Introduction

“ My scribe Ankh af na Khonsu the priest of the princes shall not in one letter change this book; but lest there be

folly, he shall comment thereupon by the wisdom of Ra Hoor Khuit.”- the Book of the Law, Chapter 1, verse 36

When I first read these words late in 1982 I had no idea that they referred to me at all. My first

look at the Book of the Law certainly left some impression on me but I saw nothing special in it,

and remarked in my diary that it was a curious book that I would find time to look at more

closely- sometime. Even when I found the key and was unraveling all of the secrets concealed in

the Book of the Law I didn’t consider a comment on its contents to be something that would fall

to me to write. But, as I progressed in my study, I realized that simply because I was the first to

possess and to study the secrets of the Book of the Law, that any explanation of my work would

amount to this very comment that the prophet of Nu is charged with writing.

I held off on attempting to explain my key until I had fully developed all that it made possible for

me to decipher, studying Θελημα and the Book of the Law for 16 years before making my key to

the order & Value of the English Alphabet available publicly, although I have been giving the

key to my private students for a long while. The interest that my first publication of the keyaroused eventually inspired me to begin writing this comment in order to fully explain my work

and its practical applications for Thelemites everywhere.

Anyone that claims to have discovered the key to the order & value of the English Alphabet is

making a big claim that polarizes Thelemites everywhere, as this person is also claiming to be

“the child of the beast” and “the one chosen”. This alone arouses a deal of well deserved

suspicion and mistrust in most Thelemites and invokes the most rigorous scrutiny and criticism-

and this is as it should be. I have long considered the question of being some sort of heir to

Crowley’s aeonic work, to being “the chosen one”. The Book of the Law says that regardless of

the privileged position spiritually, that the child is not absolved of material responsibility, nor are

the trials and tests of life assuaged for him. The fitness of this prophet of the gods to do their willon earth is proved only by the success of his work. The secrets of the Book of the Law are not

given to the child of the beast; he must work for them just as all other students must apply

themselves to learn them. This makes my comment on the verses of the Book of the Law the

product of a long considered process.

Initially I thought that everyone that read the Book of the Law saw the same solution to the key

puzzle that I did, after all, it seemed ridiculously simple in the end. I thought that everyone had

the correct order & value of the English Alphabet. A bit of research soon proved that (in 1983)

no one had yet discovered the key, and literature on the English Qabalah was non-existent. In the

intervening years there have been some attempts to solve this puzzle but none of them can fulfill

the conditions laid out in the Book of the Law by Ra Hoor Khuit to mark the true key that givesthe correct order & value of the English Alphabet and that allows for the correct interpretation of

the cipher formula in the Second Chapter. Right from the beginning, the solution that I found on

page 16 of the Third Chapter of the Book of the Law gave me a complete and comprehensive

qabalah of Θελημα and a practical method of operation that I could begin using straight away.

Finally I feel that I have developed my understanding of the key, of Θελημα, and of the Book of

the Law and its author, to make a significant statement about these holy verses. I hope that the

key that I found in the Book of the Law is a useful tool for the other Thelemites who, like

myself, are pursuing the path of the wise to their own Summum Bonum.
