A chairde,
Tá súil agam go bhfuil sibh uilig slán sábháilte sa bhaile. I hope that you are all keeping well at this time.
Tuigim go hiomlán go bhfuil chuile sheans nach mbeidh daoine in ann billeoga a phriondáil go héasca faoi láthair. Tá na billeoga sa bhfillteán seo curtha le chéile mar threor agus tacaíocht do thuistí agus do pháistí. Sheets in this folder have been put together as a guide/ suggestions for parents and children at this time. It may understandably not be possible to print out pages at home. Work can be completed in copies / pages if printing is not an option.
Moltar daoibh leas a bhaint as an bhfillteán seo mar ‘biachlár’ in áit ‘oideas’.
Work in this folder is to be treated as a ‘menu’ to dip in and out of and not as a ‘prescription’.

Learning Outcome- On this page we will be learning about using different objects to
measure items. (concept of centimetres / using ruler/ measuring tape used after children
explore measuring items using paper clips, pens etc. to measure items.
On this page children measure items found around the house using different objects to
measure each item. e.g. paper clip , a topper, a stamp etc. This is important to do before
moving on to standard units of measure such as using a ruler / measuring tape etc.
Getting started : Measuring the pencil. Choose 3 different objects to measure the pencil e.g. a
stamp, a paper clip, a topper. Continue measuring each of the items below using 3 different
objects to measure each time.

Learning Outcome: Adding big numbers
Remember to use your strategies
1. Choose the largest number and count on 2. Remember “friend facts” 2+3 is the same as 3+2 (they just swap places) 3. Remember “doubles” e.g. 2+2 , 3+3 4. Remember “near doubles” e.g. 2+3 (doubles 2+2 plus 1) 5. Remember +0 . Number remains same e.g. 5 +0 = 5, 6+0 = 6 etc. 6. Find “story of 10” e.g. 2+8 +1 (two and eight is ten and then add on two
giving us twelve)
Learning Outcome : On this page we will be learning about
-
Learning Outcome : Learn about a unit of measure called cm / centimetres
We use ‘centimetres’ to measure items as a standard unit of measure recognised throughout
the world.
Can you think of some people that need to measure things at work ?
It is important that a carpenter measures things carefully otherwise the table / chair he is
making may be too big and not fit in the space.
Can you add to this list? _____________________________________________

½ / half / leath Can you draw your own design using halves. It can be a flower, a building ,
a car etc. (anything that shows halves)
-

Remember your strategies / tips to help with tables
1. Choose the biggest number and count on 2. Find the story of 10 and count on 3. Remember “ friend facts” 2+3 is the same as 3+2
(the numbers just swap places!)
4. Adding 0 to any number ? Number remains the same e.g. 5+0 = 5 5. Remember doubles e.g. 2+2, 3+3, 4+4 6. Remember near doubles 2+3 (if we know 2+2 = 4 then 2+3 is made
easier…we just add on one giving us 5 !)
