Wait for Silence
If the class is very rowdy and you are finding it hard to gain control, stand up front in silence. Write on the board Time in at Lunch and write tally marks or numbers until the class is silent. They will soon pick up on what you are doing. Give them a chance to work off the minutes if they are working well.
Seating Plan
Draw up the seating plan when you get in the room then when you are calling the roll fill in their names. You can then easily refer to them by name for redirection or answering questions and will have them guessing as to how you can remember all their names so quickly!
1, 2, 3 Rule
Verbal Warning - Address the student’s behaviour first.
Outline your expectations for their behaviour and what the disciplinary actions will be.
1st Warning - student gets their name on the board.
2nd Warning - student gets a mark on their name and they will have timeout or 5 minutes in at lunchtime.
3rd Warning - student is removed from the activity or will have 10 minutes in at lunchtime

Teacher for a Day
Students are to retell this Emoji story about your weekend in words. They are to use sequencing language (After, afterwards, firstly, secondly, lastly, finally), text connectives, past tense and summary skills.
Once they have written out your weekend in words you can then show them your version of the weekend. If they have time you can get them to write out or text their weekend in
emojis for a partner to decipher.

Draw 4 quadrants on a page. Using cardinal language instruct them to draw by following your directions. For example- In the NE quadrant in the SW corner draw a star. In the SW quadrant, go NNW and write your age/initials/number of people in your family. In the SE quadrant write the initials of a person/an object that is WSW of you. Draw a sun ESE in the NW quadrant.
Note- As you go, draw it yourself to compare with students at the end.

For Maths Boggle, write up a series of numbers and students are challenged to come up with as many sums to reach their given target. Students can only use numbers adjoining in a chain and you can use as many numbers as you like. For example- With these numbers find an answer closest to 500 or 1 000. You can change the numbers to suit their topic such as decimals, fractions, money etc.
Draw an x and y-axis on grid paper with 4 quadrants scaling from -5 to 5. Draw in 7 ships- 2 boats with 2 spots, 2 boats with 3 spots, 2 boats with 4 spots, 1 boat with 5 spots. In pairs, students will call out random coordinates to try and sink their partner’s ship. They must record the coordinates they have called out as well as the when their ship gets ‘hit’.

Trace around your hand with a black marker. With a ruler and a coloured pencil draw a straight line horizontally on the outer side of the hand and a curved line inside the hand so that the lines join up. Do this continually down the page. Next, write inspirational quotes, song lyrics or any message between the lines.

Teacher for a Day - High School Edition
Draw a picture of your head then fill it with all the things that are going on in it right now.
Make a list of alphabetical advice.
Give a student a word and the class has to guess what it is by asking strategic questions. The students can only answer Yes and No. The class should ask questions like- Can you eat it? Is it alive? Does it move? Can we use it? Is it hard? Is it a person? Is it an animal?
