MUSIC AT EASTERN WASHINGTON COLLEGE

Eastern Washington College of Education offers a well ­rounded curriculum in applied music, music theory and music ed­ucation. Expert instruction is available for nominal fees in piano, voice, violin, organ and wind instruments. All types of ensemble groups provide rich experience for the serious student in vocal and instrumental performance.

Organized in 1934 by the present director, William Lloyd Row les, the A Cappello Choir has long maintained an enviable reputation. Its concerts on tour and for dinner meetings and con­ventions throughout the state have merited enthusiastic praise. The spring tour of the choir, A pr il 20-25, will take the group to Wilbur, Grand Coulee, Coulee Dam, Omak, O kanogan, Cash­mere, W enatchee, Yakima, Selah, Toppenish, Sunnyside, Prosser, Pasco and Sprag ue.

MUSIC AT EASTERN WASHINGTON COLLEGE

Since 1937, with the exception of t he war yea rs, the d ivi­sion of music has developed superior ba nds. The present organ­ization has achieved remarkab ly fi ne results since its inaugura­tion last September through the dyna mic leadership of the d irect­or, Benedict T. Ha llgrimson. Many outstand ing high school gradu­ates and ret urned veterans, including scholarship w inners, are members of the band.

Music scholarsh ips, entitling winners to free private weekl y lessons with facu lty members, have been he ld by seventeen stu­dents duri ng the cu rrent year . Automatic eligibility for a scholar­ship is effected th rough w inning the highest ra ting in a reg iona l competition-festival. Similar ach ievement in a district festival is important in making a bid for this honor. Persona l auditions for interested candidates may be ar ranged at any t ime by appoint­ment w ith the head of the division of music, Professor W iiiiam Lloyd Rowles.
