The MTX Car Audio productsare engineered with true cham-pion spirit. MTX amplifiers werethe very first amplifiers to be cer-

tified by the technical wizards inthe Autosound 2000 Test Labs.Ever since they were introduced, they’ve won hands down in everycomparison of performance ver-sus price. (Ha! We laugh in theface of the status quo!) And MTXproducts have been winningAutoSound Grand Prix Product of

the Year honors all through the90’s.

That’s why, when we are readyfor product development advice,we go to the experts – IASCAand world champions. The win-ners, who dominate the car audiocompetition scene. They talk. Welisten. And the results are goingto blow you away. High perfor-mance mono-block amplifiers.Subwoofers that’ll dare you tohurt them. Designed with thelatest in engineering softwareprograms. Very cool.

To make sure that every MTXamplifier meets or exceeds itsspecifications, we run like a zilliontests before they ever make it outthe door.

And just to show you howserious MTX is about goingbeyond the ordinary, we put T-shirt or a cap inside everyThunder or Blue Thunder ampli-fier. (Now how cool is that!)

to create top-notch, in-your-face ultra-clean car audio systems, winning isn’tenough. Pushing the limits is what separates champions from the ordinary.

In the race Three different lines of amplifiers, all made in MTX factories inUSA. Easy to say it, much more difficult to do it. Some of you willprobably ask himself: “why?”. Read this small guide, and you willunderstand it. You will see how carefully matched these amplifiersare to your varying requirements for power and features.

One of the firstthings you’llnotice aboutthe new BlueThunder ampli-fiers is how coolthey look. You see,we have quite a legendto uphold in these products.AutoSound Grand PrixProduct of the Year for 6consecutive years.Dominance in car audio competitions (Blue Thunder hasbeen the amp of choice in the MTX Thunder ForceMustang, that tours the country on a “trophy round up” inIASCA competitions). We’re manifesting the championshiplegend in the look of these amps. They are born to win inevery competition.

1. Heatsink—New aggressive butsleek look heatsink. A drop-dead gor-geous, tinted-gray heatsink with anelegant, semi-gloss finish. And thebright blue LED completes the wholepackage (we’ve had some complaintsthat the LED is too bright -- our res-ponse is, “if it’s too bright, you’re tooold!).

2. The Circuit Board— We start with a raw circuit board, andadd each of the components. Many components are insertedusing a high-speed auto-insertion machine, for consistencyof manufacture and high reliability of the product. Largerparts are inserted by one of our trained technicians. To besure your amplifier delivers the power you demand, we useonly the finest components. Like low impedance, high powertransformers, for cooler operation. And we use a patentedPWM MOSFET Switching Power Supply, for excellent sonicreproduction. The larger output MOSFETS ensure reliabilityand performance. On the Blue Thunder Amplifier CircuitBoard we even use a new technique that actually “floods” thecircuit board with copper, for substantially higher currentcapability, lower distortion, and increased reliability.

3. The Birth Certificate – each of the Blue Thunder amplifiersis tested to make sure it meets or exceeds its rated specifica-tions, and our technicians sign the Certified PerformanceCertificate.

Four ChannelAmplifierThe Thunder4300X 4-channel amplifiers offers enhanced system design flexibility.

The front and rear crossovers are 18dB/octave, continuously variable between 50Hz and 200Hz high pass orlow pass, giving you several options in setting up your system.

The new symmetrical power supply allows for better ther-mal distribution.

The “sum output” jacks on this four-channel amplifier providea line level summed output of the right front/right rear and leftfront/left rear input signals. This output is typically used todrive an external subwoofer amplifier.

Four of the channels feature an18dB/octave Butterworthdefeatable and continuous-ly variable crossover (50Hz- 200Hz). The front channelhas a 40x frequency multi-plier (50-200Hz/2000-8000Hz).The fifth channel is a dedica-ted, class D subwooferchannel, with an 18 dB/octavelow-pass crossover(Butterworth, continuouslyvariable, 50-200Hz).

Class D is an important classi-fication in the amplifier world(and what a zany world it is).Class D means, quite sim-ply, more power, used moreefficiently. Your power goesto driving speakers, not toheating up the heat sink (if youwant excess heat, build a fire.)The 5400 also features the EBCPort (external bass control) forfast bass adjustment.

