Americas in the 19th century

The Chinese were very poor in the 19th century and when they heard the promise of gold in California they took the chance by coming here.

Most of the Chinese that came to America did not do well but most of them had the opportunity to open a restaurant or start a business.

had a difficult time.

New states were added rapidly.

America became a place for people who were looking for a new start.

In Latin American elites concentrated on claiming land in the Americas for farming ranching.

The little Ice Age

• The Little Ice Age had a lot of affects in the world.

• It was cold but unlike the previous Ice Age.

• The Little Ice Age lasted from the 16th-19th century.

• The Little Ice Age killed millions of people.

• The troops of Napoléon suffered great losses because of cold weather after invading Russia.

America wanted access to ports but the president did not want war.

The Louisiana territories included large amounts of land that now is several of states.

In 1682 Louisiana is claimed in the name of fame and its considered a worthless piece of land.

In 1832 prince Maximilian Zu Wied embarked to explore the west.

He documented his travels like no one had done it before.

Thousands of samples and artifacts were collected.

But much of what they documented no longer exists.

The battle on Tietam happened on Sep 17,1862.

Between 6,300 and 6,500 Americans lost their lives and 15,000 were wounded.

In 1862 it appeared that the south was winning the war between the states so the union started drafting more men to fight

9000 men were injured the first day General Mc Clellan is to slow to give orders.

South is willing to sacrifice slavery to in list black officers.

Days after the battle Lincoln issues the anticipation to end slavery.

Was placed in command of the Potomac army when he was 34 years old.

Officers doubt Maclellan’s ability to lead.

He brought the final blows and the final surrenders to the confederates.
