Demonstrate a knowledge of building and safety code requirements. The Building Construction Program is a four year program that begins with Grade 9 instruction. Building Construction Program

Students in the Building Construction Program will be instructed in the use of a wide variety of techniques associated with the major areas of the building construction industry, in Carpentry, Woodworking, Concrete and Drywall.Ongoing safety practices in the proper use and safe operation of tools and equipment used in the industry is emphasized.

Course Outline

Students will study the following areas:

• Introduction to Industry Technology and the Building Construction trade

• Trade related Mathematics: Measurement and Conversions

• Introduction to Stationary Power Tools• Safe Operation of Tools and Tool Safety Test• Introduction to Drafting and Surveying• Framing and Concrete Forms• Cabinet Assembly Techniques• Basic Wood Finishing Techniques• Boarding and Drywall Taping• Interior/Exterior Finishes• Roof Framing• Stairs and Ramp Construction Methods

Students will also have the opportunity totake part in:

• WHMIS• Safety in the workplace• Work Experience

Graduates of the Building Construction Program are well prepared to continue their studies at a post-secondary technical college, to enter an apprenticeship program, or to compete for jobs in the construction trade.
