1. What happens to a dream deferred? What happens to a dream deferred? is clearlyDeferred: answered with nothing but more questions. Themeans to put of dream which he refers to is a goal in life, not aor postpone.dream experienced during sleep, but rather thegoals they have set out for themselves and wishto accomplish. The poem does not choose orassign a dream to the individual or group, butleaves it up to the reader to decide what theyfeel is important to them. Nevertheless, thespeakers position is clear that any importantdream or goal that must be delayed can haveserious negative affects. 2. Does it dry up, Like a raisin in the sun? This Simile of a dream as a raisin makesme think about the changes that might Figurative Language: occur to a dream if it is left alone too long. Simile- a figurative A raisin is already dry, As we all know a speech making araisin is already dried, if it is left out in the comparisons of two sun for an extended period of time it will unlike things using likebecome hard and tough which would or as make it much harder to enjoy. Thus, if adream is left to wither or is unused itcould shrivel away to something that is nolonger useful or capable of being enjoyed. 3. Or fester like a sore, And then run? This clarifies about the pain that is feltwhen you are injured. This line means thatthe dream could become irritating like afresh sore that you wish would dry up so it Fester: meanscan heal, but instead lingers and runs. to form pus; generatThe uncompleted dreams could become e purulent matter; sfrustrating and the external wound would uppurate.be a constant reminder of the things youhave not yet attained. The line fester likea sore illustrates the exasperating andslow healing process the body mustundergo in order to recover properly. 4. Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugarover, like a syrupy sweet? If you leave pancake syrup or honey unused for several months, and you go back to it after a while, you will find that there is crusty accumulation on the top of the bottle and the contents are no longer usable. That is why you should savor and protect your dreams so they do not become old, sour, and stiff. They should be preserved properly so that they remain obtainable. If you leave something out for to long, you might think that its no use anymore so you will just eventually put it on a back burner. 5. Maybe it just sags, like a heavy load. This line advocates that not followingthrough with your dreams could weighyou down, which would be anotherdamaging effect. It implies that maybeyour dream sags, like when a person iscarrying something heavy, causing themto move at a sluggish pace. Thisunhurried pace could lead to clumsiness, which could cause the load to appearheavier than it really is. 6. Or does it explode?Explode this is a powerful word in thestatement which creates an image of abomb that could cause a great deal ofdestruction. This idea is the mostdevastating effect of not accomplishingyour dream because not many things areuseable after an explosion. This proposesthe idea that if a dream is postponed toolong it would eventually turn into a bomb. This explosion could potentially causemore damage to the person than if theyhad attempted to accomplish the dreamand failed, due to the fact that it couldnever be mended back together. After adream has been shattered it is no longerachievable.