Two ChannelAmplifiers

Thunder amplifiers are known for superiorperformance, low to non-existent noise, and really easy installa-tion. Now we’ve added some other goodies tothe list:

18dB/octave, continuously variable crossover (onThunder250X, Thunder275X, Thunder2150X, andThunder2300X) with reverse outputs. For example, when you havethe crossover set to low-pass, you have a high-pass output. This makesit much easier to connect multi-amplifer systems.

Symmetrical power-supply (on Thunder2150X and Thunder2300X) dis-tributes the heat evenly across the amplifier. This makes it more reliable(meaning, it plays louder).

External Bass Control (EBC) port (on the Thunder2150X andThunder2300X) lets you adjust the bass from your seat with the optionalEBC unit.

Individual Gain Controls to center up the soundstage.

Giant MOSFETS (we’re not exaggerating – they’re huge). A larger MOS-FET means power supply stability, and a more reliable product.

8 Volt RMS Input - This large signal capability allows for better integra-tion with high voltage output source units, increased dynamic range, andbetter Signal-to-Noise ratio in the audio system.

Continuously Adjustable Thunder EQ bass boost, centered at 40Hz. Toseverely boost the low-end, and the attention you get from other driversand innocent bystanders.

Unique Split Shield bottom plate design, reduces electro-magneticinterference, to improve signal-to-noise ratio and reduce distortion. Thisdesign is so hot, we patented it so others can’t leech off our genius.(Patent # 5,521,792)

The Thunder225HO is alow impedance, High-Output amplifier. It’s whatyou need when you wantpower, and lots of it. Withindividual gain controls forleft and right, and 2 sets ofRCA connectors, thisamplifier has one characte-ristic that sets it apart fromothers in its class – it deli-vers extremely clean

sonic performance.

Common Technology Platform

We called the LSX1 and LSX2 “Large Signal Crossvers” because of theirability to accept up to an 8 volt RMS input signal for integration withhigh voltage output source units or line drivers. This means noise-freeperformance.18 dB/octave slope for greater protection to midranges and tweeters bydecreasing overexcursion at low frequencies. Continuously adjustable crossover points, for extreme flexibility.Wire harnesses for speaker level input allow easier integration withOEM systems. ISO-FEET™ mounting platform eliminates chassis-to-chassis groundloops.1 Meg Ohm Isolation maintained between the Signal Ground andPower Supply Ground (eliminates ground loop noise)External Bass Control (EBC) port connects to optional dash-mountableEBC unit, for external bass control.Buffered output stage with 100 ohm output impedance, to drive mul-tiple amplifiers with ease.LSX1 Large Signal Crossover (2-Way) Continuously Variable Low and High Pass Outputs between 30-400Hz HighPass, and 20-200 Hz Low Pass.LSX2 Large Signal Crossover (2-Channel 3-Way, or 4-Channel 2-Way) Dual High Pass Outputs. The front is continuously adjustable on a scale ofeither 30-400 Hz or 600-8000 Hz, depending on the setting of the multi-plier switch. Rear High Pass is continuously variable from 30-400 Hz. LowPass is continuously variable from 20-200Hz.Front and rear low impedance inputs so you can add to an existingfactory stereo system and keep the factory front to rear fader. Phase reversal switch (180˚) for greater flexibility in system integration.

Our one-of-a-kind MTX LSB1, (a.k.a. “the Black Box”) is a dual function,multi-purpose signal and remote turn-on processor. One of its primaryfunctions is to allow you to easily switch between two different subwoo-fer amplifier signal paths, for either sound quality listening or SPL liste-ning. (“LS” refers to Large Signal, or the ability of the device to acceptup to a 10 volt RMS input signal).Note: Unlike the infamous Black Box that tells what happens in aplane crash, the only thing the LBS1 will tell about you is thatyou have superior taste in audio equipment.

Sound Quality ListeningThe low noise (Signal-to-Noise ratio better than 105 dB) attenuator istypically used for the sound quality testing portion of an IASCA competi-tion, or for listening preferences that emphasize sonic reproduction.

SPL ListeningThe SPL setting routes the signal through a high pass filter. This allowsyou to boost a narrow band of frequencies (typically at the “in-car reso-nance” of the system, or the port tuning frequency of a vented system)to play obscenely loud without damaging your woofers.

