general advantages of our fl uidised bed systems are> High fuel fl exibility> High burn-out rates > Naturally low emissions> Excellent system availability and long continuous operation

periods> Minimum maintenance costs

AE&E off ers 4 types of fl uidised bed technologies, distinguished by capacity, fuel and the industrial application.

AE&E utility-size circulating fl uidised bed boilers (CFB) focus on the generation of highly effi cient power and heat on an environmentally friendly basis in the upper unit size range.

AE&E is proud to possess a long proven track record for the combustion of a wide range of fossil fuels. Almost all solid fuels can be fi red economically including:> High ash coals (lignite and bituminous) > High moisture lignite> High sulphur coals (e.g. pet coke)> Low volatile coals (e.g. anthracite)

In addition to the economical use of diffi cult coals, a reduction of the plants carbon footprint due to co-incineration of biomass is also possible.

Fluidised Bed Technology

AE&E’s refuse derived fuel fl uidised bed boilers is the perfect solution for industries who require a technology for the combustion of high calorifi c residues. Refuse derived fuel (RDF) is produced by processing municipal solid waste, it consists largely of high calorifi c residues of municipal waste such as plastics. This unique fuel however presents several special challenges for the boiler design due to high content levels of heavy and non-ferrous metals, high chlorine levels and a high amount of inert coarse particles.

Special features:> Adiabatic combustion chamber> Radiation pass and horizontal back pass> Bed material heat exchanger

AE&E’s development and experience with RDF fi ring in fl uidised bed boilers extends back to 1995, with operating plants in Germany and Austria. AE&E’s boilers are designed to generate steam using only RDF fuel, however full load can also be achieved with a backup fuel such as coal or fuel oil.

Industrial Steam Generators

AE&E is your best choice for combined cycle solutions AE&E has full turnkey EPC contractor capabilities and is specialised in providing solutions which are independent from gas and steam turbine manufacturers. AE&E provides the best configuration with respect to the customers key requirements such as price, efficiency and availability. Heat recovery steam generators of AE&E proprietary design are also available.

Advantages of combined cycle power plantsNatural gas burnt in a gas turbine generates electrical power in a generator coupled to the turbine. The heat content of the exhaust gas is then used to generate high pressure steam in a heat recovery steam genertor. Driven by this steam, a steam turbine provides additional power and allows extracting steam for district heating or other purposes. This process achieves higher effi ciencies and lower fuel consumption.

EFFICIENT ENERGY SOLUTIONS

GAS TURBINE APPLICATIONS

AE&E is specialised in tailor-made solutions for gas turbine applications

that meet our customers‘ needs.

Gas turbines in the range from 40 to 170 MWe are frequently used by the industry as well as public utilities for the combined local supply of heat and power at efficiency rates above 85%.

AE&E provides intelligent solutions adjusted to the project specific requirements for the supply of power and heat.

Conversion open cycle to combined cycle In order to improve plant efficiency and reduce emissions, existing gas turbine plants operating in open cycle may be converted into highly efficient combined cycle plants.

AE&E know-how for overall process heat balance and turnkey design enables us to offer you state-of-the-art modernisation of such existing facilities.

Topping cycle applicationGas turbines may also be used to boost the capacity, increase the overall efficiency and improve the emission balance of an existing conventional power plant. In this case the heat of the gas turbine exhaust gases is used to preheat feed water or the gases are directly used as an oxygen source for the main process replacing part of its combustion air. AE&E reference plant of Weisweiler is an example for such application.
