Course Report Institutional training for redeployed personnel (LIA) GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA REGIONAL TRAINING INSTITUTE, CENTRAL REGION NAGPUR A Course Report On ‘INSTITUTIONAL TRAINING FOR REDEPLOYED PERSONNEL (LIBRARY INFORMATION ASSISTANTS) OF CENTRAL REGION AND SOUTHERN REGION, GSI’ The Regional Training Institute, Geological Survey of India, Central Region, Nagpur conducted a two-week long F.S. 2016-17 approved training programme entitled ‘Institutional training for redeployed personnel (Library Information Assistant) of CR and SR, GSI’ from 22 nd November,2016 to 2 nd December, 2016 at Nagpur. All the 23 officials who were nominated by GSITI, Hyderabad had attended the training. The course aims to re-orient the redeployed officials from various backgrounds to the functional requirements of the new stream i.e. Library Information and empowering the officials to discharge their duties as per the functional requirements of GSI Library with required skills in Library Information System. The programme was inaugurated on 22 nd November at RTI, CR lecture hall by Shri N. Kutumba Rao, Additional Director General and HoD, CR in the presence of Shri R.C. Shukla, DDG & RMH-III, CR, Shri Anand Agasty, Director, Publication, Guest faculties from GSI and IBM, Nagpur and Shri K.K. Naik, Director and Shri S.H. Wankhade, Sr. Geologist, RTI, CR, Nagpur. Shri K.K. Naik conducted the inaugural proceeding and briefed the course content and explained the aim and objective of the course and the circumstances under which this training is being conducted and requested the trainees to take the programme seriously so that the GSI libraries can be strengthened in future and this training will be proved fruitful. In his inaugural address, Shri N.K. Rao, HOD, CR advised the trainees to be attentive and careful during the training programme so that they can take up the new responsibility independently and upgrade themselves in the prevailing scenario and can contribute effectively to the development of the department. He also briefed the importance of Library Information Assistant to run a library. Shri A. Agasty, Director emphasised the importance of such training and informed that there are shortages of trained personnel in GSI libraries particularly in the present day requirement of digitisation of GSI reports by Mission-III. All the dignitaries wished the trainee officials best and requested them to make use & enjoy every opportunity of this training. The course schedule was formulated in consultation with the guest facilitators and every effort was made to make it GSI oriented. The lesson plan thus finalized had been proved to be very meaningful. At the beginning, the course started with basic lecture on ‘Introduction to Library Information Systems’ by Mrs. D.H. Vairagade, Assistant Library & Information Officer, IBM, Nagpur and subsequently topics on various aspects of Library science as well as the functional requirements of the libraries were covered by the GSI facilitators and guest facilitators. At the end of every lecture session, an evaluation exercise was conducted. The trainees also had the opportunity to visit the Central Library of Indian Bureau of Mines, Nagpur where they had a live demonstration of the LIBSYS software as well as the various functions of Library of a typical Government department. The evaluation of the feedback of trainee officials indicated that the course was immensely beneficial and had given them an opportunity to see the various facets of library sciences. They were very happy by the deliberations of the facilitators and the way the programme was conducted. The overall feedback from the participants was excellent with few suggestions such as the training may be conducted for a longer duration and be followed by refresher course. The valedictory function of the course was held on 02.12.2016. Shri N.Kutumba Rao, ADG & HOD, CR expressed his satisfaction about the way the course was conducted and expressed his pleasure on the completion of the training and encouraged the participants make use of the knowledge whenever and wherever they get the opportunity. A Course Report

On ‘INSTITUTIONAL TRAINING FOR REDEPLOYED PERSONNEL (LIBRARY

INFORMATION ASSISTANTS) OF CENTRAL REGION AND SOUTHERN REGION, GSI’

The Regional Training Institute, Geological Survey of India, Central Region, Nagpur conducted a two-week long

F.S. 2016-17 approved training programme entitled ‘Institutional training for redeployed personnel (Library

Shri Rao handed over the certificates to the trainee officials and also thanked all the trainee officials & facilitators for

making the programme a grand success. The function came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri S.H.

Wankhade, senior Geologist,RTI,Nagpur.