Turn-on/Turn-off Delay This feature allows you to delay turn-on of amplifiers and turn-off ofsignal processors to prevent transient noise. Or, it can delay turn-on/turn-off of a system’s moving parts. The LSB-1 also features our patented SplitShield™ bottom plate design and the MTX ISO-FEET™ non-conductivemounting feet to prevent chassis-to-chassis ground loops (parent#5,521,792).

The RFL is designed forthe most aggressive sportin car audio, dB DragRacing or other SPLcontests.Every part of the RFLscreams LOUD.Industrial Cast Aluminum Frame-the12-legged frame ensures themost stability, so the speaker staystogether when you’re hittin’ 170 dB.For extra cooling, we’ve added regularly-spaced apertures, to help keep air ventila-tion under the spider, and equalize the airpressure under the spider. The motor structure is bolted together with six 5/16”, 18thread, stainless steel, hex head external bolts. This enginee-ring approach makes sure the speaker can handle the tre-

We made them overhang the 100 oz strontium ferritemagnet, to make room for the aforementioned bolts.Ultra Long Throw Piston Design—a 1.65” tall voice coil. Infact, the 2 ohm uses 22 gauge wire in the voice coil winding. The insulation is rated at a 180 degree Celsius retained bondstrength.Extra Long Pole Piece—it’s way-extended and helps keep thevoice coil centered during this speaker’s enormously longexcursions. Even at full excursion, the entire voice coilremains around the pole piece, for extra heat dissipation. There’s also a clear zinc chromate finish plating on the polepiece. The Congruent edge technology on the gasket/surround helpsthe speaker handle the demands placed on it.Physical structure allows for a 2 1/2” peak-to-peak travel.Thateliminates the possibility of the spider bottoming out.Constructed to handle up to 1500 watts total power.

Black polypropylene cone, with an optimal surface area thatallows more speakers to fit in the vehicle—for more cabinpressurization and higher SPL potential.Frequency response of 50-60Hz—you won’t be playin’ anyYanni through these bad boys.

Quite simply, winners will choose Thunder7000 becausewhen it comes to winning, there’s no limit to how low MTX

will go – and we mean that in the best sense.

WOOF.Thunder7000 subwoofers are like wolves in sheeps’ clo-

thing. They innocently slip into your smallest sealed enclo-sure without taking up a whole lot of trunk space, but turnthem on and they give deep, loud, snarling bass that

threatens to rip your face off.

Hot Isn’t Always Cool.Asymmetrical Linear Drive technology, used throughout

the Thunder series, promises high output with low distor-tion. And these subs are packed with features to help dissi-

pate heat (repeat: “Overheated speakers are NOT ourfriends”). They’ve got a rugged die cast frame, an enor-

mous magnet structure (102 ounces), and a 2.5” high-temperature, 4-layer voice coil (8-layer on the 15”). If you

didn’t know, more copper means better thermalpower handling. (For example, the T7158 has 475 feet of

copper.) All these features add to the cool factor – literally.

EXCLUSIVE! Mad Scientists BreedKiller Spiders!

One of the biggest challenges in spider design is to maxi-mize the linear region of the speaker’s movement. We per-

formed extensive Finite Element Analysis (high-tech tes-ting) on the spider and found that the best design was a“five roll” spider design. We call it Computer Optimized

Progressive Roll spider (COPR for short).

Picture of StrengthTake a good look at this speaker. The gasket and surround

are one piece (we call it Congruent Edge Technology - CET),made of thermal-pressure-formed Ethylene Propylene

Diene Monomer (EPDM). Translation? Extremely durable, with a sleek,

cool look.The unique

radius on thepole piecealso mini-

mizes turbu-lence that

occursduring largeexcursions,

so when youturn the

music WAYup, you

won’t hearthat “heavybreathing”

sound(unless it’syour own).

Why will the winners choose

Thunder 7000?

Superior PerformanceWhen Space is Really Tight.

MTX introduces a clever mix of leading edge technology(including MTX’s Asymmetrical Linear Drive System). These

new subwoofers were designed to play DEEP, LOW, BASS ina variety of enclosures: sealed, vented or bandpass. For

example, the 8” will play in a sealed enclosure as small as.25 cu foot. With 4, 8, or 12 ohm impedance options, the ins-

tallation possibilites are virtually endless.

Extreme Power Handling LevelsOversized magnet structure, a four-layer voice coil and blackKapton voice coil formers keep these subwoofers ready and

eager to play.

Acoustically Stablefor accurate Sonic Reproduction

Black, polyether foam surrounds with paper pulp cone. Goldplated speaker connectors offer secure connections. The

black EPDM gasket makes a tight seal when rear mounted, and a cosmetic nicety when front mounted.

Sleek yet Rugged LooksBlack Spider, with black plated front plate, black plate and

pole piece. Folded window basket is stronger, more durable, and unique in appearance. The thermal formed dustcap fea-

tures an understated embossed MTX logo.

MTX is the ori-ginal inventorof mobileenclosures, and as indus-try leaders, itonly makessense thatwe keepchanging

everything(remember, we hate to

be ordinary). Thunder5000mobile enclosures take the origi-nal concept – easily installed, portable bass for your car – andadd a completely new approachto ensure that these enclo-sures fit in almost everyvehicle on the road today. And each of our new models hasa plexiglas viewing window, for a custom-built enclosureappearance.

Tri-Sub™EnclosureThe T510X3 is a three woofer Tri-Sub trapezoid bass enclosurethat conforms to vehicle seatback angles, making the mostout of available space. The Tri-Sub fits virtually all hatchbacks, and is a perfect fit for the newCamaros and Firebirds. Withtotal power handling of up to1500 watts, it’ll take whateveryou give (and probably ask formore if it could speak).

Single-SubWedgeEnclosuresThe T510 and T512 aresingle-sub wedge enclo-sures with a small sea-led enclosure design, for deep, low bass. 70degree trapezoidal shapemakes the most efficientuse of available space. A4 ohm mono design maximizes the output capability of youramplifiers.

In competition or dailyuse, you want sound reproduc-tion as close as possible to theoriginal recordings.

That’s why Thunder5000 com-ponents are specially designedto enhance the realism of themusic (we’re serious aboutsound, ya know. It’s our motto).

The extended, vented polepiece provides a symmetricalmagnetic field and enableshigher power handling.

Matched crossover compo-nents feature a steep highpass crossover slope with PTCtweeter protection T54S andT55S – 12 dB/octave high passT56S –18dB high pass and 6dBlow pass.

The 1” soft dome tweeterwith neodymium magnetprovides improved frequencyresponse (better sound) with asmall magnet, so it fits in itsspace. And, Ferrofluid keepsthem cool.

A shallow mounting depthon the midrange speakersallows greater installing flexibi-lity, which is really important.

The finest amplifiers deserve to be pairedwith superior quality subwoofers and com-ponent systems. Thunder3000 subwoofersfeature the same Asymmetrical LinearDrive System, common to all ThunderLoudspeakers (the flat progressive spider, combined with the extended, vented polepiece). We’ve added some other touches tomake sure these speakers perform way, way, past your expectations. The Voice Coilis wound on a Black Kapton former forhigh power handling. The strontium ferritemagnet yields a highly efficient speaker(more efficient means better use of youramplifier power).

Designing separate components is one of the more interestingchallenges in today’s Car Audio. They have to be easy to fit eve-rywhere, and they have to provide a sound that is warm, aggres-sive, full of appeal, dynamic. This is the reason why here, at MTX,we studied and developped this new range particularly orientedto the European cars.

New models, a complete new line of 4”, 5” and 6.1/4” separatecomponents.

The Din standard baskets allow these separate components toeasily fit in all the European cars.

The polypropylene cone on the woofer is higly durable, resis-tant to damaging UV rays and improves bass performances.

The woofer magnet is made of Barium Ferrite, ensuring themaximum energy transfer.

The Capton voice coil former provides high efficiency andextraordinary power handling.

The 3/4” dome tweeter (1/2” on the 4”) offers the smoothesthigh frequency response (those highs will come through crystalclear).

The tweeter magnet is made of neodymium, one of thestrongest materials, for superior sensitivity. And Ferrofluid keepsthe tweeter cool.

A very professional 12dB/octave crossover box is providedwith all the models.

The umbeatable price/quality ratio makes these new separatecomponents affordable, yet suited for even high end applications.

A coaxial is very often perceived as a basic speaker. Here, at MTX,we have a different opinion. An American coax has to be different, has to be designed and engineered respecting the same conceptsof all the other products. Even when it is specially built in anEuropean Din standard basket, to allow an easy fit everywhere. And your music will be full, clear and more accurate.
